Afterschool Services would like to thank the families, students and staff for spending an evening with us “clownin’ around,” learning and having fun! Sparkie da’ Clown and her friends put on some wonderful skits, stuck around for face- painting and balloon animals. Both principals were there, in fact Mrs. Laura O’Quinn popped the popcorn and she and her two boys joined in on the fun. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Sparkie and her friends. To access Sparkie’s website go to http://www.jackienewton.com/index.html . After enjoying popcorn, refreshments and the clown performance, PASS students at Dogwood, had six different stations that they could visit with their families. Face-Painting and Balloon Animals were popular but the learning games were just as fun. Students took tiny pom poms and tossed them into solo cups. The cups had vowels, consonant blends and digraphs and once you landed your pom pom into the cup you had to generate a word (and/or spell it) that started with that sound. Students cut out number cards at another station and created their own “take-home” math game…”Under the Big Top…Top-It.” It’s a competitive card game that reinforces varied math skills such as number sense, addition and subtraction facts and place value. Another station focused on double facts in addition and allowed students to throw bean bags into holes. November 15, 2012

Students cut out number cards at another station and created their own “take-home” math game…”Under the Big Top…Top-It.” It’s a competitive card game that reinforces varied math skills such as

number sense, addition and subtraction facts and place value. Another station focused on double facts in addition and allowed students to throw bean bags into holes.

The final station was the “clown photo booth” which was enjoyed by all. Students received a 4X6 picture of themselves as clowns.

Fun was had by all!!!
