The Brooklyn College Journal of International Affairs seeks submissions from all Graduate Students for its 2017-2018 edition. This year’s theme is Borders: Current Global Discourses of Nationalism, Autonomy, and Sovereignty Suggested topics include: Nationalism : Analysis of “America First”/”MAGA” as implemented by Trump; the “Muslim Ban,” U.S./Mexico border “wall” proposal; “Brexit” in the U.K.; the rise of the far-right in Europe. Refugee crisis : Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar; Syria; South Sudan. Separatism : Catalonia; Scotland; Iraqi, Syrian, and Turkish Kurdistan; Puerto Rico. Local implications : Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids; Trump’s policies on DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients; ending TPS (Temporary Protected Status) for Salvadoran immigrants; impacts of these policies on the Brooklyn College and Brooklyn communities in the context of New York City’s status as a “sanctuary city”; We also seek pieces about your own work, activism, and studies. Topics may include study abroad, participation in political groups, or volunteer work during the year.
