Nonprofit organizations face unique challenges when it comes to running large, multi-faceted operations.

At Weaver, we understand the complexities you face running a nonprofit that can affect hundreds or thousands of individuals while protecting and growing the funds that help you meet your mission. As a full-service firm, we have a range of services to respond to your needs.

No matter the service, we customize an affordable, focused, technology-driven, risk-based, “no surprises” methodology for each client. Our service approach emphasizes timely and responsive communication, as well as technical skills and deep knowledge of nonprofit auditing requirements.

Assurance Our financial statement audit approach is risk-based and involves a planned and proactive process. We identify potential areas of risk that could lead to material misstatement of the financial statements. A key component in evaluating audit risk is obtaining an understanding of the client’s internal controls, capabilities and personnel qualifications, as well as gaining knowledge of the operations and accounting processes. This level of understanding enables us to perform a thorough, efficient and effective audit, and allows us to provide value-added recommendations to management.

Tax At Weaver, we think tax compliance and planning should do more than just meet filing deadlines and help eliminate unpleasant tax surprises. We’ll untangle the intricacies of federal tax laws to uncover and plan for tax opportunities your organization can use to achieve its financial goals. Weaver provides tax planning, tax return preparation and IRS representation services for nonprofit organizations throughout Texas. We also work with finance leadership to identify areas of tax exposure, such as unrelated business income; consult on fundraising rules and lobbying restrictions and provide assistance with grant applications.

Risk Advisory Services The most successful organizations are those that manage risk, governance and internal control exceptionally well. It’s more strategic than simply navigating uncertainty in an evolving regulatory environment. When carried out effectively, these key processes not only mitigate risk but also enhance performance. Weaver’s risk-based, no-surprises approach has been helping nonprofits translate complex information into knowledge, and knowledge into decisions. Every day, Weaver’s risk advisory services team provides consulting services such as:

Business continuity planning Business process improvement Contract monitoring and

compliance Forensic investigation Internal audit IT audit

Organizational assessment Performance auditing and

measurement Risk assessment Service Organization Controls

(SOC) reporting

COMMUNICATION There should never be surprises at any point during an engagement, and we believe the way we stay connected and communicate with our clients is a true differentiator. In addition to our initial planning meetings, we also regularly communicate throughout the engagement to ensure that you are fully informed of any material findings or other significant information in real time.

COST CONTROL

ACCESSIBILITY

EDUCATION

We understand the importance of controlling costs, especially for nonprofit entities. We also know you don’t want to sacrifice quality in favor of cost effectiveness. That’s why we focus keenly on keeping budgets true to estimates and timelines on track.

As a Texas-based firm, our focus is local and our technical resources are close, which is by design. Not only have we invested in permanently staffing seven major Texas markets but we also handle decisions locally, which creates efficiencies for clients.

When you face unusual or complex transactions and situations, we encourage you to bring them to our attention. We can review transactions throughout the year to save you time during the engagement. We also work with you to help you understand how new accounting standards affect the organization, and provide insight to industry-specific issues and emerging trends.

Annually, Weaver provides a robust day CPE-accredited public sector education. From industry updates to emerging trends, we offer different tracks so you can customize your day of CPE to your most critical needs. Additionally, upon request, we are also pleased to bring CPE-accredited education to your staff on specific topics of interest.

In running a large, complex nonprofit, you have so much more at stake than budgets and compliance.

That’s why the service you receive from Weaver’s team is never commodotized, but rather holistic and highly customized to your particular needs. As a foundational step in every engagemenet, we work to establish strong relationships so we can learn about your organization and your particular issues. This helps us tremendously to tailor the engagement, addressing your specific requirements and responding to your individual needs.

There are many elements of a service approach that contribute to building quality relationships. Some include:

TEXAS OFFICE LOCATIONS

As the largest accounting firm based in the Southwest, we have long been dedicated to serving the specific needs of complex nonprofit organizations.

Founded in Fort Worth 1950, Weaver has 64 years of experience providing professional services to organizations throughout Texas and beyond. Today, we have more than 500 team members, including 70 partners, working in seven offices across Texas, as well as operations in California, Colorado and Connecticut.

A nationally recognized leader in the accounting profession, Weaver is:

Named to Inside Public Accounting’s “BEST of the BEST Firms” list

Ranked as one of the top-50 accounting firms in the U.S. according to Inside Public Accounting

Ranked among the top 50 firms in Accounting Today’s top 100 firms list

Serving the nonprofit sector is a major focus for Weaver. Today, we serve approximately 330 nonprofit organization clients across, and more than 30% of our firm’s audit revenues originate from work performed for public sector entities.

Peer Review The firm participates in the American Institute of CPA’s peer review program. Every three years, the firm engages an independent accounting firm to determine if our quality control policies and procedures are suitably designed, and if our techniques for implementing these policies and procedures comply with professional standards. We received our latest peer review report in 2013.

Firms can receive a rating of pass, pass with deficiency (ies), or fail. Weaver received a pass rating, with no letters of comment — the highest grade possible. In fact, Weaver has received unmodified reports on all our peer reviews to date. We have received no letters of comment on our last four consecutive peer reviews — an uncommon achievement in the industry, which underscores our commitment to quality. Each peer review has included a review of governmental audit engagements as required by AICPA standards.
