Division: Chapter 13, Lesson 1: grouping equally. (60 mins)Learning Intention: To be able to understand how to divide even numbers into equal groups using concrete materials; to be able to determine how many groups will be created from sharing equally. USING CONCRETE MATERIALS WILL BE USEFUL WITHIN THIS LESSON.

1.

Show your child 8 real objects (cans of soup, counters, flowers, pens, books). Tell them a number story about needing to place 2 of each object into separate boxes and trying to figure out how many boxes you will need. Let them explore and manipulate the objects to solve the problem. You can repeat this using objects from the ‘Let’s Learn’ (see below). Ask: what about putting 2 objects into some of the boxes, is this alright, why/why not?

It is important that they recognise that sharing equally is necessary, for example if one box gets 2 cans, all the boxes must get 2 cans.

Reading for pleasure (30 mins).

English: 60 mins Writing: To write a description of the wolf. Please note: children should be saying their sentences out loud and then writing them down. Additionally, if children need extra support with composing sentences please do support them with scribing (if you can). However, children should be sounding out all words and thinking of their own ideas for this job. Using the model text to help, write a description about the wolf from our model text. Remember to use adjectives and even similes (for example, his teeth are as sharp as swords or his fur was black like coal). Think about: What adjectives could be used to describe the wolf from our instruction text?Is it be a good wolf? A bad wolf? Explain that we need to think about our use of words now because there are better words we can be using other than, ‘good’ or ‘bad’. These words are called synonyms these are words that mean exactly or nearly mean the same thing as another word.

Children should write a detailed description of the wolf. Below I have given some examples that the children can of course use! Synonyms for bad: evil, cruel, wicked, scary, mean, cunning.

Synonyms for good:gentle, nice, scared, kind, caring, friendly.

Reading: Please read and answer the following questions:
