Maths

Well done to all over the past two weeks looking at the topic of Money. It was our first time learning a new topic virtually and you all did so well.

This week we are moving on to a new topic. We are going to be beginning to look at Data.

We are going to be looking at pages 124 – 129. I have highlighted the work to be done each day in red.

Monday

We are going to begin with the topic of averages.

To find the average of numbers, you must add all numbers together and divide that number by the

amount of numbers.

Page 10:   · Web viewIf any pupil has any questions regarding their work please don’t hesitate to contact me on class dojo or by my email mshickey19@gmail.com. You can find the suggested

Ex.1: Find the average of these four numbers: 5, 8, 7, 12.

1. 5 + 8 + 7 + 12 = 322. 32 ÷ 4 = 83. Therefore 8 is the average of the numbers.

Ex. 2: Calculate the total amount when the average of 5 children is 167cm.

1. 167 x 5 = 835cm 2. Therefore 835cm is the total amount of the 5 children

Ex. 3: Calculate the average number of passengers carried by an aircraft on 9 journeys when the total number of passengers is 2565.

1. 2565 ÷ 9 = 285 2. Therefore 285 is the average number of passengers carried by an aircraft on 9 journeys.

Today I would like pupils to complete pg. 124 q. 1 + 2 and pg. 125 q. 1 + 2.

Tuesday

Today I would like pupils to complete Work it out pg.125 a, b and c.

I would also like pupils to complete pg.126 q. 1, 2 and 3. I will give an example below how to find the

missing value when given the average of numbers.

Ex. 1: Calculate the missing value. The average of 321, 456, 355 and __ is 370.

1. 370 x 4 = 14802. 321 + 456 + 355 = 11323. 1480 – 1132 = 3484. Therefore 348 is the missing value.

Wednesday

I would like pupils to complete Work it out pg. 127 a, b, c, d,

Thursday

Today I would like pupils to finish work it out pg. 127 and pg. 128 today e and f.

I would also like pupils to look at calculating the extra number when the average increases or decreases. I would like pupils to complete pg.128 q. 1 also. I have an example below.

Page 11:   · Web viewIf any pupil has any questions regarding their work please don’t hesitate to contact me on class dojo or by my email mshickey19@gmail.com. You can find the suggested

Ex.1: The average of 3 numbers is 25. When the fourth number is added, the average is 30. What is the fourth number?

1. 25 + 25 + 25 = 752. 30 + 30 + 30 + 30 = 1203. 120 – 75 = 454. Therefore 45 is the fourth number.

Friday

Finally today the children are going to look at graphs and tables pg.129 q. 1 and 2.

Gaeilge

This week I am going to change it up a little. I would like you to use the following worksheets based on the theme of ‘Around Ireland’ and complete them in your Gaeilge scríobhneoireacht copy. I would like a parent, guardian or siblings to test pupils on their 12 counties on Friday and see how they get on. This links in with the work we did learning the counties of Ireland earlier in the year and where counties are located.

Dé Luain

Today, I would like you to begin looking at the four counties which are the spellings for Monday. You can learn them and write them out in your copy. I would then like you to complete question 1 and 2.

Art

This week I would like pupils to create their own ‘dream catcher’ picture. I would like pupils to create this with their future hopes for secondary school in mind and these can be written around the dream catcher.

I have provided some ideas of other dream catchers. Pupils can use colouring pencils, markers, glitter, gel pens, paint or even other materials like feathers etc. It is complete a personal choice what materials pupils choose to use. I love forward to see what beautiful creations are made.

I would like pupils to continue to say their ‘Hail holy queen’ prayer this week for the month of May.

Well done to everyone that has been really engaging so well with the work that I have been giving over the past few weeks and have been really trying their very best. We only have 5 more weeks of work to go, including this week. All work completed will most definitely help in preparation for secondary school so please try and stay engaged and soon we will be on our summer holidays. Have a lovely week 6th class
