Science

Films - The Core!

The core is a brilliant film about the centre of the earth shattering and coming to a halt, causing the earth’s magnetic field to collapse. This leads to chaos in the world that threatens the survival of all living things!

What to do:

1) Draw or make a model of the earth. The key here is to include all the layers of the earth, including the core (centre of our planet!). Try to draw the earth or make the model so that it is cracking from the core!

2) The outer core of the earth is magnetic (because of the metal iron) and is responsible for the electromagnetic field around our planet, protecting us from the sun’s harmful radiation!

Design Technology Films Project: Finding Nemo! Sew these super easy sea creatures with buttons as eyes. A very simple, effective and engaging project.

5 . With your sharp scissors, cut eight legs from the sock opening almost all the way up to the elastic band.

6. Choose a couple of

buttons. Sew these on for eyes. They do not have to match!

Above sea creature fin template scale 1:1

You will need the following:

Polyester toy stuffing

Assorted buttons

Coloured elastic bands

Felt fabric

Craft essentials:

Scissors

Hand sewing needles

Thread

4. To make the octopus– choose a larger sock and stuff the end well with polyester stuffing material. Fasten off with a coloured elastic band-trim the end of the sock.

3. Cut the fins from the felt using your template above and stitch each of these to the top of the back and also one to each underside.

2. Choose two buttons and sew them on for eyes. If you can, sew the buttons on at the same time and draw them in slightly to give the face a shape! (Buttons don’t have to match)

1. To make the fish– choose your sock and stuff it with polyester filling. Fasten off the tail with an elastic band and trim the sock end back to about 4cm

Creative writing taskDraw or write a storyboard of a film you have enjoyed. Choose 6 or more

scenes, showing the story of the film.

Music taskLots of films use sound effects to create noises that add to the effect of the film. Recording

your own sound effects to represent different objects or events – you could watch your favourite film with the sound turned down and create sound effects to match the action in

the film.

Here are some examples of sounds you could recreate – the only rule is that you CANNOT use the actual object to make the sound:

A door banging shut, a creaking stair, thunder and rain, birds singing, the ocean, a train or plane etc.

PSHE taskInside out

This task is related to the film Inside Out!

In the film Riley has 4 worlds inside her mind that make her who she is! I would like you to draw and design the worlds inside your mind who make you who you are.
