End of Term EventsIt is hard to believe we only have one more week left for Term 3 and a busy week it is shaping up to be! This Friday evening we have the Stage 3 Disco – an event the students are always eager to participate in. Next week we have the students’ grandparents visiting on Tuesday morning. We are very excited that the invitation has been extended to the grandparents of our Year 5 & 6 classes this year. Then on Friday 20 September, the last day of term, we have our annual Fun Athletics Carnival for Preschool – Year 4. I would like to thank the Parents & Friends Association for their support with each of these events. The volunteers’ efforts are very much appreciated.

Chapel NewsThank you to all of the students and families who were involved in the Stage 1 Chapel Service last Sunday. It was a fantastic service that was enjoyed by all. A special thank you to the Stage 1 teachers who made the service extra creative by working hard with their classes to produce the music, drama and reflective psalm reading. The Early Learning Centre will be taking the lead role for our final Chapel. They will be retelling to us the Christmas story. This will on 24 November at the Mahers Lane Chapel.

News From 3GPoetry is an amazing way to tell a story, express a range of emotions or just make you laugh. During recent literacy sessions our hardworking class has been writing poems in a range of poetic styles. We have been investigating simile and metaphor and using these to improve our ability to create interesting writing. We have also been preparing for the upcoming ‘Grandparent’s Day’ by generating poems about these special members of our families. We plan to share these with Grandparents during their visit. Outlined below is a sample of the amazing work produced by Year 3.
GrandparentsMy grandparents love me they are the bestGrandma spends so much time with me, she hardly ever rests.

During our integrated studies we have been investigating our communities and finding out more about what is on offer and what we value. Parents have been a great support to students as they gather information, explore their community and interview community members. Students will collate their information at school and create a range of presentations to showcase their understanding of this topic.
Imogen ParryFundraising for a Cure
On an assembly earlier this term Imogen Parry bravely let Mrs Chandler cut her hair in front of a very excited group of children. Imogen donated her hair to an organisation called “Beautiful Lengths” that makes real hair wigs for women who have cancer. We are sure they would have been very happy to receive Imogen’s beautiful locks.Imogen raised over $1600 for ovarian cancer research by door knocking in her neighbourhood and collecting donations at the Sunshine Avenue Campus.Congratulations Imogen for doing such a wonderful thing for a very important cause.
This term has seen the Possums and Koalas classes starting to get ready for their transition to Kindergarten next year. The children have done a great job adapting to the more structured group activities that have been happening each morning this term. This will continue next term and we will be introducing the Book Bag program (more detailed information will be coming home soon.)Term 4 will see us spending some transition sessions over in the Kindergarten classrooms and meeting the Kindergarten teachers for next year. We will also be holding an information evening explaining everything you need to know about your child’s first year at school.
Toy Catalogue FundraiserThank you to the parents who have supported our toy catalogue fundraiser by ordering some fantastic educational and fun toys for their children for Christmas. If you would still like to place an order please have your order form to me or drop off at the Admin office by the end of this term. Thank you for your support with this fundraiser - we were able to purchase $600 worth of fantastic equipment for the Early Learning Centre last year.
Preschool JunkWe are after your junk. Before you throw out your rubbish have a think if we could use it to be creative in the Preschool. We are after*Wood off-cuts (soft wood with no chemicals)*Empty boxes of all sizes (the children love little tiny boxes and really big boxes)*Natural Stuff - seedpods, driftwood, shells, *Bottletops of all shapes, sizes and colours
Spare ClothesWe are running very low on our spare clothes at Preschool. If you have any at home please send them back in as soon as possible. If you would like to donate any spare clothes we are short on underpants (boys and girls), shorts and school shirts.
Children enrolled in Preschool this year are automatically enrolled in Kindergarten for 2014 (unless they are doing another year in Preschool). Please note, that if you are not intending to continue at Lindisfarne next year a full term’s notice (in writing) is required. Withdrawal forms are available from the office.
Last week Old MacDonald’s Farm came to visit Kindergarten. It was a wonderful learning experience where the children were able to pat, feed and interact with the farm animals. Farmer Phil told us all about the important role farm animals play and explained the many tasks a farmer has to do to take care of them. We learnt that goats can produce milk, which is great for making cheese and even body products for humans and that pigs have the intelligence of a five year old child.

Year 5 Lake Ainsworth CampLake Ainsworth Recount by Annabelle Layt On 2nd September 2013 year 5 were going to camp! At 10:15am we left for Lake Ainsworth. We arrived at 11:35am. When we arrived we met our instructors. We had lunch and went to our first activity. We went for a quick tour and then headed to the fire pits. We also had to collect a damper stick so we could cook the damper. It was delicious, when you pulled the damper off the stick there was a hole which you could fill with maple syrup!!! We then went to the pool which was so fun!We then went back and had our showers. After dinner we had night games that were quite crazy! My favourite game was Teachers Revenge, the teachers got to hit students with noodles!
In the morning our first activity was rock climbing. We had to help each other put our harnesses on as well as holding them up on the wall. You needed to have 4 people on your team. 1 person was on the wall using a 3 lock carabiner and the other 3 were connected to a rope with 1 lock carabiner. The people connected to the rope had to make sure the rope was tight and not
!
slack. The person on the wall had to trust their group a lot because if they fell it would be up to the other 3 people to hold them. After lunch we had raft building! It was SOOO much fun. We created a sturdy raft but we had to re tie some of the knots. Then we had a race back to shore, we also had to dismantle the raft. The girls won by 6 seconds! Our last activity was BMX riding. It was ok but it took a while to sort out the bikes because we had to check the seats, make sure the brakes were working and and that the tyres were pumped up. We then practised riding in a single file and on the left. We then rode around Lennox Head and went back for lunch. Then we hopped on the bus and went back to the school. Overall Lake Ainsworth was the best camp yet! My favourite activity was raft building. Our instructor was really nice and my cabin was great! I'm looking forward to next year/s camp!

Lake Ainsworth Recount by Jade Reid and Brooke SwindellsOn 2nd September, Year Five and teachers travelled to Lennox Heads. There, we went to Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre to go for a three day camp. We were bound to complete four activities; BMX bike riding, raft building, cook out and rock climbing. When we arrived at Lake Ainsworth we were put in cabins which could fit up to twelve people. We had a quick lunch which was chicken salad wraps and then we were off to our first activity, which was BMX bike rinding. Our instructor’s name was Chris. He showed us around the site then got our bikes and helmets. When we got our bikes we had to test the chain, brakes, wheels and we went for a quick test drive. At first we rode around the centre. Then we were lucky enough to ride along the main road up to Lennox Headland. After we made our way back, we had showers, then ate our dinner which was spaghetti bolognese. Each night we had night games. That night it was Dan's turn and we played lots of fun games. On Tuesday we woke up at 7:00am and got dressed in suitable clothes for raft building. For breakfast we had eggs on toast which was alright. After breakfast we went to raft building down at the lake. We had to construct a raft using two canoes, up to six pieces of PVC pipe and lots of rope. After testing the rafts the girls raced the boys around the buoy and it ended up in a tie. For lunch it was steak and salad sandwiches. 5H's next activity was cookout, which included finding firewood in the bush to cook our damper and marshmallows. We made our way back for showers and dinner which was roast chicken and vegetables and 5H got to serve. It was Nigel's turn for night games. He chose to do “The Mini Olympics”. Night games went for about an hour and after that we went to sleep in our cabins. On day three, it was once again 5H’s turn to serve and breakfast was pancakes and yoghurt. Our last activity was rock climbing, which was in the stadium where we did night games. We all got two goes on two different walls. After our first go we stopped for
fruit and a game of soccer. When we finished Chris sat us down to talk about how well behaved we had been across the three days. Next was lunch where we had ham and salad sandwiches, then we took the luggage across to spot X where we loaded the bus and left.Overall, it was a fantastic camp! The food was great and so were the activities. Our favourite activity was raft building because we got to construct our rafts as well as race them. Over the last few days we have all had a great time and we would love to go back!
Year 6 Melbourne ExcursionThe fantastic Year 6 Melbourne Excursion was held in Week 6. 71 students and 6 teachers travelled south on August 26 and spent four days exploring a variety of places including the MCG, Eureka Skydeck, Sovereign Hill, The Melbourne Museum, the Chinese Museum and the Melbourne Zoo. It was a truly remarkable experience for all the students and I would like to compliment them all for their consistent display of exemplary behaviour whilst they were away. Take a look at the photos and recount in this edition of the newsletter and don't forget to check out our class blogs for further information about the trip.

Melbourne Excursion Recount by GraceYou could feel the excitement and a hint of nervousness in the air on the 26th of August as Year 6 boarded the plane ready for our incredible trip to Melbourne. After we got off the plane we went to the MCG and the National Sports Museum which was really fun and a great experience. We went to our accommodation, had dinner and went to the Eureka Skydeck. The view was amazing as you could see all of Melbourne with its l ights on which was breathtaking. Then on the second day we went to Old Melbourne Gaol and saw the gate Ned Kelly passed
through on the way to his execution. We also went to Fitzroy Gardens to fill in time. Then it was off to the Melbourne Zoo. We saw quite a variety of animals including elephants, lions, meerkats and tigers just to name a few. This was really fun because we could go with our friends. Then we went to the Melbourne Museum and learnt about Melbourne's history, and after that we went to the Chinese Museum. These were really interesting things to do because we were learning all the time. We had a quick visit to Federation Square before going to our hostel to go to bed. Our third day we were up bright and early to go to Sovereign Hill. We went to the Gold Museum before going to Sovereign hill. When we got there we watched gold being purified and went into a mine.Everything was set up to look like a mining town in the 1850's. We had a look around then went panning for gold. Some people were lucky enough to find some! We went and learnt about life in the Gold Rush. It was possibly the best part of Melbourne. We also went to the best lolly shop in the world!! We hopped onto the bus and drove back to our hostel. We were exhausted! On our fourth and final day we went to the Queen Victoria Markets and caught a tram to Docklands. Riding a tram was so much fun! We played around for a bit and then went to the airport to go home. Melbourne was the best camp ever and something that we won't be forgetting in a hurry.
