Lesson Cycle TimeCheck for

Understanding, Questions,

Monitor, and Adjust, and Assessment.

Focus:

T= Begin by having the students sit on the floor. The teacher should lead the students in singing his ABC’s. Next, the teacher will pass out the letter A, B, and C to the student. Ask the student what sound the letter makes and a word that starts with that letter. The teacher will write on the whiteboard the letter A.

L: The student with that card comes to the whiteboard.

T/L: Then the teacher should ask, “What letter is this?” The student will respond according to the letter she points at. Then the teacher will ask, ”What sound the letter makes?” The student should responds with the letter sound.

3 minutes T: Supports learners, extends

answers, leads them to arrive at correct answers.

Instructional Delivery:

T: Explain to the learner the sounds of A, B, and C. Letter sound correspondences should be taught one letter at a time. As soon as the student masters one sound they can move to the next one.

L: Student will listen to the sounds of the letters A, B, and C.

T/L: Demonstrate the YouTube video and show the sounds of A, B, and C. The student will tell the teacher the sounds of the letters one by one to make sure the student understands the sound of the letter.

5 minutes T: Watches encourages

listening to new skill learned and

participation.

Guided Practice:

T: Pass out three index cards along with three different color markers. Each color represents a different letter.

L: The learner should draw an object corresponding to the letter sound.

T/L: As the learner works on his index cards, the teacher will discuss with the student about the letters and the pictures that he has created. Letter sounds and recognition will be reinforced as the teacher communicates with the student.

5 minutes

T: Will walk around the room and help the groups that are

having trouble identifying the

pictures and also ensure all students are participating.

Independent Practice:

T: Teacher will pass out three owls that have on them a question like for example “Whooo starts with an A?”

L: Student will place the corresponding picture to the owl. For example “Whoo starts with an A.” The student should be able to match it with an apple picture.

T: Teacher will check if student matched the corresponding picture to the owl.

10 minutesT: Monitor students and confirm word they found to be

used.

Closure:

T/L: Teacher and student talk about what he liked about the activities done today.
