To begin this lesson, show pupils the In Focus task and provide them with place-value charts and discs or moveable discs on an interactive whiteboard. In pairs, allow pupils time to discuss the problem and prove or disprove the children's statements. Allow them a short time to feed back before modelling using the discs as exemplified in Let's Learn.

Ask pupils to decide where to mark the value on the number line. Where should 1.2 be placed? Is it larger or smaller than 1? How much larger or smaller? In Let's Learn 2, spend time clearly regrouping the 10 tenths into 1 whole. What is the same and what is different about these two values? What do you think we could do with 10 tenths? Have you done anything like this before? Demonstrate regrouping and discuss how the value is the same as in Let's Learn 1. Encourage partners to discuss how we can record the value in different ways with the amount remaining unchanged.

During Guided Practice, pupils are writing the decimal equivalents of tenths. Allow them to work in pairs to discuss and raise any questions before deciding on how to complete the tasks. Remind them that if there are more than 10 tenths, they will have to regroup. Bring the class back together after Guided Practice and invite volunteers to explain the missing values on the number line.

Reading:   LI: To listen and discuss a wide range of poetry and non-fiction (Linked to the war).

Read pages 41-43 on the PDF or pages 78-82 in the book.

It may be helpful to ask an adult to read to you, or you could take a turn reading the pages. Discuss the following questions:How do the other villagers feel about Willie? Why?How have Willie’s feelings changed towards the dog? Why do you think that?   Why do you think Willie is so obsessed with meeting the boy from the post office again?

English: Our Talk for writing text is a flash back story ‘The Piano - My memories’. Please re-read the text and then

learn the third and fourth paragraph continuing the text map.

My MemoriesI’ve been playing the piano since the age of nine. During my lifetime, I’ve played thousands of songs, but this song is the most important. It brings back so many memories.

Only a few years ago, I’d sit here with my wife Joyce; we’d play the song together. We were so happy. I met her at a piano concert. I moved my coat so she could sit down. Before she left, we agreed to meet up, and we were in love from that moment on. In her last few days, she loved to hear me play the piano. I feel happy when I play that song. It feels like she’s sitting next to me.

Going back further, I remember the war when I was a first aider in the army. Once, behind enemy lines, I was covering for the sergeant who said my first aid skills would be useful. Sadly, I had to treat a casualty, but it was the sergeant that needed my help. He died in my arms.

As I play the piano, I can see something that’s precious and holds many memories for me. It was my birthday. I wasn’t expecting any presents. My parents were hardworking but never rich. On my 10th birthday, they handed me a box wrapped in a blue ribbon. Inside was a hobby horse. I’d make-up games, galloping around. Life was so simple.

Playing the piano now, a small boy is running, just as I did. He’s equally as excited by the toy horse as I was all those years ago. My grandson loves hearing the piano too. Even though I’ll grow old and eventually leave this world, the piano, the song and Joyce’s smile will live on.

Project: Research an area of World War 2 – Please complete throughout the week. Create a poster using Microsoft word to showcase what you have found out. Don’t forget to read a book and write it in your reading record.Spellings this week: Once you have learnt your spellings, try to get someone to test you on Friday.
