Whitaker, former U.S. Attorney from Iowa and director of the new government watchdog group the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), responded to a late night tweet from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, promising she would ask the Department of State to release her email records, saying: “The Federal Records Act and Freedom of Information Act are intended to maintain an accountable and transparent government. Any breach of these laws is serious. Unfortunately it appears that Secretary Hillary Clinton and her aides’ exclusive use of a private email system violated these laws and deprived citizens of information to which they are entitled and need. “FACT calls upon the State Department to release all of Secretary Clinton’s emails, as well as those of her aides. Her current pledge to disclose her correspondence, which would only include those that she sent directly to employees using official State Department addresses, will barely scratch the surface of what the public deserves to know. “New media reports indicate that Secretary Clinton’s political aides, who were also employees at the State Department, communicated only by private email addresses, alluding to a pattern and practice of hiding information from American citizens and government authorities. Whitaker, former U.S. Attorney from Iowa and director of the new government watchdog group the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), responded to a late night tweet from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, promising she would ask the Department of State to release her email records, saying:TheFederal Records Act and Freedom of Information Actare intended to maintain an accountable and transparent government. Any breach of these laws is serious. Unfortunately it appears that Secretary Hillary Clinton and her aides exclusive use of a private email system violated these laws and deprived citizens of information to which they are entitled and need.FACT calls upon the State Department to release all of Secretary Clintons emails, as well as those of her aides. Her current pledge to disclose her correspondence, which would only include those that she sent directly to employees using official State Department addresses, will barely scratch the surface of what the public deserves to know.New media reports indicate that Secretary Clintons political aides, who were also employees at the State Department, communicated only by private email addresses, alluding to a pattern and practice of hiding information from American citizens and government authorities. Because the private email systems did not comply with federal law and did, in fact, work to withhold information, it is simply not adequate that Secretary Clinton determine what emails should be released. Rather, an independent review of all of Secretary Clintons private email correspondence must be conducted, as well as an investigation into relevant State Department employees use of private email.During and following her service as Secretary of State, Mrs. Clinton and her aides have hidden information from the American people and government authorities. This latest overture simply does not come close to remedying this breach, and instead, is an insulting demonstration of damage control without earnest effort to be forthright with the public. FACT will continue to pursue every legal option available, including lawsuits, to obtain every last email Clinton and her aides sent when they thought they were obscured from the publics view. This week, the organizationsent a letterto U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder demanding legal recourse against Clinton. Previously, FACT filed a Federal Elections Commission complaint against Catalist, the Clinton-aligned data firm that illegally coordinated with hundreds of leftwing political entities. The Washington, D.C.-based Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) launched in February 2015. It is led by Matthew G. Whitaker, former U.S. Attorney in Iowa.
