Future Library Services

Library services play a unique and valued role in

our society, but in the last five years use has

slumped: loans have almost halved and fewer

than one in five Essex residents use libraries. The

current service needs to change to fit the way

we live now and in the future.

We want more people to access library services

online and to have fewer, better libraries –

including more community-run libraries. We are

responding to what Essex people have told us, to

shape a service that’s modern, focused and fit

for the way we live.

Information drop-in sessions are being held at

every library – see details online or in your library.

Get involved. Have your say on our plans for

future library services. Find out more and

Parent4Parent Parent4 Parent is an Uttlesford based parent and

carer support group for those whose children (0-25) have social communication difficulties (with or

without any diagnosis) or who experience difficulties coping with interaction and the social world.

We aim to address the isolation that such parents and carers often feel, over a welcoming tea or coffee.

We share experiences and swap tips. Visiting experts come to talk with us about different kins of needs

and how to help. The group meets on the SECOND Friday of every month (term-time) from 10-12 at Dunmow Youth

Centre (free parking usually available). You are free to simply turn up or you can email

[email protected] (or phone 03330 138080 and leave a message for Julie Chase) to let us know you

are interested. You are welcome to bring a friend or relative.

You don’t have to live in Uttlesford to come along!

Offspringers is performing ‘Wonderland High’ at the Cramphorn Theatre in

Chelmsford 12th-16th March 2019 – 7:30pm, Saturday matinee 2:30pm. The first day in a new school can be difficult but for Arthur Bloom, it may prove impossible.

Newly relocated from Kansas City, Arthur discovers that Wonderland High is not your ordinary high school. Thrown into a school where croquet is bigger than football, Arthur finds that being “cool” is the only rule... and even eating lunch in the cafetorium is an ordeal. As he makes new friends (and a couple of enemies), Arthur learns to stand up for himself and helps others learn

the importance of self-reliance and commitment to ones’ principles and passions. Filled with an assortment of characters that are based on Lewis Carroll's creations like Principal Cheshire (who is often heard, but not seen); zany Matt Adder; April May (who had her hair done

in March); Dora Mouskowitz (who can barely stay awake); Lily, Rose, Daisy and Violet (the Garden Glees – an all-girls a capella group); and Alice (of course!).

This is a British Premier of the musical and is great fun, performed by some very talented young people aged 7-18.

‘High School Musical’ meets ‘Alice in Wonderland’ – you’re bound to have an enjoyable time (and my son’s playing Arthur so an extra plug from me!).

Tickets are on sale now – www. www.chelmsford.gov.uk/theatres/whats-on/musicals/wonderland-high/ or call 01245 606505

Mother’s Day pop-up café, Sunday 31st March, 2-4pm We will be holding our third Mother’s Day pop-up café at Great Easton Village Hall on Mother’s Day itself (Sunday 31st March). We will be serving a selection of cakes, cream teas, hot refreshments and Prosecco. Everyone welcome to bring their Mum, Grandma, Auntie, Godmother or special lady!

Anyone got one of these going spare? We are looking to reorganize the second hand uniform available in the school foyer. Does anyone have one of these Ikea shelves they no longer need that we can repurpose? Don’t forget we have a good selection of second hand items available for 50p each.

4th February 2019

What’s going on this week?

British tennis player, Andy Murray has been beaten in what might have been his last ever match. He lost in five sets to Roberto Bautista Agut in the Australian Open first round. Speaking about the match, Murray said "If this was my last match, it was an amazing way to end. I gave everything I had - it wasn't enough tonight." Murray had hoped to carry on playing until this year's Wimbledon, but after struggling to recover from hip surgery he said he may not be able to play through the pain and would have to stop sooner. Andy has won 45 titles during his career.

Things to talk about at home… How do you think Andy Murray might be feeling knowing that he may have played his last ever

major tennis match? Can you think of other times when ‘giving up’ may be the right thing to do? What kinds of things do you think he might decide to do next?

Please note any interesting thoughts or comments here…
