Monday 13th May 2013

A Child's Prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

0 Virgin Mary, My Mother. I give to your Immaculate Heart, my body and my soul, my thoughts and my actions.

I want to be what you want me to be, and do just what you want me to do.

I am not afraid because you are always with me. Help me to love your Son,

Jesus, with all my heart and above all things.

Take my hand in yours so I can always be with you.

Amen.

We welcome Fr Dariusz Jablonski, to our Parish community

We would also like to welcome into our school community two new staff members

who commenced working with us late in Term 1. Mrs Van Der Koogh is working in the Year 1/2 area and Miss Graham is working in the Prep area. Welcome all!

NEW WEBSITE!Sacred Heart School now has a new Website. You can find it at:www.shmorwell.catholic.edu.au Our newsletters will be uploaded on it as will the Michael Grose articles. Also be sure to check on the Calendar as this will be updated weekly. Many thanks go to Mrs Farmer for setting it up.

BABY NEWSIt is with much excitement that we announce two of our staff members are expecting babies later in the year. Mrs Schembri is due in September and Mrs Mendez is due in November. Congratulations to both families.

SCHOOL PRODUCTIONExciting news, auditions have begun for our school production of “SUPERKIDS”.We welcome Mr Lawrie Fildes to our school community who will be the Director. Please see the attached form if you would like to be involved or can help out in any way.

HEALTH @ SACRED HEARTPlease be sure to pack a healthy lunch and snack for your child, along with a bottle of water. Lots of fruit, vegetables, breads and cereals are great. They’re easy to eat, and easy to digest. Any wrappings or bags will be returned home.

As the cooler weather sets in it is very important to eat nutritious foods to keep our bodies as healthy as possible to fight off the cold and flu bugs. If your child gets sick, please let the school know. It is advisable to keep your

child at home until they are well enough to cope with the school day and also so as not to spread infections to other children and adults at school. When they are well enough, please send them back to school. It is important to strike a balance between staying at home when sick and being at school. Washing your hands is the best way to stop germs from spreading. Think about all of the things that you touched today — from the telephone to the toilet. Maybe you blew your nose in a tissue and then went outside to dig around the dirt.Whatever you did today, you came into contact with germs. It's easy for a germ on your hand to end up in your mouth. Think about how many foods you eat with your hands. You can't wear rubber gloves all day long, but you can wash your hands so those germs don't get a chance to make you or someone else sick. When germs go down the drain, they can't make anyone sick.

On Monday the 29th of April our Sacred Heart teachers travelled to theCatholic Education Office (CEO) in Warragul for a day of intense learningand discovery. We have been selected along with many other schools from ourdiocese to receive additional support from the CEO to improve our outcomesin reading throughout the school. On the day we discussed the need for goalsfor both students and teachers and then how to implement a plan to achieveour goals. The staff will attend six days at the CEO over the year and will

also be supported within the school by highly trained specialists that willvisit regularly. Improving reading outcomes is a high priority at SacredHeart in 2013 and this extra work over the course of the year fits in perfectly with our needs at this point in time. We are excited by the challenges and achievements that await us during the 2013 year.Upcoming school closure days are:Thursday 30 May, Monday 22 July and Monday 14 October.Regards,Jeanne Mendez

ENGLISH ON LINE ASSESSMENTS

This week the teachers in the junior area (prep – 2) have been assessing their students using English on Line (EOL). This is an online assessment that includes assessing word knowledge, reading, comprehension and writing. The students are interviewed individually and it usually takes about 30 minutes to complete. The information that we are able to gather through this assessment is important for the teaching that is to follow in the classroom. If you would like any further information on this assessment make an

appointment to speak to your child’s teacher or myself. Jeanne Mendez

o Help children develop the vital road-crossing skills they will need as they become mature pedestrians

o Reduce the car dependency habits that are being created at an early age and which will be difficult to change as children become adults
