Method of Instruction and Teaching Strategies: Lectures, labs, question and answer sessions

Requirements for Successful Completion & Evaluation: Attendance, skill labs, tests, media resource center assignment, and internet project.

Learning Resource Center Information: Hours 7:45 AM-9:30PM Mon-Thurs 7:45AM – 6:00 PM Fri and Sat

Students with Special Needs: Any student who requires special accommodations should contact the instructor (during office hours) by no later than the second class meeting.

The Pacific Institute (TPI) Element: Daily WIIFM’s (What’s In It For Me) The instructor will use examples throughout each meeting to relate the class content to the student’s career field and everyday life.

Participation/Professionalism: A great deal of this class involves the student participating in and developing his/her own success strategy. Students are strongly encouraged to be here for every class. Participation and Professionalism constitutes 20% of each student’s final grade. In order to receive full credit in this category, a student must be present and participate in all sanctioned class activities for the entire class time.

Attendance Policy: Student learning is increased by regular and prompt participation in all classes. The business community expects employees to be regular and punctual in attendance. Students, as part of their training for business careers, are expected to maintain a good attendance record.

As the principles of personal responsibility are at the foundation of this curriculum, a no fault attendance policy is in place for this class. The instructor will not decide if a student's absence from class is warranted. It is, however, the responsibility of the student to notify the instructor in advance of any and all absences for which the student wishes make up privileges. Any incidences where the instructor does not receive notification will be treated as a NO CALL/ NO SHOW. *NOTE: Letters from Doctors or Employers will not change this policy!

Internet Usage: There is to be no internet surfing during class unless instructed by the instructor.

Tardiness: Students arriving more than 20 minutes late or leaving early are responsible for notifying the instructor for the purposes of proper documentation.

Late Work: All assignments are due on the instructor’s desk at the beginning of each class period. Students will be allowed to turn in no more than two assignments beyond the due date. The first late assignment will be assessed a 25% penalty per day late. The second late assignment will be assessed a 50% penalty per day late.

Students will be allowed to only make up one exam within two days of their return to class.

Dress: In accordance with the Student Handbook, students are required to dress in attire appropriate for a college classroom, and are to refrain from wearing clothing that might be considered “distracting” to others in the classroom.

No Hats or Scarf’s of any type

In addition, the curriculum has assignments in which a student’s professional appearance will be evaluated as part of the overall grade of the assignment

Decorum: The following are some behaviors inappropriate for a college classroom: *sleeping in class *children in class *unauthorized visitors *rude behavior * interrupting speakers *profane language

MP3 Players/Thumb Drives: No MP3 players or headphones will be allowed on campus or used in classroom unless consent is given by instructor. Thumb Drives can be used for saving of classroom files only.

What’s In It For Me: Having a strong foundation in the concepts and rich features of Excel will make me a valuable person to others I associate with in my career; there is an extensive amount of information that can be manipulated in a spreadsheet which can then be sorted, hidden to create a summary, formatted as a form to be filled out by customers or associates that will make access to numerical data gathered in a short amount of time.

Course/Classroom Policies: No food or drink will be allowed in the classrooms. No MP3 players or headphones will be allowed. No cell phone use (including texting) will be allowed during class except in an

emergency. Students must dress and act professionally for any field trips or guest speakers. Students are expected and required to attend class and to be on time. Additional classroom policies may be included by the instructor and will be discussed in

class.

Academic Honesty:Plagiarism, cheating, and other forms of academic dishonesty are prohibited. Plagiarism is defined as an act or instance of stealing or passing off the ideas or words of another as one’s own, or to use a creative production without crediting the source. Students guilty of academic misconduct either directly or indirectly through participation or assistance, are immediately responsible to the Instructor of the class. In addition to other possible disciplinary sanctions,

which may be imposed through the regular institutional procedures as a result of academic misconduct, the Instructor has the authority to assign an “F” or a “zero” for the exercise or examination, or to assign an “F” for the course.

Attendance: Student learning is increased by regular and prompt participation in all classes. The business community expects employees to be regular and punctual in attendance. Students, as part of their training for business careers, are expected to maintain a good attendance record.

Each student is expected to attend all scheduled classes on a regular and timely basis. Each student is responsible for making up all work missed during absences. An anticipated absence should be discussed with the instructor in advance. A student with persistent absence may be dropped from class by action of the instructor, the Director of Education, the Campus Director, and/or the Student Services Coordinator. After a student has been dropped from a class, only the instructor, the Director of Education, or the Campus Director may approve reinstatement. However, no reinstatement may occur during that particular term.
