Ein gweledigaeth yn Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân yw darparu ysgol lle mae plant, rhieni, athrawon, llywodraethwyr a’r gymuned yn medru gweithio gyda’i gilydd i gynnig awyrgylch groesawgar, diogel, gofalus a gweithgar i bob unigolyn.

Ceisiwn ddathlu ein llwyddiannau gyda’n gilydd fel cymuned ysgol gyda phob unigolyn yn werthfawr ac yn cael parch. Ceisiwn annog yn yr holl gymuned ysgol barch at ein hiaith a’n treftadaeth ein hunain yn ogystal ag ieithoedd a diwylliannau eraill.

Mae lles ac addysg y plant yn ganolog i bob penderfyniad a wneir yn Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân. Ceisiwn ddarparu cwricwlwm cyfoethog, cytbwys gyda digon o adnoddau i hybu chwilfrydedd naturiol bob plentyn beth bynnag bo ei liw,cenedl,diwylliant neu dras.

Ein nôd fydd bod bywydau y plant fydd yn gadael Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân wedi cael eu cyfoethogi a’u ehangu drwy eu profiad gyda ni ac y bydd pob plentyn gyda’r gallu a’r awydd i ddysgu mwy ac i wynebu sialens eu bywydau yn y dyfodol.

Nod ac Amcanion

Yn Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân mae pob disgybl gyfwerth a’i gilydd ond derbyniwn hefyd bod plant yn wahanol i’w gilydd a chanddynt yr hawl i lwyddo mewn gwahanol ffyrdd. Parchwn bob disgybl o bob rhyw, lliw a chred a cheisiwn ddysgu’r plant i ddatblygu drwy barchu cred a diwylliant pobl eraill yn seiliedig ar eu parch tuag at y ddwy iaith a diwylliant sydd yn eu gwlad nhw’u hunain. Disgwyliwn i’r plant weithio’n galed, i fwynhau bywyd ysgol ac hefyd i gadw rheolau’r ysgol. Mewn geiriau eraill disgwyliwn iddynt weithio yn eu swyddi o fod yn ddisgyblion mewn Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg.

Yn Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân, mae sgiliau Technoleg, Gwybodaeth a Chyfathrebu yn rhan hanfodol o'n llwyddiant wrth i ni fyw, gweithio a chwarae yn yr unfed ganrif ar hugain.

Ein bwriad yw eu datblygu yn blant sy’n medru gweithio’n annibynnol i ymchwilio’n dda ond i gydweithio a’i gilydd ac i barchu a gofalu am ei gilydd.

‘Learning and achieving together’

Our vision is to provide a school where pupils, parents, teachers, governors and the local community are able to work together to produce a safe, welcoming environment conducive to high educational standards.

We aspire to be a school which celebrates success, where each individual is made to feel important and worthwhile. We aspire to create a sense of reverence for our language, culture and history and a respect for other languages and cultures.

The education and wellbeing of the children is of utmost importance when making any decision at the school. We constantly strive to provide an interesting and varied curriculum that will engage the child’s natural capacity for learning, whatever his colour, nationality, culture or creed.

In Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbran, Information, Technology and Communication skills play a vital part in our success as we live, work and play in the 21st Century."

We aspire to provide our pupils on leaving Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân, with the educational tools and social skills to continue with their learning and prepare them for future life.

Aims and Objectives

All children are equal to each other but we also accept that children differ from each other and that they can succeed in different ways. We respect every pupil of all races, colour and creed, and we hope to teach the children to develop by respecting children of all cultures and creeds based on their respect of the two languages and cultures in their own country. We expect children to work hard, to enjoy school life and to keep the rules of the school. In other words we expect them to work at their tasks and to be pupils of a WelshMediumPrimary School.

It is our aim to develop the pupils into independent learners who can research well and can work together as a team in a caring and respectful atmosphere.

Agorwyd yr Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg hon ym Medi 1991er mwyn gwasanaethu talgylch tref Cwmbrân a’r cyffuniau. Fe’i hagorwyd fel ysgol Babanod ac Iau ond ym Medi 1997 agorwyd dosbarth meithrin fel rhan o’r ysgol. Derbynnir disgyblion yn unol â’r Polisi Sirol, sef ar ddechrau’r mis Medi yn dilyn eu pen-blwydd yn bedair oed neu ar ddechrau’r mis Medi yn dilyn eu pen-blwydd yn dair oed i’r dosbarth meithrin.

Yn y tymor cyn y dyddiad y mae’r plentyn i ddechrau fe gynnigir y cyfle i bob rhiant ymweld â’r ysgol i gwrdd â’r staff ac i holi a thrafod materion allweddol. Bydd cyfle hefyd i’r plentyn dreulio cyfnod yn yr ysgol. Ar ddechrau’r tymor newydd fe fydd y plant yn cael pob cyfle posibl i ymgartrefu yn yr ysgol mewn grwpiau bach cyn i’r dosbarth llawn gofrestru gyda’i gilydd.

Mae’r ysgol hon yn ysgol Gymraeg ac addysgir plant rhwng 3 ac 11 oed drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg. Anogir plant i ddangos balchder yn eu gallu i siarad Cymraeg. Dysgir Saesneg fel pwnc craidd ychwanegol i ddisgyblion Cyfnod Allweddol 2. Ym Medi 2015 fe fydd 339 o ddisgyblion llawn amser yn yr ysgol a 52 o ddisgyblion meithrin rhan amser.

Prif nod yr ysgol yw sicrhau y caiff pob disgybl y cyfle i ddatblygu hyd eithaf ei allu gan feithrin agweddau a rhannu profiadau fydd yn gosod sylfaen gadarn i’w fywyd fel oedolyn. Gwneir hyn drwy ennyn balchder yn ei Gymreictod a theyrngarwch tuag at gymuned ac etifeddiaeth.

The school is a Welsh Primary School which was opened as an Infant and Junior School in September 1991 serving the catchment area of Cwmbran town. In September 1997 a Nursery class was opened as part of the school. The school accepts pupils in accordance with the CountyPolicy from the beginning of September following their fourth birthday or from the beginning of September following their third birthday to the nursery class.

During the term prior to the date on which the child is due to start, each parent is invited to the school to meet the staff and to ask and discuss many key questions and issues. In addition each child has an opportunity to visit the school for a period of time. At the beginning of the new term the children will be given a chance to settle down in small groups before the class is registered as a form.

Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân is a Welsh school and all pupils from the ages of 3 to 11 are educated through the medium of Welsh. They are always encouraged to show pride in their ability to speak Welsh. English is taught as an additional core subject at Key Stage 2. In September 2015 there will be 339 full time pupils on roll as well as 52 part time nursery pupils.

The main aim of the school is to give each pupil the opportunity to develop to his full potential by nurturing attitudes and sharing experiences that will serve as a strong grounding for adult life. This is done whilst encouraging a pride in Welshness and a loyalty towards community and heritage.

Annwyl Riant / Warcheidwad,

Croeso i Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân. Wrth gyflwyno’r llyfryn ‘Gwybodaeth i Rieni’ i chi, estynnwn groeso i’ch plentynfel disgybl yn yr ysgol. Gyda’ch cydweithrediad chi, gobeithiwn yn fawr y bydd arhosiad eich plentyn gyda ni yn un hapus ac y bydd yndatblygu’n addysgol a chymdeithasol dros y blynyddoedd. Ceir manylion yma am nifer o bethau sydd o bwys os yw’r ysgol yn mynd i redeg yn effeithiol a’ch plentyn yn mynd i ymgartrefu yma’n hawdd, ac mae’n bwysig eich bod yn eu darllen yn ofalus.

Dylwn nodi’n eglur mai partneriaeth yw addysg rhyngom ni yma a chwithau’r rhieni yn y cartref. Mae eich rhanchi’n eithriadol o bwysig os yw eich plentyn am gael y gorau o fod yn yr ysgol. Welcome to Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân. While presenting you with this booklet, ‘Information to Parents’, we welcome your child as a new pupil to the school. With your co-operation we hope that his/her time here will be a happy one and that we will see a steady educational and social development during his/her stay with us.

There are details here of important things which need to be noted if the school is to function effectively and your child is to settle down quickly and it is imperative that you read the contents carefully.

It is extremely important that we see education as a partnership between the school and you the parents at home. Your role is paramount if your child is to get the best out of his/her schooling. You should encourage your child to talk about his school work on a daily basis. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of your support in ensuring the best possible education for your child.

Should you be concerned about any issue regarding your child’s development then please don’t hesitate to contact the School.

Diwrnod ysgol

Dechreuir pob diwrnod â gwasanaeth boreol. Mae gwasanaeth i’r ysgol gyfan ar fore Llun, Mawrth a Mercher. Cynhelir gwasanaeth arbennig ar ddiwedd prynhawn Gwener lle gwobrwyir un disgybl o bob dosbarth am ymdrech ychwanegol yn ystod yr wythnos. Gwahoddir rhieni ‘disgyblion yr wythnos’ i’r gwasanaeth ar fore Mawrth i weld eu plant yn derbyn eu tystysgrifau. Yn ogystal a gwasanaethau, ceir sesiynnau canu bob wythnos gyda disgyblion Cyfnod Allweddol 2 yn cwrdd ar fore Iau a phlant y Cyfnod Sylfaen yn cwrdd ar fore Gwener.

Bydd plant yn ymgynnull ar iard yr ysgol ar ddechrau’r dydd ac fe fydd athro ar ddyletswydd rhwng 08.50 a 9.00 pan genir y gloch. Ar ddiwrnod gwlyb caniateir i’r plant fynd yn syth i’w hystafelloedd ar ôl cyrraedd yr ysgol.

Gofynnwn yn garedig ichi adael y plant yng ngofal yr athrawon i fynd i mewn i’r ysgol os nad oes rheswm arbennig am beidio â gwneud hynny. Os ydych yn hwyr yn cyrraedd yr ysgol, bydd angen i chi fynd at y swyddfa er mwyn cofnodi presenoldeb y disgybl yn yr ysgol. Eto, gofynnwn yn garedig i chi adael y plentyn yng ngofal yr ysgrifenyddes yn hytrach na thorri ar draws trefn yr ysgol drwy fynd â’r plentyn i’w ddosbarth.

Yn ystod yr awr ginio, bydd y plant o dan ofal staff cynorthwyol a’r cynorthwy-wyr.Mae'r ysgol wedi gosod cloeon ar y drysau allanol i gyd, ac ni all neb gael mynediad heb ganiatâd. Mae pob ystafell â larwm iddi ac mae camerâu CCTV o gwmpas y tu allan i'r ysgol.

Ar ddiwedd y dydd, bydd y plant yn cael eu tywys at y mannau ymgynnull. Bydd athrawon yn gyfrifol am arwain y plant at y bysiau wrth ymyl y cylchdro. Bydd yr athrawon yn tywys dosbarthiadau’r Cyfnod Sylfaen yn eu tro at yr iard lle bydd y rhieni/gwarchodwyr yn cwrdd â’r plant am 3.20pm. Bydd disgyblion Cyfnod Allweddol 2 yn cael eu tywys at yr iard gan yr athrawon ac yn cael eu rhyddhau i’r rhieni/gwarchodwyr am 3.30pm.

Os nad oes rhiant neu warchodwr yn casglu’r plant ar ddiwedd y dydd, bydd yr athrawon yn tywys y plant yn ôl at y swyddfa lle byddwn yn ceisio ffonio un o’r rhifau cyswllt.Yn anffodus, does dim lle ar dir yr ysgol i rieni barcio ceir ac er mwyn diogelwch y plant gofynnwn yn garedig i chi barcio y tu allan i dir yr ysgol a cherdded at yr iard i gasglu’ch plant.

Y Dosbarth Meithrin

Rydym yn derbyn plant i’n meithrin (rhan amser) yn dilyn eu pen-blwydd yn dair oed.

Y Dosbarth Derbyn

Cynnigir lle yn ein Dosbarth Derbyn i blant sy’n byw yn y dalgylch. Os oes lle gellir derbyn plant o’r tu allan i’r dalgylch hefyd. Yr Awdurdod Addysg sy’n gyfrifol am hyn.

Mae croeso i rieni sydd â diddordeb mewn anfon eu plant i’r ysgol i gysylltu â’r pennaeth, a fydd yn hapus i drefnu amser cyfleus i chwi ymweld â’r ysgol.

Cyswllt Cartref

Mae cyfathrebu agored ac effeithiol rhwng yr ysgol â’r cartref yn hanfodol i ddatblygiad a lles pob plentyn. Gall rhieni gysylltu â’r ysgol unrhyw adeg i drafod gofidiau neu i wneud apwyntiad i siarad â’r athro dosbarth neu’r Pennaeth.Dosberthir copi o’n Cytundeb Ysgol-Cartref i bob teulu.

Cyflwynir rhaglen dymhorol i bob rhiant o’r hyn y bydd ei blentyn yn ei wneud ym mhob dosbarth yn ystod y tymor. Danfonir calendar o weithgareddau a digwyddiadau i bob cartref.Ystyriwn ddatblygiad addysgiadol y plentyn yn broses a rennir rhwng y teulu a’r ysgol.

Cyfle Cyfartal

Credwn yn gryf yn ein hysgol ni fod pob plentyn, beth bynnag ei hil, ei genedl neu allu, yn haeddu cyfle cyfartal. Trwy gydol pob gweithgaredd yn yr Ysgol a’r cwricwlwm, bydd gan y plentyn gyfle i gymryd rhan ac wrth wneud hynny, i ddatblygu eu gwybodaeth, eu sgiliau personol a’u boddhad.Gwneir pob ymdrech i sicrhau bod gweithgareddau a thasgau yn ddiddorol i fechgyn a merched.

Dylai disgyblion sydd ag anawsterau arbennig gael eu hannog i gyflawni gymaint â phosibl o’u hastudiaethau. Rhaid darparu’n hyblyg ac addas er mwyn eu helpu i gyflawni eu potensial llawn. Mae copi o bolisi Cyfle Cyfartal yr ysgol ar gael i’r rhieni.

Disgyblion ag anabledd

Byddwn yn ymdrechu i beidio gwahaniaethu ar sail anabledd. Byddwn yn trin pob plentyn yn gyfartal ac yn defnyddio’r un polisi derbyn ar gyfer pawb.Byddwn yn annog disgyblion a staff i drin pawb yn gyfartal yn unol â’n Polisi Cyfle Cyfartal.Mae adeilad yr ysgol yn addas ar gyfer disgyblion ag anableddau corfforol gan y gellid teithio i bob rhan heb ddefnyddio grisiau, ac mae tŷ bach addas gennym, ac mae CynllunHygyrchedd gan yr ysgol.

The School Day

The school day begins with a morning assembly. There is a whole school assembly on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. A special assembly is held on Friday afternoon where a pupil is chosen from each class as the one who has made most effort during the week. The parents of the children receiving certificates for effort are also invited to the Tuesday morning assembly.

As well as these assemblies, there are singing sessions in the hall. Key Stage 2 pupils meet on a Thursday morning and the Foundation Phase children meet on a Friday morning.

Afternoon:

Nursery 13.00 – 15.30Infants 13.20 – 15.20Juniors 13.00 – 15.30

The children assemble on the school iard at the start of the school day and a teacher will be on duty between 08.50 and 9.00 when the school bell rings. On a wet day the children are allowed to go to their classrooms as soon as they arrive. We kindly ask that you leave your child with the class teacher as they enter the school unless there is a particular reason for not doing so. If you are late arriving at school please could you see the secretary so that she can register your child. Once again we kindly ask that you leave your child with the secretary in order to avoid disruption within the school.

During the dinner hour children are supervised by Supervisory Assistants and the Teaching Assistants.The school has fitted locks on all the external doors, and nobody can gain admission without permission. Every classroom is alarmed and there are CCTV cameras around the outside of the school.

At the end of the school day the children are taken to certain meeting points. The teachers of the Foundation Phase classes will lead each class in turn to the yard where parents or guardians can meet them at 3.20pm. The Junior Department classes will also be lead in turn to the yard where the teaching staff will release them to parents /guardians at 3.30pm. If there is nobody on the yard tocollect a child they will be escorted back to the school and we will attempt to contact a relative or guardian.

Unfortunately there is no parking space for parents on the school grounds and for the sake of the childrens safety we ask kindly that you park outside the school grounds and walk to the yard where you can meet your child.

Our Admission Policy

The Admission Policy corresponds with that of Torfaen LEA Policy.

The Nursery ClassWe accept children into our Nursery (part-time) following their third birthday.

The Reception ClassPupils who live within our catchment area are offered a place in our reception class.If we have room we can accept pupils from outside the catchment area too. These arrangements are the LEA’s responsibility.

Parents who are interested in sending their child to the school are welcome to contact the headteacher, who will be happy, to arrange a convenient time for you to visit the school and ask any questions.

Home School Links

Open and effective communication between the school and the home is essential for the development and welfare of every pupil. Parents can contact the school at any time to discuss anxieties or to make an appointment to see the class teacher or Head Teacher.A copy of our Home-School Agreement is distributed to each family.

Every parent is sent a termly programme noting what his/her child will be doing during the term. A calendar of events and activities is also sent to every home. We consider the educational development of the child to be a process shared between the family and the school.

Equal Opportunities

We strongly believe that every child whatever their gender, race, nationality or ability are treated equally. Throughout all the school’s activities every child will have the opportunitity to take part and through taking part to develop their knowledge, personal skills and pleasure. Every effort is made to ensure that activities and tasks are suitable for boys and girls.Provision will be versatile in order that all pupils reach their potential. A copy of our Equal Opportunities Policy is available to all parents.

Pupils with disabilities

We will endeavour not to discriminate against any pupil with disabilities. They will be treated as all the other pupils and the same admission policy will prevail. Pupils and staff members will be encouraged to treat every pupil equally in line with our Equal Opportunities Policy.

The school building is suitable for pupils with physical disabilities. It is possible to travel around the school without using stairs or steps, and we have one toilet for individuals with a disability, and the school has an accessibility plan.

Disgyblaeth

Ni all ysgol lwyddo heb ddisgyblaeth dda. Mae disgyblaeth Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân yn gryf ond yn deg ac mae’n bwysig i sylweddoli bod rhaid i’r ysgol a’r rhieni weithio mewn partneriaeth er mwyn datrys unrhyw broblemau sy’n codi – ni all yr un ennill heb y llall. Ein nod yma yw meithrin hunan ddisgyblaeth ymhob disgybl gan mai dyma’r ddisgyblaeth fydd yn aros gydag unigolion gydol ei fywyd / bywyd. O dro i dro, bydd pethau’n digwydd a bydd rhaid ceryddu a disgyblu plentyn. Mewn achosion difrifol neu lle mae’r plentyn wedi camymddwyn mwy nag unwaith fe fydd yr ysgol yn cysylltu â’r rhieni gan obeithio cael eu cefnogaeth. Lle y tybir bod unrhyw fath o fwlio yn y cwestiwn delir â’r mater yn syth gan gyfweld â’r plant a chysylltu â’r rhieni yn syth. Discipline

No school can succeed unless discipline is good. At Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân discipline is strong but fair and it is important to realise that the school and parents must work in partnership in order to solve any problems that might arise – one can not succeed without the other. Our aim is to nurture self-discipline in every pupil as it is this that will stay with an individual during his / her lifetime. From time to time things will happen and it will be necessary to discipline a pupil. In serious instances or where a child has misbehaved more than once the school will inform the parents and ask for their support in dealing with the matter. Where bullying of any form is suspected the children involved will be seen and parents contacted immediately. Each child must understand that both school and home have the same standards and that our expectations regarding civilised behaviour are high - namely that a pupil acts responsibly, respects others and is mature in his / her dealings with fellow pupils and adults within and out of school

Attendance

The Education Act states that parents must inform the school by phone call, letter or email giving the reason for any absence, including visits to the doctor or dentist.

Any holidays that are taken during term time will be registered as unauthorised absences.

The Education Welfare Officer visits the school on a weekly basis to look at the registers. 100% attendance a term is rewarded and an attendance of 90% or less is reported to parents as a cause of concern.

Addysg Rhyw

Yn unol â gofynion Deddf Addysg 1986, disgwylir i Gyrff Llywodraethol ysgolion ystyried os dylai addysg rhyw fod yn rhan o’r cwricwlwm. Sex Education

In accordance with the requirements of the 1986 Education Act, School Governing Bodies are expected to consider whether sex education should be part of the school curriculum. Should they wish this to be so they are expected to write and revise a policy statement regarding contents and procedure. The school is aware that teaching sex education is the joint responsibility of both parents and teachers and that a full understanding is required of the role of all involved with the work.

The Governors of this school have decided that sex education should be taught as part of the school curriculum. This forms a part of the schools Personal and Social Education policy which deals with manymatters concerning the development of individuals including Drugs Education.Documentation from Hybu Iechyd Cymru is used together with the BBC resource pack Iechyd A as a guideline for the teaching.

Consideration will be given to individuals in all aspect of the work and during discussions and efforts will be made to be sensitive to each child’s maturity and needs.As a parent you have the right to withdraw your child from Sex Education lessons. Should you wish to do so it is your responsibility to contact the Headteacher.

Pwrpas cyfundrefn addysg yw creu sefyllfaoedd a chyflenwi adnoddau fydd yn galluogi pob plentyn i ddatblygu yn aelod cyfrifol o gymdeithas, yn aelod fydd yn gallu cyfrannu iddi, derbyn oddi wrthi a byw mewn heddwch a brawdgarwch gyda’i gyd-ddyn.

Fel addysgwyr mewn ysgol Gymraeg mae gennym y cyfrifoldeb ialluogi pob plentyn i ddatblygu i’w lawn botensial gan sicrhau eu bod yn cael eu cyflwyno i’r etifeddiaeth Gymreigac yn cael y cyfle iddatblygu yn aelod llawn o gymdeithas sy’n brysur newid. Addysg Bersonol a Chymdeithasol ac Addysg Grefyddol

Ar draws y cyfnodau allweddol sicrheir parhad a dilyniant mewn datblygu sgiliau meddwl, cyfathrebu, TGCh a rhif.

Technoleg Gwybodaeth a Chyfathrebu

Mae 45 o gliniaduron ar gael i’w defnyddio rhwng blynyddoedd 5 a 6 sy’n ddiwifr ac mae deuddeg gliniadur ym mhob dosbarth arall yng Nghyfnod Allweddol 2 gan gynnwys 12 IPAD rhwng Cyfnod Allweddol 2. Ceir troli gyda phymtheg gliniadur rhwng y Cyfnod Sylfaen a 28 IPAD yn ogystal.

Addysg Grefyddol

Nid yw’r ysgol yn dal cysylltiad uniongyrchol a ffurfiol ag unrhyw enwad crefyddol. Mae’r addysg grefyddol a gyflwynir yn seiliedig ar faes llafur yr Awdurdod. Gellir archwilio copi o’r maes llafur hwn yn yr ysgol.

Cynhelir cyfnod o gyd-addoli yn ddyddiol ond gellir gwneud trefniadau ar gyfer plant nad yw eu rhieni am iddynt fynychu’r gwasanaethau crefyddol neu astudiaethau cyffelyb.

Addysg Gorfforol a Chwaraeon

Rhoddir cyfle llawn a chyfartal i bob disgybl i gymryd rhan ym mhob gweithgaredd chwaraeon yn yr ysgol.

Dysgir chwaraeon mewn gwers wythnosol a rhoddir yr un pwyslais ar gymnasteg, dawns, chwaraeon ac athletau. Disgwylir bod y plant yn gwisgo’n addas ar gyfer y gwersi hyn – crys T, trowsus byr ac esgidiau chwaraeon ar gyfer gwersi athletau / chwaraeon, yn droednoeth ar gyfer dawns a gymnasteg.

Bydd y gwersi dawns a gymnasteg yn cymryd lle yn y neuadd a’r gwersichwaraeon ac athletau yn cymryd lle ar yr iard. Bydd disgyblion Cyfnod Allweddol 2 yn defnyddio cae chwarae ysgol gyfagos pan fo’r angen.

Mae pob plentyn yn yr ysgol yn derbyn gwersi nofio am flwyddyn yn ystod eu hamser yn yr Adran Iau. Ceir timoedd pêl-rwyd, pêl-droed, rygbi a chriced yn yr ysgol sydd yn ymarfer ar ddiwedd y prynhawn. Mae’r timoedd yma yn chwarae yn erbyn ysgolion eraill yn y gymuned. Mae’r ysgol hefyd yn cystadlu yn chwaraeon yr Urdd bob blwyddyn ac yng Nghystadleuthau Campau’r Ddraig.

Anghenion Addysgol Ychwanegol

Mae gan yr ysgol bolisi o gyfle cyfartal i’r holl ddisgyblion beth bynnag eurhyw, eu cred a’u gallu. Mae gan bob plentyn yr hawl i addysg eang, gytbwys, gydlynol, perthnasol a gwahaniaethol. Darperir polisi a rhaglen waith ar gyfer plant sydd ag anghenion ychwanegol sy’n cyd-redeg â gweithgarwch y dosbarth a’r ysgol gyfan. Mae cydlynydd AAY yn cydweithio’n agos gyda’r athrawon a’r cynorthwywyr er mwyn cynorthwyo’ disgyblion ac hefyd yn rhoi sylw personol i unigolion yn ystod cyfnodau’r prynhawn.

Trwy ddefnyddio’r Côd Ymarfer ar Adnabod Anghenion Ychwanegol a’u Hasesu, mae’r ysgol yn cydnabod fod yna anghenion addysgol arbennig i’w cael ar draws yr ystod oedran a gallu, a’i hamcanion felly yw rhoi y ddarpariaeth orau i ateb gofynion unigolyn.

Ambell dro bydd gweithgarwch arbennig yn gofyn am wybodaeth gan oedolion neu waith holi a darganfod ar ran y plant. Gofynnwn am gefnogaeth a chydweithrediad y rhieni er mwyn hybu gwaith y plant.

O dro i dro, fe ofynnir i blentyn wneud gwaith ychwanegol er mwyn dileu rhyw wendid neu ganolbwyntio ar agwedd arbennig o’r gwaith. Rydym yn asesu gwaith y plant yn barhaol yn holl bynciau’r cwricwlwm. Cofnodir asesiadau crynodol yn ffeiliau’r plant a throsglwyddir rhain o ddosbarth i ddosbarth gyda’r plentyn. Darperir adroddiadau cynhwysfawr i rieni ar holl raglen waith y disgyblion yn flynyddol Cynhelir asesiadau statudol y Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol ar ddiwedd y Cyfnod Sylfaen a diwedd CA2 ac adroddir ar lefel cyrhaeddiad yn y pynciau craidd cyn diwedd y flwyddyn addysgol.

The Curriculum

The aim of the education system is to create situations and produce resources that will enable each child to develop into a responsible member of society, able to contribute to that society, benefit from it and to live in peace with fellow men.Pupils are taught through the medium of Welsh in the Foundation Phase. In Key Stage 2 formal English lessons are introduced. We actively promote and develop the pupils’ billingual skills to ensure that they are fluent and confident in both languages.

As educators in a Welsh medium school we have a responsibility to enable each child to develop his/her full potential, to ensure that each child is introduced to his/her Welsh heritage and to help him/her develop as a mature member of a rapidly changing society.

General objectives

To develop oral, literary and numerical skills in the context of inspiring the child’s enthusiasm, imagination and interest.

To increase the child’s knowledge and to develop his powers of reasoning in order to assist him to adapt to a rapidly changing world which has more sophisticated processes and techniques, especially so in relation to information technology.

To create in each child the desire to seek further knowledge and experience and to develop his/her mind and his/her moral and spiritual awareness.

To assist the child to live and work with others and to develop attitudes which will enable him/her to become a responsible member of the community.

Revised National Curriculum 2008Skills Framework for 3- 19 year- olds in Wales

The following subjects are included in the national curriculum at key stage 2:

Welsh,English,Mathematics,ICT, Science,Music,Geography, History, Design & Technology, Art & Design,Physical Education,Personal & Social Education and Religious Education.

Throughout the key stages there is a great emphasis on continuity and progression in developing thinking, communication, ICT and number skills.

The aim of the school is to try and ensure that the education provided enhances the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of each pupil and that the nature of the curriculum is varied, broad and balanced. The organisation within the classroom thus needs to be flexible. The children are taught as a class unit in the care of one designated teacher.

The curriculum is planned on the basis of the core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum and the Foundation Phase Framework. Various cross-curricular activities and experiences are provided based on specific themes.

Consideration is given to each child’s ability by the teachers as work prepared is differentiated thus ensuring individual development.In order to ensure an understanding of the work, a variety of teaching methods are used such as individual teaching, pair or group work and class teaching.

The work in the classroom is often reinforced with direct experiences such as visits to historical sites, theatre visits or visits to the school by theatre in education’ companies and guest speakers.

Information Technology

There are 45 wifi laptops for use by Years 5 and 6. There are 12 laptops in each of the other classes in the Junior Department. The pupils also have access to 12 IPADs. In the Foundation Phase the pupils have access to 15 laptops and 28 IPADS.

Religious Education

The school has no direct or formal religious affiliation.The religious education provided is based on the agreed syllabus, a copy of which may be seen at the school.

A session of worship is held every day but suitable arrangements can be made for children whose parents object to them receiving religious instruction or attending religious services.

Physical Education and Games

A full and equal opportunity is given to all pupils to participate in all sporting activities.

Physical Education is taught up to three times a week. Equal emphasis is given to gymnastics, dance, games and athletics. It is expected that the children dress appropriately for these lessons – T-shirt, shorts and training shoes for athletics / games, barefoot for dance and gymnastics.

Dance and gymnastics will take place in the hall, athletics and games will take place on the school yard. The playing field of a neighbouring school is available for us when required.

Every child in the school will receive swimming lessons for one year during their time in the juniors.The school has a netball, football, rugby and cricket team who practise weekly after school and play regularly against the local schools. The school participates in the Urdd games competitions every year.

Additional Educational Needs

The school has an equal opportunities policy for all pupils regardless of sex, belief or ability. All pupils have access to a broad, balanced and differentiated education. The Additional Educational Needs policy has been prepared to run in conjunction with the classroom and school activities. This is the case for statemented children, those with less severe difficulties and children who have exceptional talents.

The SEN co-ordinator work with the teacher in order to support these children as well as giving them individual attention during the afternoon sessions.

By using the Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs, the school recognises that there is a continuum of Special Educational Needs and that these needs are found across the range of ability and endeavours to offer a continuum of provision to meet individual needs.

Arrangements for Additional Educational Needs

Each pupil is regularly assessed in school, and when a teacher sees that a child is experiencing difficulties, parents are consulted. After the consultation and assessment procedure by the school, the pupil will be placed on the Additional Education Register of the school. All this is done in accordance with the Authority Guidelines Booklet in conjunction with the Additional Educational Needs Code of Practice.After placing pupils on the Register, the pupils are placed on various stages as stated below:

SCHOOL ACTION When a class teacher or SENCO identifies a child with AEN the class teacher should provide interventions that are additional to or different from those provided as part of the school’s usual differentiaited curriculum offer and strategies.

SCHOOL ACTION PLUS

A request for help from external services is likely to follow a decision taken by the SENCO and colleagues, in consultation with parents.

Where a request for statutory assessment is made by a school to an LEA, the child will have demonstrated significant cause for concern.

This is a statutory document outlining the needs and provision.

Homework

The children receive homework on a regular basis. Every pupil in Year 1, 2 and KS2 takes a reading book home regularly and reading is also considered to be homework as well as any written work.

Occasionally a particular activity might need information from an adult or might involve a process of interviewing and research. We ask for the co-operation and support of parents in such instances to ensure that the child is given the necessary information.

Sometimes it is felt that a child might benefit from additional work in order to overcome a particular weakness or might need to concentrate on a specific aspect of the work. It might also be the case that an able child migh benefit from some individual investigative work. In such cases we ask for the full support of the home in encouraging the child to complete this work.

Complaints Procedure

The Local Education Authority, in accordance with the requirements of the Secretary of State, under Section 409 of the 1996 Education Reform Act, has established a procedure to consider complaints concerning the way schools’ Governing Bodies and the Education Authorities act in relation to the schools curriculum and other related matters.This

procedure is outlined in a document which is available from the County. A copy will be provided free of charge as required to any parent seeking to make a complaint under these arrangements.

It is emphasised, however that many complaints can be dealt with quickly and effectively by informal consideration based on discussions with the Headteacher. This is the first reasonable step, and the Governing Body would expect that this step would have been taken before formalising the complaint which should be in exceptional cases. An appointment can be made to discuss any complaints with the Headteacher and also to view any curricular related documents.

Assessment

All pupils are assessed continually in all the curriculum subjects. Summative assessments are kept in individual files to be passed on from class to class with the child. A report will be presented to parents annually covering all subject areas. Statutory assessments are given at the end of the Foundation Phase and KS2 and the levels achieved in the core subjects will be reported to parents by the end of the school year.

Ymweliadau Dosbarth

Mae ymweliadau o’r ysgol yn cyfoethogi addysg y plant ac mae’r cyfleoedd i ymweld â mannau y tu allan i’r ysgol yn codi’n rheolaidd. Yn yr achosion hyn, mae angen cludiant ac ar brydiau angen tâl mynediad i wahanol leoedd. Rydym yn ymwybodol o’r baich ariannol sydd ar rieni ac mae’r ysgol yn sicrhau na fydd cost unrhyw ymweliad yn afresymol. Nid oes gorfodaeth ar unrhyw riant i gyfrannu tuag at y gweithgareddau hyn. Pe bai rieni yn dewis peidio cyfrannu rhoddir hawl i’r Pennaeth ddileu gweithgareddau os yw’r gost yn ei barn hi/e yn mynd yn afresymol. Gweithgareddau preswyl

Pan fo gweithgaredd ysgol yn hawlio fod plentyn yn treulio un noson neu fwy oddi cartref mae gan yr ysgol hawl i godi tâl am fwyd a llety. Fel gyda’r gweithgareddau eraill, os gwêl yr ysgol fod cost cynnal y cyrsiau hyn yn ormod o faich ar gronfa’r ysgol rhoddir yr hawl i’r Pennaeth ddileu’r cwrs.Nid yw’r ddeddf hon yn effeithio ar drefniadau gweithgareddau y tu allan i oriau ysgol h.y. cystadlu, teithio ac aros yn yr Eisteddfod neu wersyll Llangrannog ar benwythnos ac yn yr haf.

Charges for educational activities

Following the 1988 Education Act, School Governing Bodies are required to produce a policy regarding charging for school activities. The aims of the new legislation are to:

maintain the right to a free education.

ensure that school activities are available to all pupils, irrespective of the ability or willingness of parents to contribute towards the cost. It is emphasised that there is no statutory requirement to charge for education or relevant activities, but Education Authorities and Governing Bodies are given the right to charge for some activities when required.

confirm the rights of Authorities and Schools to invite voluntary contributions which will benefit the school or in support of any activity arranged – whether during or after school hours.

Instrumental tuition

There is no obligation on the L.E.A. or Governors to provide individual music tuition. Music is one of the foundation subjects and is taught to all pupils. Where instrumental tuition is available the Governors have agreed on a charge of £40.00 a term.

Swimming

It is important for the children to have swimming lessons. We hope to offer weekly lessons for some Junior pupils which are free of charge. The school will be paying the cost of transport to the swimming pool.

Class visits

School visits enrich the children’s education and regular opportunities arise to visit places outside the school. In such cases there is a need for transport and sometimes an admittance fee. We are aware of the financial burden on parents and the school will ensure that costs are kept to a minimum. There is no compulsion on any parent to contribute to these activities. If parents choose not to contribute then the Headteacher has the right to cancel the activity if the cost, in her/hisopinion, becomes unreasonable. If this were to happen regularly then the children’s education would be affected.

Residential Activities

When school activities require children to spend one or morenights away from home the school is entitled to charge for food and accommodation. As with the other activities if the school sees that the cost of holding the course puts too much of a burden on the school budget she/he has a right to cancel the course. This Act does not affect arrangements for activities outside school hours i.e. competing, travelling and staying at the Eisteddfod or visits to Llangrannog at weekends or during the summer.

Car parking arrangements

The safety of the pupils is a priority for all of us and it is for this reason that we ask parents to note that no vehicles other than school buses and staff cars are allowed to park on

school grounds. In the morning we will allow parents to drive into the school and drop their children off by the new pavement.

The gate will be closed after the buses have left the site. In the afternoon the gate will be closed at 3.15pm. The gate will be opened only for buses or taxis during the afternoon.It is possible for parents to park on Henllys Way or Greenmeadow Way but pleaseshow consideration to residents by not blocking driveways and parking on grass verges. During school concerts or evening activities parents may park on the school’s netball court.

School Meals

School meals cost £2.00 for the Infants and £2.10 for the Juniors.

Your child should bring money to school every day a school meal is required. The money should be placed in an envelope stating your child’s name. The money is collected each morning and is then returned to the pupils at lunch time so that they can pay for their meal at the till.If you wish to claim free school meals you can obtain the application form from the school.

Medical Matters

Our school nurse makes regular visits to the school. Her contact number is 01633 623504.At certain stages during each child’s school life their hearing and eyesight tested. Parents will be informed if further treatment is necessary.

If a child is ill or has an accident the parents are contacted immediately unless it is a minor injury/graze which can be treated at school.If a parent wishes school staff to administer medicine to a child, an official consent form, obtainable at the office must be completed and signed before the medicine can be given. School Uniform

The school has an official school uniform and we hope that you will encourage the children to wear it every day. The setting of standards is uppermost in our minds and I am sure you will agree that the wearing of school uniform leads to a pride in the school and this together with good discipline will aid the setting and maintaining of academic standards.

The school colours are red and grey and the school uniform can be purchased from ‘Pretty Miss’ in Cwmbran.

N.B:

Shoes should be black – trainers do not form part of the school uniform. White socks or black/red tights for the girls, grey socks for the boys. ‘Sports’ trousers do not form part of the school uniform. Hair decorations should be red or white. Jewellery other than a watch and stud earrings are not allowed. Hats / Caps or Bandanas are not to be worn inside the school building without the

permission of the Headteacher.

Gweithgareddau Allgyrsiol

Gobeithia’r ysgol sicrhau cydweithrediad a chefnogaeth y rhieni gyda’r holl weithgareddau all-gyrsiol a drefnir. Cynnigir amrywiaeth eang o weithgareddau e.e. chwaraeon, canu a pherfformio, yr Urdd, i holl ddisgyblion yr ysgol sydd ym marn y Pennaeth yn aeddfed ac yn barod i gymryd rhan ynddynt.

Ni all yr ysgol dderbyn cyfrifoldeb am oruchwylio plant ar derfyn sesiynau’r gweithgareddau yma, a gofynnir i rieni sicrhau eu bod yn gwneud trefniadau i gasglu eu plant ar yr amser cywir.

Extra Curricular Activities

The school hopes to ensure the co-operation and support of parents with the extra-curricular activities arranged. A wide range of activities are offered e.g. sport, performing arts and the Urdd, to all pupils who are in the Headteacher’s opinion mature enough to participate.

The school cannot accept responsibility for supervising children at the end of these activities and parents are asked to ensure that arrangements are made to collect their children at the appropriate time.
