The GardensHere at Ye Olde Plough House we are proud of our award winning gardens which include two Portland stone arches from the old demolished Grays public library which have been re-erected together with the stone from an old Church in Leeds.

The old stream which flows to the Thames has been extensively landscaped and the whole atmosphere of the grounds is one of peace and tranquility.

Civil CeremoniesEssex County Council granted approval for Ye Olde Plough House to be used as a venue for the solemnization of marriages, under the 1949 and 1994 Marriage Acts on the 20th March 2000.

To arrange a ceremony at Ye Olde Plough House, it is necessary to initially make a provisional booking with Ye Olde Plough House for the required date, which can be held for fourteen days. Within this period

the Bride & Groom should then Contact Thurrock Register Office on 01375 375245 for advice and to check availability and the current rates.

Monks Barn WeddingsThe Barn was originally built about 1650 at Dennington in Norfolk. All the timbers were numbered, dismantled and were made ready for re-erection and now stand proud in the grounds of Ye Olde Plough House. In its 350 year life the barn has been home to many glorious occasions and the views of the beautifully landscaped gardens enhances the beauty of the barn making it the ideal wedding venue.

AccommodationWe currently have 67 accommodation rooms set amongst our gardens. All have en-suite bathrooms with either a bath or shower, freeview televisions, tea & coffee making facilities and ample parking.

To reserve accommodation payment in full is required on booking to secure it. If you wish to book the bridal suite for your special evening we advise you to book at the time of booking your Wedding Reception to ensure the availability.

Check in time for all accommodation is 2.00pm, Check out time is 10.30am.

Booking form

WARNING: You should read the Terms & Conditions overleaf and familiarise yourselves with them. Once you have agreed to be bound by them you have entered into an agreement under which you have an obligation to fulfil.

1. A provisional booking can be held for a period not exceeding 14 days.

2. A booking will not be confirmed until a £1000.00 deposit has been paid and Ye Olde Plough House have received a signed copy of the terms and conditions. Please note deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.

3. Six Months prior to the date of your function, an interim payment of £1,000.00 is required. Please note this payment is also non-refundable & non-transferable.

4. Approximately 6 weeks prior to your function, you will be invited to attend a consultation with a function coordinator. At this consultation your function will be discussed, and full details of your requirements, including your menu choices and confirmation of the number of your guests attending your function will need to be confirmed by you. Based upon this consultation, an invoice will be prepared and forwarded to you within seven days.

5. Full Payment for your function must be paid to us at least 21 days prior to your function.

6. Any additional expenses incurred on the day are to be settled on departure. Cash, credit & debit cards are the only acceptable means of payment.

7. Table plans must be submitted 7 days prior to the function.

8. All prices are inclusive of the current rate of V.A.T.

9. Ye Olde Plough House hereby make you aware that they cannot accept any responsibility for the supervision of children around our ponds or grounds.

10. All Wedding Functions that have booked a meal during the day must have an evening buffet for a minimum of 75% of your total guests attending the evening.

11. In the event of a cancellation within 5 months of the function by you, the Ye Olde Plough House will be permitted to recover its estimated losses. These will be based on the information provided on the wedding booking form. For guidance purposes they are likely to be as follows. At 5 months notice, but not less than 3 months - 50% of the total estimated bill. At 3 months notice, or less 75% of the total estimated bill.

12. It is not the Ye Olde Plough House’s responsibility to liase with the District registrar with regards to services held at “Ye Olde Plough House” and we accept no liability for a wedding ceremony not taking place howsoever caused.

13. It is the Ye Olde Plough House suggestion that all wedding parties should consider taking an appropriate insurance policy to insure their wedding day.

14. The Ye Olde Plough House reserves the right to amend its published prices by giving you a minimum of 3 months notice.

15. The Ye Olde Plough House also reserves the right to increase its published prices for V.A.T. and duty increases imposed on them by the Government’s budget without prior notice.

16 Ye Olde Plough House accepts all bookings on the basis that the venue supplies all food and drink items with the exception of one Wedding cake.  Please note any guests found consuming their own drink will be escorted from the premises.

17 Ye Olde Plough House hereby inform you that if any of your guests require reservations for our overnight accommodation that our hotel rooms are let on a first come first served basis and we therefore suggest, to avoid disappointment that you inform your guests that early booking is advisable, to secure their overnight room. Please also be advised that payment for these rooms will be required in full when a reservation is made.

18. Cars parked at the Ye Olde Plough House are left at the owners own risk.

19. Damage (other than fair wear and tear) to the Ye Olde Plough House, including any part of the premises, plants, equipment or the grounds, caused by the bridal couples or their guests, will be charged at the original price.

20. The Ye Olde Plough House cannot accept responsibility for the loss of wedding gifts and/or any property left in public areas. All function rooms need to be cleared at the end of the evening of any such items. Any unclaimed property will only be kept for a period of 7 days.

21. The Ye Olde Plough House cannot accept responsibility for the dressing of the function tables, with the exception of our own items, the placing of name cards and favours, if applicable to your function. If you require our staff to carry out any additional dressing of the function tables, these will be undertaken in accordance with your instructions if possible and at an additional cost. Any additional requirements in this regard must be disclosed and costs agreed on or before the consultation referred to in Clause 4 of these terms and conditions.

22. To comply with licensing regulations all our bars (including residents bar) will close at 11.45pm.

23. Cancellation of a wedding will only be accepted in writing with at least one signatory of the bridal couple. Cancellation is accepted on the date of receipt of that letter.

24. Entertainers will need to satisfy the Ye Olde Plough House pursuant to its License for Public Entertainment, that the entertainers equipment has been tested in accordance with N.I.C 16th Edition requirements. In addition to the above, albeit not compulsory the Ye Olde Plough House would also like to satisfy itself that any entertainers do have satisfactory Public Liability Insurance. For bridal parties that have secures the recommended services of the Ye Olde Plough House, the criteria has been met. This legislation has been adopted by the Local Authority in an attempt to ensure that guests safety is maintained when a Music & Dance Licence is in operation.

25. Please note that you are each jointly and severally liable, under these terms and conditions, for all monies due or owed to the Ye Olde Plough House.

26. The Ceremony times cannot be amended from that stated on the Wedding Booking form unless written consent is received from the venue.

27. No candles, Chinese Lanterns, Fireworks, Confetti Cannons or Confetti balloons are permitted.

28. No Live Bands are permitted.

29. All Wedding functions in the Cavalier suite must order a minimum of the Silver Package. All wedding functions in the Monks Barn must order a minimum of the Gold Package.

30 You are not permitted to bring your own sweetcart, only the use of Ye Olde Plough House Sweetie cart is permitted, If you require the provision of external chair covers or a Chocolate fountain (Solar Chocolate Fountains only are permitted at Ye Olde Plough House) then you will require Ye Olde Plough Houses permission for any such requests. Please note that Ye Olde Plough House will levy a £50.00 charge per request for any acceptable supplies. The charge will be payable when your final balance is due.

Terms & Conditions of Booking

5. Full Payment for your function must be paid to us at least 21 days prior to your function.

6. Any additional expenses incurred on the day are to be settled on departure. Cash, credit & debit cards are the only acceptable means of payment.

7. Table plans must be submitted 7 days prior to the function.

8. All prices are inclusive of the current rate of V.A.T.

9. Ye Olde Plough House hereby make you aware that they cannot accept any responsibility for the supervision of children around our ponds or grounds.

10. All Wedding Functions that have booked a meal during the day must have an evening buffet for a minimum of 75% of your total guests attending the evening.

11. In the event of a cancellation within 5 months of the function by you, the Ye Olde Plough House will be permitted to recover its estimated losses. These will be based on the information provided on the wedding booking form. For guidance purposes they are likely to be as follows. At 5 months notice, but not less than 3 months - 50% of the total estimated bill. At 3 months notice, or less 75% of the total estimated bill.

12. It is not the Ye Olde Plough House’s responsibility to liase with the District registrar with regards to services held at “Ye Olde Plough House” and we accept no liability for a wedding ceremony not taking place howsoever caused.

13. It is the Ye Olde Plough House suggestion that all wedding parties should consider taking an appropriate insurance policy to insure their wedding day.

14. The Ye Olde Plough House reserves the right to amend its published prices by giving you a minimum of 3 months notice.

15. The Ye Olde Plough House also reserves the right to increase its published prices for V.A.T. and duty increases imposed on them by the Government’s budget without prior notice.

16 Ye Olde Plough House accepts all bookings on the basis that the venue supplies all food and drink items with the exception of one Wedding cake.  Please note any guests found consuming their own drink will be escorted from the premises.

17 Ye Olde Plough House hereby inform you that if any of your guests require reservations for our overnight accommodation that our hotel rooms are let on a first come first served basis and we therefore suggest, to avoid disappointment that you inform your guests that early booking is advisable, to secure their overnight room. Please also be advised that payment for these rooms will be required in full when a reservation is made.

18. Cars parked at the Ye Olde Plough House are left at the owners own risk.

19. Damage (other than fair wear and tear) to the Ye Olde Plough House, including any part of the premises, plants, equipment or the grounds, caused by the bridal couples or their guests, will be charged at the original price.

20. The Ye Olde Plough House cannot accept responsibility for the loss of wedding gifts and/or any property left in public areas. All function rooms need to be cleared at the end of the evening of any such items. Any unclaimed property will only be kept for a period of 7 days.

21. The Ye Olde Plough House cannot accept responsibility for the dressing of the function tables, with the exception of our own items, the placing of name cards and favours, if applicable to your function. If you require our staff to carry out any additional dressing of the function tables, these will be undertaken in accordance with your instructions if possible and at an additional cost. Any additional requirements in this regard must be disclosed and costs agreed on or before the consultation referred to in Clause 4 of these terms and conditions.

22. To comply with licensing regulations all our bars (including residents bar) will close at 11.45pm.

23. Cancellation of a wedding will only be accepted in writing with at least one signatory of the bridal couple. Cancellation is accepted on the date of receipt of that letter.

24. Entertainers will need to satisfy the Ye Olde Plough House pursuant to its License for Public Entertainment, that the entertainers equipment has been tested in accordance with N.I.C 16th Edition requirements. In addition to the above, albeit not compulsory the Ye Olde Plough House would also like to satisfy itself that any entertainers do have satisfactory Public Liability Insurance. For bridal parties that have secures the recommended services of the Ye Olde Plough House, the criteria has been met. This legislation has been adopted by the Local Authority in an attempt to ensure that guests safety is maintained when a Music & Dance Licence is in operation.

25. Please note that you are each jointly and severally liable, under these terms and conditions, for all monies due or owed to the Ye Olde Plough House.

26. The Ceremony times cannot be amended from that stated on the Wedding Booking form unless written consent is received from the venue.

27. No candles, Chinese Lanterns, Fireworks, Confetti Cannons or Confetti balloons are permitted.

28. No Live Bands are permitted.

29. All Wedding functions in the Cavalier suite must order a minimum of the Silver Package. All wedding functions in the Monks Barn must order a minimum of the Gold Package.

30 You are not permitted to bring your own sweetcart, only the use of Ye Olde Plough House Sweetie cart is permitted, If you require the provision of external chair covers or a Chocolate fountain (Solar Chocolate Fountains only are permitted at Ye Olde Plough House) then you will require Ye Olde Plough Houses permission for any such requests. Please note that Ye Olde Plough House will levy a £50.00 charge per request for any acceptable supplies. The charge will be payable when your final balance is due.
