About the Department

The Department of Communities’ mandate is fundamentally about providing pathways to individual, family and community wellbeing. The Department’s functions and services include disability services; child protection and family support; social and affordable housing; community initiatives and remote regional services reform.

Role StatementThis position coordinates the development and administration of the Department's websites and expands the use of web related technologies across multiple platforms. Works within and advises on Departmental corporate communications policies and procedures in relation to websites. Develops, edits and provides advice and expertise to deliver timely and high-quality digital content both internally and externally. Collaborates and liaises with multiple internal and external key stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Shapes and manages strategy

1.1 Supports the development and implementation of general communications and website strategies, initiatives and projects.

1.2 Understands strategic objectives, website trends and factors that may influence work plans and goals.

1.3 Contributes to the development and delivery of wide range of corporate communication and website specific policies and procedures.

2. Achieves results

2.1 Develops, maintains and manages website content in accordance with communications strategies and governance protocols.

2.2 Utilises and provides specialist advice on existing leading edge and emerging digital and web technologies to maximise engagement with identified audiences, including search engine optimisation.

2.3 Utilising search engine analytics and other tools to report on key digital measurement dimensions and provide ongoing analysis of website performance.

3. Builds productive relationships

3.1 Maintains an effective and up-to-date network of specialist and general communications and relevant industry contacts.

3.2 Consults and shares information with team members and seeks input from others, ensures others are kept informed.

3.3 Works collaboratively with the Manager, team and external consultants to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to communications and website management across the Department.

Essential Work-Related Requirements (Selection Criteria)1. Well-developed understanding of corporate communications with demonstrated

experience in website management and coordination including the use of multiple content management systems.

2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in website development including developing digital strategies, creating and implementing digital content for intranet and internet, search engine optimisation, search engine marketing and website analytics.

3. Demonstrated, highly-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to research, write and edit a range of materials including communication strategies, website strategies and content.

4. Well-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to establish and cultivate strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including executives of all levels.

5. Demonstrated well developed conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills in the context of the development and implementation of communications programs and website projects.

6. Demonstrated experience in the Adobe Creative Suite.

7. Demonstrated, well-developed time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet concurrent deadlines.

Desirable Work-Related Requirements (Selection Criteria)1. Possession of, or progress towards, a relevant tertiary qualification in

Communications/Media, Journalism/Public Relations or equivalent

Essential Eligibility Requirements / Special Appointment Requirements 1. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory National Police Clearance.2. Candidates possessing international qualifications must provide assessment by

the Overseas Qualification Assessment Unit (OQU) from Department of Workforce Development and Training WA or OQU assessment from another state for approval as an equivalent by the Executive Director, Department of Commerce.

3. Available to attend offsite meetings outside of normal working hours.
