Wednesday 16 th May, 2018 Term 2– Week 3 1 Welcome to our Week 3 newsletter. This week we welcomed several new students and their families to our Prestons family. As our school continues to grow I am very proud of the way our students are working and playing together in an inclusive school environment. Well done to our students for making our school such a friendly and happy place that is accepting of everyone. We have a very busy week at Prestons with our students in Year 3 and 5 sitting the NAPLAN tests this week. I would like to take this opportunity to send a special message to all of our Year 3 and Year 5 students: Dear Prestons Legends, This week you are sitting the NAPLAN tests. It is important to remember that these tests don't define you at all. The test is forty-five minutes of one day, in one week, in one term and is only a small snapshot of your learning. All students at Prestons Public School are all legends in their own right. The tests don't say a thing about how interesting you are, how kind you are, how funny you are, how unique you are or how awesome you are! NAPLAN tests will help to tell our teachers a bit more about you and your learning. They already know so much about you and this is one more piece of information that will help us to know what you are really good at and what we need to help you with. Thank you for helping us to learn more about you and your learning goals. Make sure you take lots of time this week to breathe and have fun. We are very proud of you all. Mrs Van Der Meulen and all of the teachers at Prestons Public School. We also have PSSA starting this week, good luck to all of our teams. Make sure that you represent our school well and show everyone what amazing students we have at Prestons. The students who stay back at school for sport have many exciting options, our Back at School Sport Program includes many fun sports, including a special tennis program. Spaces are limited for the tennis program so make sure you get your notes in to secure a spot. Thank you to all of our students and their families for remembering to wear full school uniform each day, it is great to see our students showing a sense of pride in our great school and wearing their uniform with pride. Just a reminder that black tights are not a part of our uniform for girls. Many girls wear black tights underneath their skirt or skort, this is perfectly fine, however, tights alone are not a part of our school uniform. Thank you for your support in this. Congratulations to many of our wonderful students who are becoming rubbish warriors at Prestons, together we are keeping our great school clean and making it a place that we can be proud to work and play in. Have a great week and don’t forget to ask your child what they are learning at school this week.

I would like to take this opportunity to send a special message to all of our Year 3 and Year 5 students:

Dear Prestons Legends,

This week you are sitting the NAPLAN tests. It is important to remember that these tests don't define you at

know so much about you and this is one more piece of information that will help us to know what you are

really good at and what we need to help you with. Thank you for helping us to learn more about you and your

learning goals. Make sure you take lots of time this week to breathe and have fun. We are very proud of you

all.

Mrs Van Der Meulen and all of the teachers at Prestons Public School.

Classroom Chat with …..

Wow! This year has gone by so fast, 6 Eagles

are super proud of all the work they have

already completed this term.

During term 2, we are learning about the

Gold Rush. We have spent the last 2 weeks

making a huge mural of an old mining town

from the Eureka Stockade. We have also been

fortunate enough to go gold mining in our

school playground to earn pounds. Once we

have been gold mining, Mario trades in our

gold for pounds and shillings, at the bank of

Van Der Meulen. Other ways we can earn

some pounds is through displaying the school

rules both in and out of our classroom. We

must be careful not to lose our mining

license, because then we are fined a whopping

25 pounds.

6 Eagles also have been learning how to use

emotive language to assist us in our

persuasive writing. My favourite topic in

writing so far was where we wrote about why

we love Australia.

Jeffy S, 6 Eagles.

Spotlight on Learning

Students in 1 Flamingos are having fun learning and working

hard on the Guided Reading Program.

Stewart House Donation Drive 2018

Students have been issued with a Stewart House Donation Drive envelope. You could win a $4000 FAMILY HOLIDAY by donating $2 and completing the entry details on the back of the envelope. Stewart House is a not-for-profit organisation which provides refuge for children who may need a break from their regular schooling or family circumstances.

Each year Stewart House looks after 1,800 public school children across NSW and the ACT. These children take part in a 12 day residential program at the organisation's headquarters on Sydney's northern beaches.

Stewart House relies on donations so this service can continue. Your donation towards this will help and will put you in the draw to possibly win a $4000 family holiday.

Please return the envelope, with your details completed

and your $2 donation enclosed to the office by

Wednesday 16th May 2018.
