Take a look at this image:

You can find the image on the blog or you can pause the video at the correct point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QJ-4pKoBSI&feature=youtu.be

There is a variety of hidden images in this picture. Set a timer for two minutes and write down as many things as you can see (these will be your nouns – naming words), e.g. coat, branches…

After two minutes, choose your favourite 5 words and turn them into noun phrases by describing them, e.g. the red coat with buttons down the front.

In our story, the little boy meets some characters from fairy tales. Listen to these pages again.

Today you are going to write your own page for the book featuring a new fairy tale character.

Role-play meeting another character from a fairy story with your adult, e.g. Cinderella. Think about what the new character would say to the little boy when he/she stops him and what he would say back.

When you have acted it out, write a new page for the book. Try it in the style of the book, e.g. each character the boy meets asks a question first and is still talking as he walks

We have been looking at two ways of using apostrophes in school.

1. For contractions. When we squish two words together we get rid of some of the letters and the apostrophe marks the place the letters would have been, e.g.

I have = I’veHe will = he’llI am = I’mCould have = could’ve

2. For possession. We use an apostrophe to show that something belongs to someone, e.g.

Jack’s dogMatilda’s shoeLilly-Grace’s friend

Try and write some sentences about the book using apostrophes in both of these ways.

Have you ever heard of the word epilogue?

It is a final concluding piece of writing at the end of the book. An epilogue often reveals characters fates or wraps up all the loose ends. Talk about what you think happens after Into The Forest finishes.

Did Mum find out the little boy walked through the forest? How did she feel? Was Dad at Granny’s house the entire time? Do we find out what happened to all the fairy-tale characters?

Write your own epilogue for Into The Forest.

Take a look at this picture of a tree in a forest (a larger picture can be found on the blog):

Imagine the camera zooms out, and you can see the entire tree.

What does the rest of the tree house look like? What does it look like inside? Who lives there?

Draw or write down what you have imagined.

Geography For out topic this week we will be focussing on our Geography learning. We will provide you with some power-points for information as well as some experiments and activities and writing tasks. Please feel free to complete the areas that most interest your child.

First, use the PowerPoint on the blog to guide you in finding out about our environment and then have a go at the comparative experiment to show the effects of greenhouse gases. Can you make a prediction as to what will happen? After you have completed your experiment can you try to explain what happened? What is your conclusion?

Find out about Global Warming – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHMLszamZ9w Can you create a poster to inform people about what they can do to help stop global warming?

Learn about Plastic Pollution – watch this video from the BBC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjIUp6A7GRU and think about what we could do with the plastics we have in our world. How can we help prevent plastics getting into our oceans? Could you write a letter to the Prime Minister with some ideas on what we could do, or maybe design a poster to inform people about steps to take to reduce our use of plastic?

You could watch this Blue Planet lesson https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/live-lessons/blue-planet-live-lesson/zn7tkmn and then see if you can create your own recycled plastic sculpture.
