Year 1/2 Overview – Autumn 1 Our core story is: Wild by Emily Hughes Please do not read this at home with your child until the end of the half term so your child can enjoy hearing the story unfold in class. We will be learning: In Science, we will be learning to identify, name and classify different plants and animals. We will also be learning about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. In Geography we will be discussing the differences between forests and towns. We will also be learning about changes and weather across the four seasons. In DT we will be making a weather station. In Art, we will be sketching and using different media to make trees. In PE our topic is sending and receiving. We will be using a variety of equipment in order to master the skills. In RE, we will be learning about co-operation and solving some practical challenges. In Computing, we will be re- introducing DB Primary. The children will have the opportunity to read and write on the class blog. At home you could: Go outside and look for different plants and animals. Can you find out any information about the things that you find in books or on the internet? Can you sort the things that you find into groups? Find out some information about forests and towns. What is different about them? Can you write a list of differences? Make a tree using any art and craft materials or construction kits that you have at home? Log on to DB Primary. Key Maths skills for your child: Learning the numbers to 20 (Year 1) and 100 (Year 2) and understanding the place value of those numbers. Addition and subtraction, including using money to 20 (Year 1) and 100 (Year 2). Key English skills for your child: Asking and writing questions about a character.
