•Units of measurement were among the earliest tools invented by humans. Primitive societies needed rudimentary measures for numerous tasks such as: constructing dwellings of an appropriate size and shape, fashioning clothing, or raw materials.•Length is a measurement of distance or dimension. The two main systems to measure length are the metric and the English system.•We need frequent and repeated opportunities to practice and apply measurement.
10 millimeters (mm) = 1 centimeter (cm)10 centimeters(cm) = 1 decimeter (dm) = 100 millimeters (mm)10 decimeters (dm)= 1 meter (m)= 1000 millimeters (mm)10 meters (m) = decameter (dam)10 decameters( dam)=1 hectometer (hm) =100 meters (m)10 hectometers=1 kilometer(km) = 1000 meters (m)
Task 1. Find the MIO system total layout in km, hm, dam and m. Justify your answers.
Task 2. Help a friend from Bogota to learn about the MIO . Make chart to explain the measurement of the pre-trunk in m, dam, hm. Make a chart to explain your
answers.
Remember the pre-trunk has 78 km.
Task 3. Your new friend is at school with you, and he needs to go to Cosmocentro. Help him find two different options (MIO routes) to get there. Remember to explain him the number of the different routes he can take in each case. Which is the best route and why? Explain your answer (2 routes) in a complete and complex way.
Task 4. Your new friend from Bogota made many trips around the main trunk. He needs to complete the following chart to find out the distance he traveled:
TRIPS DISTANCES (IN km)

Remember to use charts, summary tables, or other organizing structures to justify your answers. You can visit the following web sites to complete your work:

There are four primary units used for length or distance: kilometers (km), meters (m), centimeters (cm), and millimeters (mm).
1000 meters = 1 kilometer100 centimeters = 1 meter10 millimeters = 1 centimeter
Task 5. Think and answer the following questions:When are km, m, cm, dam used? Example._________________ are used for very long distances. Choose the appropriate units to measure:
a) the length of objects such as eraser, pencil or book,b) the length and height of your teacher’s table,c) the length and width of your classroom,d) the heights of your friends,
Remember…..
Your work must be very neat, complete, attractive, good written introduction.
Imagination and creativity must evident. You must print your project and hand it in
on time.
