COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills If you are considering developing your counselling skills for use in helping relationships the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills would be an ideal place to start. This course (or an equivalent) is the foundation requirement for entry on to our certificate and/or diploma programme.

Course structureTo complete the course the student will be expected to complete the following:

· 4 interdependent modules of 30 hours of training. · Maintain a minimum attendance record. · 4 Assignments.

Entry requirement There is no formal entry requirement for entry on to module 1 this course. Applicants for modules 2-4 must have completed the preceding modules. We can consider acknowledgement of prior learning (APL).

Attendance Students are expected to attend 100% of the course and no less than 85% of each individual module.

Course fees The cost of the entire programme is £1,200 (inc VAT) and this is delivered over a series of 4 taught modules at a cost of £300 per module (inc VAT). Students need only commit to one module at a time. A non-refundable deposit of £50 is required on approval of your application.

Eligible students can apply to SAAS for a Part-Time Fee Grant of up to £402 towards their tuition fees. Please refer to the SAAS website for further details h ttp://www.saas.gov.uk/forms_and_guides/part_time.htm

1. Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Interventions (CertCBI)

This is our entry level CBT qualification which is intended for people already in a guidance role e.g. counsellors, teachers, ministers/priests, CPNs, GPs, social workers, allied health professionals and other support workers in various fields. Our CertCBI course provides introductory training in dealing a wide range of issues, including low mood and depression; stress, worry and anxiety; self-esteem, self-worth and self-acceptance.

Course Structure Students are introduced to a structured way of working to help their clients understand and approach presenting challenges within the systems model of CBT. To complete the course students will be expected to complete the following:

· 2 modules amounting to 120 hours of training · 20 hours of placement

Entry requirements Prior successful completion of the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills course.

Attendance Students are expected to attend 100% of the course and no less than 85% of each individual module.

Course fees The cost of the course is £2,300 (inc VAT). Tuition fees can be repaid by a pre-agreed payment plan if required.

2. Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (DipCBT) The aim of the DipCBT programme is to equip students with the range of knowledge and skills necessary to work with clients as CBT counsellors / psychotherapists.

Students will develop a critical understanding of the scientific and theoretical underpinnings of CBT for common mental health disorders. We believe that theory and practice are intertwined, and we aim to enable participants to critically explore this link.

The DipCBT programme aims to equip students with the core competencies to practise CBT, and to provide the appropriate training to progress towards accreditation with COSCA, BACP or BABCP as Cognitive Behavioural Therapists.

Students will be expected to complete the DipCBT programme with a high level of skill, ethical understanding, and have the necessary self-awareness to begin a career in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Entry requirement

Applicants will normally have a degree and have successfully completed the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills (or an equivalent) to gain entry onto our DipCBT programme. We will consider equivalent prior learning if appropriate.

Attendance

Students are expected to attend 100% of the course and no less than 85% of each individual module.

Programme structure Our DipCBT programme comprises 6 modules as follows:

• Foundations of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy • Human Development and Depression: A Cognitive Behavioural Perspective • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Anxiety Disorders • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating and Addictive Disorders

Beyond the Basics of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: Recent Developments in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

• Skills Consolidation in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Clinical placement hours Students are required to undertake a minimum of 100 individual clinical practice hours, 2 client case studies and 12 hours of psychoeducational group work.

Clinical supervision There are 18 hours of individual clinical supervision included in the fees.

Course fees The cost of the entire programme is £7,200 (inc. VAT). Fees can be repaid by a pre-agreed payment plan if required. An initial non-refundable deposit of £300 is required once we offer you a place on the programme.

Certificate in Counselling Supervision: COSCA validated This course is aimed as counselling practitioners qualified to diploma level or counselling skills users with at least a certificate in Counselling Skills. There are two exit levels, Certificate in Counselling Supervision Skills or Certificate in Counselling Supervision.

Aims • To introduce participants to the essential theoretical concepts of counselling supervision. • To introduce practice skills essential to supervision. • To provide participants with an opportunity to practice these skills in a safe and supportive environment. • To set these skills and theory within an ethical framework. • To increase personal growth and self-awareness as pertinent to counselling supervision. • To provide a suitable foundation for possible further training in supervision.

1. Certificate in Counselling Supervision Skills: This is designed for those who complete the 12 Units and submit one written assignment (the transcript and analysis). Such individuals are probably not acting as supervisors and trained to less than Diploma Level.

2. Certificate in Counselling Supervision. This is designed for those who complete the 12 Units and the transcript assignment and who also, in addition: • Complete a minimum of 12 hours as a supervisor with not less than 2 supervisees and not more than four. • Be supervised for their hours as a supervisor at a ratio of not less than 1: 6. That is a minimum of two hours supervision of their supervision is required. • Complete a case study of 2000-2500 words based on the work with supervisees. • Submit a supervisors’ report on the work carried out with supervisee for the case study.

Course fees: The cost of the entire programme is £620 (inc VAT). Fees can be repaid by a pre-agreed payment plan if required. Attendance requirement: The minimum attendance is 11 out of 12 units to be considered for certification. Please note that Units 11 and 12 MUST be attended by those wishing to complete the Certificate in Counselling Supervision.Award COSCA’s Counselling Supervision Skills Certificate (10 scqf credits at level 9). or COSCA’s Counselling Supervision Certificate (15 scqf credits at level 9).

The Scottish Qualifications Framework Benefits • Helps learners decide how to progress their learning. • Helps employers understand different types of qualifications and also supports effective workforce development.

How does it work? By using two measures, the level of a qualification or learning programme and the number of credit points awarded, the Framework helps you understand and compare the various Scottish qualifications. The level of a qualification indicates the level of difficulty and the number of credit points indicates the length of time it takes to complete. One SCQF credit point represents an average of 10 hours of learning time.
