Learning intention: Students will complete a self-analysis of their technique for a particular skill, compared to an elite athlete. The skill must relate to a specific sport (other than netball), e.g. AFL drop punt, volleyball serve, cricket bowl etc. You may present this task in a format of your choice, although a KeyNote presentation is recommended as this may be easiest. Complete the following steps: 1. Using your iPad’s, get a partner to take video footage of you completing a skill. Depending on what skill you are doing, it is usually best to take the footage from a side on angle. Use an app such as Ubersense, CoachMYvideo, Coaches Eye or Slow Mo to do this. 2. Once you have taken your footage, you need to take still images of three different phases. They are: -Preparation: This is the phase before execution to get yourself ready. E.g. the ball toss before a tennis serve, or the run up in a cricket bowl. -Execution: This is the phase where you actually perform the skill. E.g. making contact with the ball in a tennis serve, releasing the ball in a cricket bowl. -Follow through: This is the phase that happens after performing the skill. E.g. bringing the tennis racquet down after a serve or leaning forward and putting the arm around the body after bowling. YR 8 HAPE CAT 1 – VIDEO SKILLS ANALYSIS

Complete the following steps:

They are:

-Preparation: This is the phase before execution to get yourself ready. E.g. the ball toss before a tennis serve, or the run up in a cricket bowl.

3. You now need to access some images/footage of an elite athlete completing the same skill. Capture three freeze frames of the same phases and place them next to yours. Ideally these would be taken from the same camera angle. You could either find still images from that phase, or take your own still images from video footage.

4. Using the elite athlete as a basis, come up with two teaching points for each of the three phases.

5. For each teaching point, write a sentence or two that compares/contrasts your technique with the elite athlete. You could discuss things you are doing which are similar, and/or things which are different.

6. Write an overall summary (about one paragraph), which outlines how you can improve your technique in your chosen skill. This should be realistic and specifically relate to ideas you could actually implement in your PE classes going forward.

Success criteria

I can divide a skill into meaningful phases and identify key teaching points within each phase. I can match the phases of my skill with that of an elite athleteI can reflect on my technique and come up with realistic improvement

Preperation phase :

1. Hold the ball in your preferred hand and balance ball with other hand.

2. Extend your arms up high and line up your throwing arm with the goal ring.

Execution phase:

1. Bend your knees and throwing arm at the same time

2. Keep the ball balanced in the palm of your hand with your fingers spread pointing towards the goal ring ready to shoot.

Follow through phase:

1. Push up starting from your legs.

2. Then continue up through your shooting arm and finally your hand and fingers which are all in line with the goal ring.
