Dear Ones with a Heart for Missions!

For 14 years children have been learning about a specific mission, praying for the mission, and bringing their offerings to meet its needs. Through the LWMS program we call kids c.a.r.e., children learn that they, too, have an important role in sharing the good news.

Slide #3 What does the c.a.r.e. stand for?

The c.a.r.e. stands for “care about reaching everyone…” (Note: security issues this year.)

As of the collection due date of May 25, 2019, 14 years of kids c.a.r.e. project offerings total $744,790.05. We know who to thank and honor!

Slide #4 How are children learning about the project each year?

Experienced teachers write two sets of lessons, one for younger children and the other for older ones. More and more Lutheran elementary teachers, early childhood centers, Sunday schools, home-school parents, and VBS directors report using the lessons, adapting them as needed. The lessons also make great family devotions.

If you want a potent way to teach children the joy of giving, make a kids c.a.r.e. offering box and put it in a visible place. Give thanks to the Giver of every blessing each time a child drops his or her token of thanks inside.

Slide #5 Indonesia: Early Childhood Education

Today we are launching our 15th kids c.a.r.e. project. Let me introduce you to the project called “Indonesia: Early Childhood Education.”

Slide #6 Where is Indonesia?

Where is Indonesia? This map shows the neighboring countries of the Indonesian Archipelago which is made up of 17,508 to 18,309 islands.

Slide #7 Bodies of water and population

The island country is surrounded by the Indian and Pacific oceans, numerous seas, straits, and gulfs. This is the fourth largest nation in the world after China, India, and the United States of America.

Slide #8 Challenges

Besides the challenges posed for a nation of about 18,000 islands, there are the additional challenges of more than 300 languages spoken and over 500 tribes or ethnic groups in this one nation.

Slide #9 Recognized faiths

There are six recognized faiths: Islam 87%, Hinduism 2%, Buddhism .75%, Confucianism .05%, Protestant 7%, Catholic 3%, and the remaining .20% is unknown.

Slide #10 Partners

Gereja Lutheran Indonesia (GLI) was accepted into fellowship with WELS soon after the turn of the century. Our involvement is to assist our sister synod. Gratitude of GLI runs deep to the Giver of all good gifts, including for the partnership with WELS in reaching out with the good news.

Slide #11 Humanitarian aid

Kingdom Workers has committed manpower to help GLI with efforts to build bridges via humanitarian assistance. Such aid includes health seminars, clean water projects, dispensing eyeglasses, assisting with preschools, and organizing reading gardens. Christian Aid and Relief also brings aid to flood and earthquake victims, and many others in great need.

Slide #12 Assistance

For several years a GLI member has been working with Multi-Language Publications to translate, write, publish, and disseminate materials. A Kingdom Worker representative is also partnering to translate materials for children of all ages. Because there are more than 300 languages, the chosen language for translating, writing, and publishing is Bahasa Indonesia.

Slide #13 Theme passage and gifts

Our theme Scripture passage this year is: “Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples” (Psalm 26:2,3).

The overall goal with this new project is to provide training and materials to establish a childhood education program to afford a natural bridge to the good news for young families in Indonesia.

Slide #14 What can you do?

Encourage your school, early childhood center, Sunday school, and Pioneer group to be a part of this outreach program for children. Two WELS teachers have written three days of lesson plans at two levels of instruction. The lesson plans were adapted and expanded from the WELS usual school curriculum, so they can be easily integrated with lessons already being taught during the school year.

Use the lesson plans for your own family devotions. Grandparents, you can participate in this project with your grandchildren. Anyone can use the lesson plans and other materials in ways that work for them. At our kids c.a.r.e. display, pick up a free DVD loaded with materials including: a poster, promotional letter, trifold brochure, and a template for making offering boxes. (After convention, go to www.lwms.org for all the information.)

Petition for his blessings on the program and on those who will use the funds to reach out with the good news.

Slide #15 Goals for kids c.a.r.e

We appeal to the Almighty that each year he will increase the number of congregations using this LWMS outreach program designed for children. We need YOU to share this program information. We'd like kids c.a.r.e to help shape the hearts, minds, and souls of our children to be outreach-minded all their lives.

Through this program we ask him to teach our children to really CARE about sharing the good news with others because someone CARED enough to share the good news with them. Through this program we implore him to lead our children to consider full-time public ministry as a shepherd, teacher, or staff minister of his flock. Will you partner with us in this endeavor?

Slide #16 Opportunities growing up

Our children have an opportunity to grow up with a much broader understanding of The Great Commission through the outreach of WELS by being involved in kids c.a.r.e projects like our project for this year called “Indonesia: Early Childhood Education.”
