Our Lady Help Of Christians Term Three 2020 Overview Year Level: Five Teachers: Amelia Mafodda and Domenica Turkowsky Over the term, the children will be working towards the learning outcomes and concepts outlined below. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION God Religion and Life-In this unit students will learn that throughout history people have migrated history to Australia and have brought their faith, traditions and practices which have contributed to the Catholic community. They will also have opportunities to see that over time the Holy Spirit has inspired different individuals, organisations and structures to spread God’s justice and goodness. Prayer Liturgy and Sacrament-Students will explore signs, symbols and rituals relating to the seven sacraments. They will also explore the notion of the sacraments of initiation, healing and service. Opportunities will be given for students to investigate other specific sacraments. The students will see that Catholics celebrate the seven sacraments and they will also research ways the symbols, signs and rituals are used. ENGLISH In Reading, students will continue to develop their comprehension strategies through reading various texts. They will also use a range of strategies to read with fluency, understanding and expression. In Writing, students will be focusing on Explanation texts. They will develop their skills in producing a logical sequenced writing piece that provides information or direction. In Explanation writing, students will also have the opportunity to explain how something works or why something happens. This will specifically be linked to our Inquiry unit as students explore the concepts surrounding ‘Our Scientific World’. In Spelling, students will continue to participate in a program. They will develop skills to spell words that are specifically targeted for their needs. MATHEMATICS In Mathematics, students will... -Use efficient mental and written strategies to solve multiplication and division problems -Use various methods and strategies to show students a range of applications that can be used to solve these types of problems -Explore fractions and decimals so that students can make links between these areas -Use visual resources as well as concrete materials to demonstrate how fractions are parts of a whole or part of a group -Compare, sort and order fractions and decimals and represent them on a number line -Use fractions and decimals to add and subtract -Solve multi-step word problems using specific scaffolds to assist them INQUIRY Our Scientific World Students will learn about Science & Discovery. Our Scientific World

Students will learn about Science & Discovery. VISUAL ART

Whilst learning from home we will move away from the theme of Pop Art and begin to look at Indigenous Art. Term Three will therefore see Aboriginsl artists as the focus. Students will be exposed to the early works as well as modern artists associated with this style. In particular, students will look at the impact of the work of Rosemary Petyarre.

ITALIAN

We are learning how to ask the question “What time is it?” in Italian. We will learn the phrases and expressions used to respond to this question. Students will learn how to say whole hour time, minutes past and phrases used for particular times of day. Students will also be introduced to 24 hour time and its use in Italian culture.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES

In Term 3, we will be using Google Software to create a website about a topic of our choice. We will be combining text, photos and videos as well as using different themes and website structures to make our projects unique.

In the second half of the term, we will be exploring Cyber Safety as we complete units from the eSmart Schools program.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

During Physical Education lessons in Term 3, students refine and expand their range of skills, and perform them with increasing precision, accuracy and control in more complex movements, sequences and games. The sports used to achieve this are football and netball Students use strategic thinking, communication and cooperation to improve performance and participation. When we return on site, they will be required to work in groups, discuss ways to design or modify a simple activity or game, and consider the objective of the game, the playing conditions, the scoring and the rules and procedures for its safe conduct. They reflect on their own and others’ performances, providing appropriate feedback in order to improve skill development and game performance.

LIBRARY

This term in Library lessons the students will continue to build fluency in navigating the library with independence. They will explore a wider range of text types and find similarities and differences within each book. Especially books that have been shortlisted for the 2020 Children's Book Awards. They will explore various illustrator’s and get the

PERFORMING ARTS

Student’s we will be creating and writing musical compositions and performing their music to communicate ideas to an audience. The students will explore a variety of different digital music programs including incredibox, soundtrap which will enable them to further explore their understanding of the elements of music. They will be exploring different genres of music including beatboxing, acapello, electronic and indigenous music and have an understanding of what instruments are particular to these genres.
