Approximate distance: 9.5 milesA walk through Barmouth harbour and up into to the hillsides above the Mawddach Estuary.

1. Morfa Mawddach train stationWe started at the station on the South side of the estuary so had the thrill of walking over the railway bridge into Barmouth.

Trains pass by you very closely!

4. Panorama WalkIn Victorian times this was opened up as a pleasure garden with teas for sale.

The Mawddach estuary lies below you with Cader Idris forming the backdrop.

2. Barmouth Harbour Explore the harbour and Carrera statue which used marble recovered from the ‘bronze bell’ shipwreck. Nearby is the circular jail where ‘loose women’ were kept.

5. Barmouth slabsThe rocks are popular with climbers.

Follow Gellfawr farm track and look for old mine workings to the left. Head down over Bwlch y Llan to Cerrig Arthur.

3. Dinas OleuThis was the first piece of land to be given to the National Trust back in 1895. Look for Auguste Guyard’s gravestone.

He grew medicinal plants and herbs for the poor.

6. Cerrig Arthur stone circleKeep your eyes peeled for this ancient stone circle.

An ancient wishing well lies ahead on the left which promises to bring you the partner of your dreams.

7. The Sword StoneLocated in a clearing in the woods this was thought to have been caused when Arthur threw his sword hard against the rocks.

The map grid reference is 643 199.

8. The milestoneThis is the old carriageway to Harlech and marks the crossroads between the seasonal routes.

Head into the valley to pass via the goldmine or cut across the valley higher up.

9. Penmaenpool – The endArrive at the main road at Taicynhaeaf where you can catch a bus back to Barmouth.

We went across the private toll bridge back to Morfa Mawddach.
