Our Year 11 Innovations Team presented Analyse with her gift card, as she was caught using the Cash for

Cans Cage.

Ms Horan announced information about her Thursday Interest Dance Group. We are hoping to have our stu-

dents participate in this years School Spectacular, so any dancers should see Ms Horan or Mr Muscio about

how you can audition, even if you are not able to commit to the Thursday Group.

We said goodbye to our visitors from Shang-Hai China, and although they were only with us for three days, they developed a strong connection with our students. They all received a special gift that they had bought form China with them.

Goodbye to our Chinese visitors!

To encourage positive friendships, the SRC organised for roses to be sold for Valentine’s Day. The students

loved both giving and receiving their roses to their friends.

❤ ️Happy Valentine’s Day ❤ ️

The library each year celebrates Valentine’s Day by having some sort of display, encouraging students to

read. Books were wrapped in brown paper so the students would borrow them without knowing what book it

was. So the catch phrase is ‘Have a blind date with a book’.

Windsor High School has been very involved in the Hawkesbury Primary School Leadership Camp. During the two days of the camp, our School Captains created and delivered public speaking workshops, which were in-teresting and dynamic. The feedback from the students and the teachers from the Primary Schools was out-standing. We are exceptionally proud! What made the sessions even more special was when the School Cap-tains ran their Public Speaking workshop for the student leaders of Cattai Public School as our School Captain

Ameysha, was an ex Cattai Public School student.

During the evening our Year 10 leaders worked with leaders from Colo HS, Richmond HS and Hawkesbury HS to design and run activities for the Year 6 students attending the Hawkesbury Primary School Leadership Camp. The feedback from this session was also outstanding. It is great we can offer so many opportunities for

our students to develop and practice their leadership expertise.

Engaging lessons have been happening in the classrooms. Year 9 made pizza on a scone base and Year 8

made party sausage rolls with vegetables.

We are starting to prepare for this years 50th Anniversary Celebration that will be occurring on Saturday 25 th May 2019. Students, both past and present, will be able to purchase a brick with their name on it to commem-

orate the event. Please see the flyer later in this newsletter.

We are looking forward to seeing all our students at the swimming carnival this week.

SRC News

2019 has raced off to a flying start for the members of the Student Representative Council (SRC). Congratula-tions to the newly elected members of the SRC. After the recent SRC elections, the current and new SRC members have been busy organising and participating in a number of school initiatives. These have included the ever-popular Valentine’s Day fundraiser, where students have been busy organising and delivering roses.

The SRC have registered to participate in Clean Up Australia Day activities on Friday 1st March. It is planned

that students will aim to clean and enhance particular areas of the school with a significant focus on the Junior

Quad and Back Oval. We hope you can get behind this wonderful initiative and assist us in keeping our school

environment clean and tidy. Other events to look forward to in Term 1 include: The Spider Drink Stall fundrais-

ing drive with all proceeds going towards the purchase of outdoor furniture in the Senior Quad.

Science and Agriculture

Well done to Mrs Ruis and the Show Team for their successful outings with the school’s goats at two regional shows so far this year.

Once again, Windsor High Show Team has won many categories with both goats and handlers.

The faculty welcomes Mrs Bakoru as a full time Science teacher. We are delighted to have her working with us for 2019. We have started two new courses this year- Earth and Environmental Studies in Year 11, being taught by Miss King and Marine Studies for Stage Five with classes in both Year 9 and 10 being run by Mr Philp.

Excursions have already been planned for Year 11 Earth and Environmental Studies on Monday 11 th

March and for Year 11 Biology on 13th March. Both groups will spend the day at Longneck Lagoon Field

Studies Centre completing compulsory practical components of their respective courses. The work done on

each of these excursions will form the basis for Assessment Tasks and as such it is very important for

these students.

We are also planning to enter the “Science and Engineering Challenge” again this year. The students who participated last year are

already planning their teams. This is a Stage 5 competition, so some of the new Year 9 students will be able to join the ‘old hands’ in

Year 10. Unfortunately we are limited in the number of students we can enter, so students will need to keep checking for the an-

nouncement.

We are waiting for our new notice board to be attached in the main quad area. This will be where we will post information about up-

coming events for students.

We have recently received the VALID Test results from the tests that Year 8 2018 completed last November. Pleasingly, Windsor students continue to improve and there are some outstanding indi-vidual results. Individual letters have arrived and the Year 9 students will be given their result letters to take home as soon as possible.

Classes are well entrenched with their learning in Science- Year 7 are learning to use equipment and

work safely in the labs, Year 8 studying Energy. 8H and 8T have spent some time building model

roller coasters and we will have some of these on display for open night. Year 9 are currently learning about Energy Transfers:

Wave, Sound and Light and Year 10 have started investigating Human Coordination and Control Systems and The Immune System.

The Year 11 Biology and the Earth and Environmental Science Classes have been doing introductory work in their courses and are

settling into the Senior Science routines well. Year 12 Investigating Science and Biology continue to power through the HSC cours-

es.

Students are reminded that they need to provide themselves with a separate book which is used only for their Sci-

ence notes – combined or “5 subject” books are not suitable. Due to the nature of the work they will do in Science, it

is also very important that books are covered in plastic to protect them. Mrs Greenhalgh will be having some “book

covering” working lunches for those students who cannot plastic cover their books, where they will be helped to

cover Science books. If a fancy plastic cover is preferred, they should bring in their own

contact.

A reminder to all Year 7 to 10 students to check their homework grids and make their selections for home-work tasks. The first task is due by Friday Night of Week Four – a deadline that is fast approaching. We have designed the grid with a variety of tasks to choose from, many being open ended so that all students can find several that will allow them to use their particular skills or pursue their interests.. There is always a “student choice” option as well. Happy Homeworking. Looking forward to a wonderful and productive year in Science.

Mrs Greenhalgh.
