*1.Why Microsoft will beat Google in the enterprise cloud war

Page 35: We like project

* Microsoft, for example, is winning over large enterprises that already have massive workforces on Office 365

* Microsoft Office 365 gives IT more options and controls* Office 365 customers have

more options when it comes to licensing for apps and data that will be hosted by Microsoft partners;

* access to the platform in a shared environment;

* and using dedicated Office 365 environments

* Google for Work, meanwhile, continues to be popular among small-to-midsize businesses (SMBs)

* It's easier to get started with Google's tools,* Google doesn't provide

that deployment flexibility

* Google for Work only supports multi-tenancy deployments.

Page 36: We like project

*WHY MICROSOFT WILL BEAT GOOGLE IN THE ENTERPRISE CLOUD WAR

* Microsoft well suited for use by big biz* "Those very big companies are interested in Microsoft

more than Google because of deployment flexibility, as well as hybridization capabilities."

* Google won't go out without a fight* Google is running promotions to steal away enterprise

customers from its competitors.* Google kicked off an initiative last month that lets

businesses under other providers' contracts use Google for Work apps at no cost for the remainder of those license agreements.

* 2.FUTURE TECHNOLOGY TRENDS WILL EMERGE FROM INDIA: SUNDAR

PICHAI

*Technology trends of the future will emerge from India, Pichai told students at one of India's top college*Pichai said that the company is investing heavily

in India because it feels that products created for the country can be scaled up globally*Having a foreign degree or studying in a top

college in India is not a prerequisite for success.*There are many paths, just do what excites you.

It will all work out in the end

Managing intellectual property issues and other legal risks

Processing ideas quickly, efficiently

Establishing an efficient internal structure

*3.Overcoming the challenges to successful open innovation

Page 39: We like project

*Companies implementing open innovation programs can control the costs and potential liabilities by using an automated system to guide submitters on what to disclose, what not to disclose and how to disclose information.* It also documents the history of communications between

corporation and inventor, which is critically important to preclude downstream litigation.*A structured screening process for quality ideas to be acted

upon quickly and efficiently. *A filtration process runs most effectively when the open

innovation team develops and automates a strong set of criteria to sort through submissions.*An open innovation program with a strong internal structure is

one that:*  effectively solicits ideas;*  reviews ideas in a timely manner*makes decisions whether or not to pursue the submission just as

efficiently; *  communicates regularly with the innovator on the status of the

submission

*WhatsApp has always been free to download and use for the first year

* The company had introduced a subscription fee of 0.99 cents after the first free year.

* It has currently 990 million users and growing.

* Although the fee is negligible, the company admits that it has harmed its growth, particularly in developing countries where access to banking services is not so good

*4.Whatsapp is now free and ads-free

Page 41: We like project

*Does this mean then that the company will stay afloat by

generating revenue via third party advertising? The answer is no

* This strategy sounds uncannily familiar to the strategy adopted by Facebook for its Messenger service—overhauling it to make it a one-stop shop to communicate with people and businesses across the world.

* It also makes perfect business sense for Facebook to roll out WhatsApp as a free service and focus on chat apps, as messaging apps account for 91% of all time spent on mobiles and desktops by US users according to a recent report by Comscore.

*Being part of the Facebook stable allows WhatsApp access to the social network’s powerful infrastructure, which includes financial and technical support that it needs to grow,

*While WhatsApp gives Facebook access to a nearly 1 billion user base.

Page 42: We like project

* The term Net neutrality was derived out of debates in the US about the bandwidth consumed by video downloads; •Network providers sought to charge higher rates for services chewing up more bandwidth •While content providers wanted an “open” and “free” Internet where every bit of data was treated equally.

• World Bank report said. “In whatever form a country would wish to use the Internet for development purposes, its public policies should ensure that technical management of Internet traffic is not used.”

*5.Facebook’s free basics could distort markets: World bank

Page 43: We like project

* “Net neutrality” is a concept that seeks equal access to the internet for all users, businesses and clients both, denying service providers the right to charge more for more.

* Under Free Basics, which is available in 37 countries, users can access a basic range of internet services — including sites such as Wikipedia and AccuWeather on their mobile phones for free.

* Net neutrality activists have argued that the practice can become an excuse to block certain traffic streams, content or expression, to give preference to others, or to impede competition.

* The move faced criticism because it offered free access only to select content, violating the principle of Net neutrality

* “Care should be taken to ensure that users have the greatest possible access to internet-based content, applications, and services of their choice, the report added.

*6.GENDER DIVERSITY IN IT TAKING A CENTER-STAGE IN

2016

* IT industry has been criticized for the lack of diversity and have been facing increasing pressure to diversify their largely male workforces

*Apple, there is a slight improvement in gender diversity, where 30 percent of Apple’s U.S. employees were females as of August, compared with 28.7 percent in the previous year

* Studies have shown that companies with more female leaders have better financial results.

*Companies in the tech sector are however acting. Facebook Inc., Microsoft Corp., Amazon Inc., Accenture, Netflix Inc., among others have expanded paid leave for new parents and added benefits to care for the child such as traveling with employees on business trips. Experts believe, the trend will continue in 2016,

Page 45: We like project

* Indian IT company Intuit, increased paid maternity leave to 26 calendar weeks from 12 while paternity leave, which earlier was for five working days, will be increased to 15 working days.

*While recent data from the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) also shows on average women in India earn 20% lower than men, the positive lining is that the gap has narrowed by 9.2% during the last ten years

* These help sensitize people about the inequality prevalent across businesses and raise a strong cry for equal pay for equal work.

* Experts believe in 2016 many more tech firms globally as well as in India are going to show some progress in terms of gender diversity

* Tech major to open development centre in Telangana capital

* Apple Computer, Inc, the US multinational, could set up a large technology development centre in Hyderabad by July this year

* Hyderabad had been chosen after a thorough search, and it had emerged as a winner, like it did in the 1990s when Microsoft chose it to set up a software campus - the first outside the US

*7.HYDERABAD SET TO BITE APPLE

Page 47: We like project

*Apple is expected to take up 250,000 square feet office space in the Waverock IT towers, owned by US real estate development and consultancy firm Tishman Speyer in Gachibowli.

*Hyderabad, with its well-developed infrastructure and lower property prices, began attracting the companies in June 2014

*Amazon, IKEA, Flipkart and others have already selected the city to build their facilities in the past year and a half.

Page 48: We like project

* Scope and deadlines are defined up front

* Project lead and sponsor are established on Day 1. “Have the client clearly identify the project lead (day in and out point of contact) and project sponsor at the initial implementation meeting,”

* Team members have the right skill sets and work well together.*8.ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS FOR PROJECT SUCCESS

Page 49: We like project

* The project schedule is realistic.* Has a (software) system for keeping everything and

everyone on track.*  Project details, team members and clients are kept up

to date.*  Team members are empowered to make decisions* Problems are faced and fixed head-on (not shoved under

the carpet or ignored). “As with life in general, project management can be messy,”

* “When projects go off the rails, the first step is to accept responsibility and forget about blame,” says Jeremy Sewell
