The Aquamarine range of Reverse Osmosis Desalination systems is a comprehensive range of standard and customised products devel-oped and manufactured in South Africa on the basis of the well-known process of Reverse Osmosis which has been under constant devel-opment since the first experimen-tal systems were introduced in the 1950’s. In general terms the process is a “reverse process” based on the natural osmotic pressure difference between two salt solutions on either side of a membrane, in which me-chanical pressure is applied to the side with higher salinity.

The membranes through which the salt passes at relatively high pres-sure are a vital part of the system, separating the fresh water from the “salty” or undesired water.

All Aquamarine systems use high quality “thin film composite” spiral wound membranes housed in fibre-glass reinforced plastic or FRP pres-sure vessels.

The operating processes are continu-ally monitored and controlled by so-phisticated PLC and microprocessor controllers which will give immediate warning and possible shut down if any of the vital process parameters are not within acceptable limits.

All systems have the option of a dos-ing pump to dose one of the many AQM membrane anti-scaling chemi-cals that will be customised as per the feed water conditions. All pumps and instrumentation is of top quality which is vital to ensure re-liability and long service life, with a minimum of maintenance required. The electrical and control logic is an integral part of the system which will ensure long, trouble free operation of the system.

The system includes all necessary in-strumentation including: • Flow meters for indication of fresh water and brine water outlet flows. • Glycerol filled pressure gauges for pressure indication. • Conductivity monitoring with warning and optional shut down for water quality management. • Pressure switches for protection against over and under pressure. • Automatic system flush on shut down

All frame work is stainless steel and in-terconnecting pipework and fittings are either CL16 PVC or stainless steel for corrosion resistance

Unit Design

• Frame: Stainless steel epoxy coated.• Pre filtration: 20 and 5 micron pre filters for the removal of suspended solids. Activated carbon block for the removal of chlorine. • Anti-Scaling dosing: dosing pump for AQMSW membrane anti-scaling chemical dosing.• Feed Pump: Full bronze or plastic centrifugal type• Fresh Water Flush pump: Full bronze or plastic, centrifugal type flush pump.• High pressure pump: 316 SS piston pump and motor combination. (2.2kW)• Pressure Vessels: Memshell 1000psi FRP pressure vessels. • Membranes: Filmtec Membranes SW30 2540.• Pressure gauges: inlet and outlet pressure on pre-filters, system operating pressure, low pressure switch for monitoring of inlet pressure and high pressure switch for monitoring of system over pressure. • Flow meter: permeate • Conductivity measurement: permeate measurement with over limit set point. • Electrical controls: OS3020 Microprocessor for system automation and water quality management. • Other: CIP connections for membrane cleaning.
