MORNING Quantum Global

Good Morning & Welcome to Tuesday's trading action at Dalal Street, dated

5th February 2019.

SGX Nifty in early action is indicating that our stock markets will open with strong gains amidst a

positive close at Wall Street in Monday's trade.

Our call of the day suggests that Nifty likely to step higher above 11,000 mark. Major hurdles

seen at 11,111 mark. Positive bias on Nifty as long as 10813 support is held.

The bulls likely to celebrate as UK clears Vijay Mallya's extradition to India. Well as

per reports, the entire procedure to bring back Mallya to India may take only 7-8

months if he uses all his legal options.

This morning the renewed optimism is also on backdrop of:

1. Positive developments in U.S-China trade talks. U.S. President Donald Trump's weekend

remarks that trade talks with Beijing are “doing very well”. U.S.-China trade talks will

remain in focus as a March 1 deadline to avoid an increase on tariffs on Chinese imports

looms

2. Sentiments continue to benefit from a dovish Federal Reserve after the central bank last

week signaled rate increases were on hold until further notice.

3. Hopes of a rate cut by RBI at its policy meeting on Thursday, 7th February. The street

expects a softer stance from the central bank in the wake of easing inflation.

Technically speaking, the positive takeaway from yesterday's trade is that Nifty did bounce from

the mentioned support at 10813 mark.

Now judging by this price action at Dalal Street, the benchmark Nifty now needs to close above

11001 mark to fuel further optimism. Above 11001, Nifty will gear up for a big rally which should

take Nifty towards 11111 mark. The must watch support for Nifty from here on is at 10813 mark.

Long story short: Dalal Street is likely to be the much preferred investment destination as long

as Nifty trades above 10,813 zone.

FII/DII & OPTIONS DATA:

• As per Friday's provisional data available on the NSE, Foreign Institutional Investors

(FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 112.13 crore and Domestic Institutional Investors sold

shares worth Rs 65.22 crore worth of shares in the Indian equity market on February 4.

• As per option data, Maximum Call Open Interest (OI) stands at 11000 Strike Price,

followed by 11200 Strike Price for 28th February Series. Long build-up was seen at strike

prices 10800-10900. Maximum Put Open Interest (OI) was seen at strike price 10700

followed by 10400 strike price for 28th February series. Short buildup was seen at strike

prices 10500-10900.

GLOBAL CUES:

Wall Street ended Monday's trade with modest gains on backdrop of positive

developments in U.S-China trade talks. Also the street was buoyant after an

unexpectedly strong January jobs report. The U.S. economy created 3.0400 new jobs in

January, well above the consensus estimate of 172,000. Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve

signaled that rate increases are on pause and that its next policy move will depend on

economic data. The Fed cited market turbulence as one key consideration for its softer

tone.

As on Friday's trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose to extend its winning streak

for a sixth week, the longest since November 2017.

In last week's trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended at 25,063.89, up 1.3% for

the week. The S&P 500 index climbed 1.6% for the week. The Nasdaq Composite Index

closed at 7,263.87 adding 1.4% for the week.

MACRO EVENTS:

• The street will take a cautious stand to governments missed revenue and expenditure

estimates and most importantly, the expansion of ongoing welfare schemes. Complete

tax rebate up to Rs 5 lakh is a populist measure and the loss of tax collection will equal to

around Rs 18,500 crore. Also, the Rs 6,000 per year to farmers to be fully funded by the

central government will cost Rs 75,000 crore for the scheme for FY20.

Modest fiscal slippages seen. Please note, the fiscal deficit for FY19 has breached the

target of 3.3%, touching 3.4%.

• Modi government's interim Budget is aimed at the ballot. We say so because,

it includes myriad sops and schemes for the:

a. Farm sector (A yearly budget of Rs 75,000 to India’s 120 million small and

marginal farmers who benefit with Rs 6,000 as assured income support -- the

transfer of funds directly into their Jan Dhan accounts).

b. Tax-paying middle-income group (The income-tax threshold raised from Rs

2,50,000 to Rs 500,000. Standard deduction limit for the rest has gone up

from Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000. Capital gains exemption to be available on 2

house properties. Income tax relief on notional rent from unsold houses

extended to 2 years from 1).

The momentum oscillators are shifting in buy

mode and the stock price signaling a major

rebound. The stock price is signaling a break out

from a lower consolidation zone on daily charts.

Major weakness likely only below

intermediate low at 529. Confirmation of

strength above 585.

The sequence of higher highs / lows is intact in

monthly charts, indicating further strength. Also a

flag pattern seen on monthly charts. The stock is

likely to be a big outperformer going forward.

Establishing long positions at CMP, and on any

weakness between 529-533 zone should be the

preferred trading strategy, targeting 585 and

then at 601-605 zone. Stop below 517. Holding

c. The pension scheme targeted for unorganized sector workers. (Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana for people with

income up to Rs 15,000 a month. The beneficiaries will get Rs 3,000 a month pension after retirement against a contribution of Rs

100 per month).

• Long story short: It's a populist budget aimed to win over rural and urban votes. Stand-in Finance Minister Piyush Goyal has

delivered a budget that's most likely will improve the prospects of the NDA government in the upcoming elections.

Net-net, It as an election budget.

POLITICAL CUES:

• Tricky days lies ahead for investors at Dalal Street. The street is seen entering this time of year with apprehension and anxiety and the only thing

certain for investors’ is uncertainty. Expect volatility to hit the roof amidst uncertainty ahead of general elections in April-May 2019.

Digging deeper, predicting elections in India is a mug’s game and the element of volatility in next three months will depend on the three big

questions:

1. Will Narendra Modi return to power?

2. Will Priyanka/Rahul Gandhi beat expectations and win?

3. Will a Third Front government emerge, as in 1996-98?

Long story short: Dalal Street will simply zoom on the upside if BJP comes back to power, and probably live with a Congress victory, but please note

a imminent crash on cards if the Third Front assumes power.

COMMODITY CUES:

• Gold pauses in Monday's trade. Positive bias as long as 1291 support is held. Hurdles now seen at 1331. Interweek Strategy: Buy between 1297-

1301 zone, targeting 1331 and then at 1351-1368 zone with stop below 1289.

• Crude oil slipped in yesterday's trade amidst profit booking. Key support remains at 49-51 zone. Interweek strategy: Establish buy positions

between 51-52 zone, targeting, 57.50 and then at 59-60 zone with strict stop at 49.

• MCX COPPER: Interweek strategy: Establish buy positions between 429-433 zone, targeting 445 mark and then aggressive targets at 457 with stop

at 421.

CURRENCIES & BONDS:

• In Monday's trade, the Indian Rupee slumped 55 paise and was extremely weak against the dollar to close at 71.80.

Technically, USD/INR faces major hurdles at 72.50. Support now seen at 70.85. Major strength seen above 72.50. Interweek Strategy: Aggressive

traders can look to buy at CMP, targeting 72.50 and then aggressive targets at 73.05 with stop below 69.89.

WHAT TECHNICALS TELLS US ON NIFTY:

In Monday's trade, despite volatility and languishing most part of the session in red, the benchmark Nifty made a spectacular comeback in final hours of

trade to end above the dotted lines, and most importantly ended in green for 3rd consecutive session.

Sensex too ended on a spectacular note and most importantly well above its key psychological 36,500 mark to end at 36583 mark.

• The benchmark indices gained for third day in a row.

• The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market was negative. The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.17% while the BSE Small-Cap index

slipped 1.17%.

• Technically speaking, medium term supports on Nifty are placed at 10501 zone. A move below 10,501 will deteriorate technical conditions further

with aggressive targets at 10,333 mark.

• Intraday supports are placed at 10,871 and then at 10813 zone.

• Medium term hurdles on Nifty at 11001 and finally at 11,111 mark.

• The medium term price action for Nifty is suggesting that we are likely to see an 10601-11,111 range in near term with positive bias.

Bulls Vs. Bears: Time to Pick a Side!!

Positive global cues likely to keep optimism alive at Dalal Street...

Preferred trade on Nifty (10913): Buy between 10900-10915 zone, targeting 11001 and then at 11111-11251 zone with strict stop at 10777.
