Weekly Phonics Tasks (Aim to do 1 per day)

Weekly Reading Tasks (aim to do 1 per day).

Daily phonics – go over digraphs – th, sh, ch, ng and blend words. This can be oral blending (e.g. spoken out loud sh-i-p) or written if appropriate. Interactive games here and here

The consonant and vowel digraphs they need to be learning are here these will be on the learning pack every week for your child to learn over the next few weeks

Use magnetic letters or letters on cards to play FULL CIRCLE with the list below – only changing one

Listen to the story of the Hare and the Tortoise find a Youtube cartoon of it here. Discuss how the characters are different and what the story is trying to teach us.

You can create a free account at Oxford Owl This will allow you child to access free e-books they can read. Try the age group 4-5 as this will give you a variety of e-books for your child to practise reading.

sound at a time to make the new word. Get a grown up to say the word - can you hear which sound to change? Start with spelling SHIP and off you go!

Play phonics noughts and crosses. Draw out a grid and write a digraph (sh, th, ch, ng, ai, ee, ea, oi, oo) in each part of the grid.

Take it in turns to name what is written in the grid. If you say it correctly you can add your nought or cross in that square.

language development. Encourage your child to tell you

stories about random pictures. It doesn’t matter whether you use a family photo or turn to an advertisement in a magazine. Simply ask your child to tell you who the characters are, what they are doing and why they are doing it. Assure them there is no right answer; it’s a story from their imagination. You can model by telling a story of your own.

Learning Project - to be done throughout the week

For our project this week please can you chose 2 activities to do throughout the week

Animals live in lots of different places. Can you draw/paint on paper or on JIT MIX on Hwb add a new page for each animal - one animal for each different place - at home, on a farm, in the zoo, in the ocean, in the forest and in the arctic. Can you overwrite/copy/sound talk the name of the animal next to it.

Play animal charades- Take it in turns to act as different animals. Add in noises as a clue.

Sort different animals into feature groups – animals that have tails, animals that have 4 legs, animals that are one colour/stripy/spotty. Can you think of any other ways to sort animals?

Find all of the animal books in your house- Ask your child to look through the books in your house and to find any with animals on the front cover. Ask them to sort the books into groups of their choice e.g. animals that can fly, swim, big, small, live on a farm/ at the zoo.

Create an animal den- Provide your child with blankets and sheets to make an animal den. Act out being an animal in the den.

Choose a soft toy animal or small animal figure and create a junk modelled container for it.

Take part in a BBC podcast dance to the Hare and the Tortoise story – find it here to download.

Sing some animal related nursery rhymes together – perform old ones and learn some new ones! You’ll find a lovely selection here
