Social Media Audits and Recommendations A: Analysis of current efforts Current #’s Twitter: 1,285 Followers, following 571, number of posts 1,875 Instagram: 423 followers, following 106, number of posts 530 Facebook: 2,479 likes, over 100 photo albums Strengths Twitter: retweeting, hash tagging, and posting information about upcoming events. Instagram: pictures of events and upcoming events. Facebook: amounts of followers, and page likes. Areas of improvement Twitter: more favorites, follower interaction Instagram: more followers Facebook: more sharing and follower interaction B Moving forward we suggest that Girl Scout Central California South should add a Pinterest to their social media accounts. A Pinterest could be very useful to the mothers of the Girl Scouts and Girl Scout volunteers. You can create boards for recipes, activities for youth, organization tips, art activities and inspiration quotes about women. We would advise you not to delete any of your current social media platforms because they all serve different target audiences for your organization. We recommend that your organization posts on each of your social media platforms at least once a day but twice on Facebook because it is your most popular account. We recommend that you post between the hours of 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Types of content we suggest:

#DYK (did you know?) posts to better in form the target audience about Girl Scouts.

Double up on interactive posts. Example: questions (to promote interaction)

Short videos of the Girl Scouts themselves talking about Girl Scouts and what they like about it.

Appeal to moms with activity suggestions, art project instructions, recipes, and organization tips. (This will make the social media platforms more useful to the target audience.)

Memes about being a leader/strong women. (These are likely to be shared amongst women and girls.)

Day themes are always good. Exp: #MotivationalMonday #StrongWomanWednesday (highlighting a strong role model for young girls) #ShoutOutSaturday (A great way to recognize volunteers and troop leaders. The person being featured in the post will most likely share it and expand your network.)

Monthly themes would be a fresh idea to spice up your networks. Example: In October you can have a pink theme for breast cancer awareness.

Pictures of the girls doing volunteer work.

Girl Scout alumna posts would be cool for the girls to see what they have to look forward to.

We recommend that your organization focuses on becoming useful to your target audience. People will follow an account that they are not particularly interested in just because they love empowering quotes, fun recipes, or organization tips. Girl Scouts info will get onto their feed and they will learn more and more about Girl Scouts without thinking about it. They will share things with their friends, expanding your outreach. We also recommend doing more videos for your accounts. Videos will get a lot of attention for your organization and the girls. Make sure that you are responding to comments so that your audience sees you as a real person. Change up your cover photos and other visual elements of your pages often to keep them fresh and visually pleasing to your viewers. These are all great ways to get more interaction on your social media accounts, but overall we suggest that you find your target audience for each of your social media accounts and that will send you in the right direction in regards to content. If there are negative comments toward posts we think the best to respond right away and not ignore these comments. Try to be personal, apologetic and understanding. We do believe that you should use the Facebook option of blocking certain words in comments, this will help protect the girls fro, seeing vulgar things on their organizations account. C: something with all of these social media sites I’ve realized is they need more follower interaction, posts that require responses from followers. D Pinterest is a great source for content. You will be able to find a lot of quotes about strong woman, inspirational quotes, recipes, and life tips. Most of your content will be found internally: pictures of your girls, advertising fundraisers, promoting the accomplishments of GSCCS, etc. E: something I would consider doing is maybe once a week choosing a girl scout to honor on the social media sites to receive more interaction from the parents and girl scouts. F We recommend that you evaluate your social media platforms monthly using Tweriod or Twitrland and Facebook insights. If your try a new thing every month on your social media

platforms you'll be able to see what is working and what you should switch up next month. Every month you should also look over your social media platforms and think “If I wasn't involved in this organization would I follow this account?”. G Twitter: overall the most exposure of tweets throughout the week would be 9am-1pm and over the weekend 8 am-1pm. The most followers online on the weekend would be 9 am and 12pm, on the weekdays 11am-1pm. Instagram: On Instagram I realized that most followers are on it around lunch time 11am-1pm, to receive max amount of exposure I would post around 10 am. Facebook: I would aim for posting around around 9-10 am and 12-2pm when Facebook is most active. H Running social media accounts can be very over whelming so we suggest that you create your content in bulk, monthly is best. You can schedule this content on Hootesuite and Facebook. This will reduce the stress of having to remember when to post everyday. If you do schedule your content just be aware of real time tragedies or events that come up and alter your content accordingly. Social media is supposed to be fun so make sure you have fun while creating your content and be creative. The best thing about doing social media for Girl Scouts is that you can pull inspiration from all around you! I When posting important information or something significant to GSCCS I would post it on every social media platform, short and sweet on twitter with only the most important details. On Instagram reader friendly, the picture you chose should be the most significant aspect. On Facebook you should have the most details about what information you are releasing to the public mostly because this is the platform with the most followers, and most parents and donors are on Facebook.
