Johnson brings together all the competencies
and the know-how needed for the completion
of wells, and supplies a complete range of
products for the well and its environment.
From the exceptional performance of the
Johnson screen for optimum exploitation
of complex aquifer to the spun rib screen
with oblong or round holes, Johnson
offers a wide diversity of high-performance
solutions incorporating all the fittings
necessary for the completion of water
wells.
Johnson was established more than a century ago, when it invented the first wire-wrapped well screen: an innovative product, which
considerably improved the effectiveness and the yield of water wells. Since then, its experience and its expertise have been extended to
other water-related applications, and its technology enables it to satisfy all filtration and separation requirements related to the extraction
and treatment of water.
The diameters available range from
50 mm (2") for drive points designed for
dewatering work sites, to 900 mm (36")
for high flow-rate wells.
The manufacturing materials are
common weldable metals such as stainless
steels, black steel or galvanized steel. For
shallow wells on low budgets, continuous
slot or perforated PVC screens can be
supplied. PVC pipes and extension pipes
are also available.
Slot width starts at 100 and slots are
designed to adapt perfectly to any type of
formation, from silty clays to coarse gravels.
Thanks to the large open area of the
screens, water is pumped at low entrance
velocities, with low head loss and energy
consumption.
Various additional products associated
with water wells complete the range to
provide a global solution: threaded
connections and other fittings,
i n no va t iv e c h em i ca l t re a tm en ts ,
biodegradable drilling mud, hydrometry
instruments, etc.
A qualified and experienced team
is ready to give you advice and service in
order to help you define the equipment
best suited to the geology and hydro-
dynamics of your well.

Thanks to its innovative hydraulic design (patented), the Johnson water intake screen provides reliable maintenance-free operation with
complete protection of fauna and flora, even in shallow water, with no waste management.
Its main advantages are as follows:
Low investment cost - the water
intake is connected directly to the pumps
suction pipe. The absence of civil engineering
considerably reduces the cost and delay
of water intake projects.
Low maintenance - Johnson water
intake systems are robust and have no
moving parts. Their design prevents clog-
ging, and the materials used resist corro-
sion and biofouling.
Protection of the environment - The
flow rate through the screen is so low that
neither flora nor fauna can be dragged
into the system.
Easy cleaning - The compressed air
backwash system is controlled remotely
and does not require any underwater
maintenance.
No waste management - During back-
wash operations, waste is carried away by
the current.
Optimum adaptability - Each intake
screen is designed to adapt to the specific
conditions of the site, taking into
consideration:
1. the nature of the water (material
selection in order to obtain optimum
resistance to corrosion and to biofouling),
2. the dimensions of the particles that
need to be stopped (selection of the
slot-3 mm on average),
3. the characteristics of the watersource (flow rate, depth, current) and
the available space (S or T type
intakes).

Johnson screens can be used for many
types of processes carried out by water
treatment systems.
This includes activated carbon and resin
retention processes, demineralisation, ion
exchange or even pressure filtering.
In these applications, Johnson screens
collect or distribute the treated solution, retain the filter bed, distribute the wash
solution or trap suspended solids.
The screens are the ideal technological
choice thanks to their excellent adaptability,
their high effectiveness, their minimal
maintenance and their longevity.
For all these processes there is a wide
selection of filtration and separation internals:
Header laterals, with branches specially
designed to eliminate dead zones in in the
treatment medium.
Resin traps, with a large open area
and the capacity to withstand very high
differential pressures,
Support grids, easy to install, needing
only minimal additional support structures,
Filter bottom nozzles (stainless
steel or ABS), for simplified installation
and excellent performance,
Precoat filters, providing very fine
filtration while benefiting from the robustness
and longevity of welded steel screens.

The TRITONTMsystem is the ideal alternative to filter bottoms with nozzles. The stainless steel TritonTM system provides toughness and
maximum open area to optimize the effectiveness of treatment installations.

Installation of the TritonsTM
Versatility - Adaptability
The simplicity of its design means that the
TritonTM system adapts easily to existing
filters. As it does not need any space
between the concrete base and the drains, the TritonTM system allows the depth of the
medium to be increased in the case of filter
rehabilitation.
Installation is simple and rapid.
Functions
TritonTM is designed to provide an overall
response to the numerous problems
involved in drinking water filtration, and
offers the following advantages:
maximum filtration surface area,
very wide coverage of the filter bottom
(optimization of drainage),
direct retention of the filter medium
(no attrition of activated carbon particles),
very fine filtration cut-offs (> 150 ),
highly effective washing (air/water),
several layers of filter media can be
used without risk of disturbance.
Savings
higher filtration speed,
operation energy savings,
increased filter productivity (m3/m2/cycle),
thus potentially smaller dimensions for
a given throughput,
zero maintenance, so no expensiverepairs or production shutdowns,
toughness and durability thanks to the
semi-circular shape of TritonTM and the
quality of the materials used,
Easy and quick to install.

Sludge thickening drain
Rotary drum : improvessolid removal and water content
Static, rotary or vibrating equipments are
often fitted with Johnson screens in the
food processing and mining industries, as
well as in the pulp and papermills and
sewage treatment plants. Screening
drums, curved grids and high-performance
trommels are particularly suitable for
these kinds of industrial application.
In addition to the advantages mentioned
above in the description of our water
intakes (robustness, reduction of the risk
of clogging, lifetime, etc.), Johnson
screens have the following main assets:
Improved system capacity thanks to
the large filtration area,
Higher water removal rate in baskets
and drums and on curved screens thanks
to the sharp edges of the profiled wire, which enables better separation of the
liquid and the particles to be retained,
Resistance to corrosion and abrasion,
Simplified mounting procedures due
to an all-welded construction,
Custom design, according to the
specifications of each customer; depending
on the function of the screen, its
construction enables filtration either from
the inside to the outside or from the
outside to the inside,
Small openings, from 25 . The slots
can be longitudinal or peripheral.

JOHNSON: THE CORE OF THE SYSTEM IN THE AUTOMATIC FILTERS
7
F I L T R A T I O N
The very robust, fully-welded construction
of Johnson continuous-slot screens gives
them much greater durability than disposable
filter cartridges made of fabric, PVC,
paper, cellulose or metal mesh.
This characteristic enables them to be
incorporated into automatic filters and to
withstand vigorous cleaning (even with
scrapers) and repeated backwashes without
any damage, while reducing the quantity
of waste to be treated.
The manufacturing features of the screen
and the properties of its V-wire are such
that the particles do not clog the slots and
cleaning is made much easier.
Johnson filter cartridges are available with
openings as small as 25 for very fine
filtration applications. These cartridges
can also be used as supports for filter
membranes. The common manufacturing
materials are 304 and 316L stainless
steels ; other alloys are available on
request.

Because the effectiveness and the reliability of the equipment also depends
on the quality of its installation, Johnson has chosen to make available to
its customers a team of experienced technicians in order to assist them in
the installation of the equipment, supervision of the installation or straight-
forward technical assistance.
A custom package is defined in order to optimize the system while meeting
the customers specifications.
This is just a brief overview of the filters and screens that
are the most commonly used in water treatment industries.
Custom solutions can be designed to target the specific
needs of your application.
