Grade 4 Newsletter CURRICULUM Week 3 TERM 1 What are we learning this week? LITERACY FOCUS: During A sentence a Day we are focusing on adjectives. Our writ- ing genre is persuasive texts. Our question this week will be “Convince your classmates to vote you in as Class President”. NUMERACY FOCUS: Measurement and Geometry, with a focus on measurement. Number and place value, with a focus on Money. Maths Masters is also running weekly. February 16th—February 20th Dates to remember: 17th February Pancake Day—8:20am 23rd February: You tell us night. 5th March : School Photos Pakenopoly What is it? This term our whole school top- ic is Pakenopoly. Students have to form their own business, de- cide on what their business is going to sell and how they will make a profit. What to bring Students are only allowed to bring in old or recycled items. For example students can bring in old T-shirts, re-used beads, cardboard from cereal boxes, or recycled paper. They cannot bring in new things nor can they purchase items for their business. Spelling We have just finished conduct- ing our Single Word Spelling Tests. Students will be grouped and have their spelling words sent out soon based upon the results of these tests. Please practice with your child regularly to en- sure steady growth in their spelling abilities. Guess the Baby: This term we would like to run a ’guess that baby’ competition. We are asking all students in Grade 4 to bring in a picture of themselves when they were a baby or a tod- dler. We will then have a competi- tion to see if anyone is able to cor- rectly match the toddlers to the students. We are asking all students to please bring in a picture of them- selves for this event. We will pho- to copy all pictures and return the originals. Fruit Please remember to pack some fresh fruit for your child as we have fruit time every day. Fruit needs to be nude fruit and cannot be fruit substi- tutes such as roll ups or fruit jelly. No nuts please as we have students with severe nut allergies in our grade. Pakenopoly What is it?

Arriving at school on

time:

Just a reminder to parents that students

should be at school by 8:45am. Students

arrive early are not supervised as there are

no teachers on duty at this time. Arrange-

ments can be made at OSHC if your child

needs to be dropped off outside of school

hours.
