The Premier Puerto Rico Economic Re-construction Summit wound up at the world class facility Condado Vander-bilt San Juan, last Friday November 4, after six hours of intensive discussions on how Puerto Rico can achieve a solid new direc-tion. Over 200 participants attended the bi monthly event organized by Minority Cham-ber of Commerce in conjunction with Ma- nufacturing Industrial Association of Puerto Rico, on the theme, “Public-Private Sector Relations & Simplifying Reconstruction of Puerto Rico”.

Puerto Rico Economic Reconstruction Summit 2017 Conference closes with call for the private sector to be at the center of Puerto Rico’s development.

About the Chamber: MCC is an independent, business educational, membership-driven economic-development organization. Its mission is to promote commercial, economic, business, and educational relations, and to facilitate trade and investment. MCC also will soon announce the launch of a new division: a Regional Center for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Such regional centers

are an attractive way for Puerto Rico to raise funding. Raising capital via the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program is quite unique compared with traditional sources of funding – and EB-5 is an exciting and ever-evolving industry development.

Minister of Commerce in Honduras Arnaldo Castillo, our Host in Honduras, joins with Pastor Saul Gonzalez from “The Christian Summit Ministry” and his lovely wife Esthela Zelaya for an early morning welcome by Francisco

Lara, Executive Director of Puerto Lempira’s Municipal Economic Development.

To reduce poverty and create econom-ic development for rural communities in Honduras. The Minority Chamber of Commerce (MCC) envisions a high degree of cooperation with other U.S organiza-tions that will be mutually beneficial through shared goals in the area of development of disadvantaged rural and municipal com-munities. MCC seeks to advance a core number of formal partnerships to identify economic sectors presently lacking infra-structure, as well as to facilitate collabora-tion to aid municipalities, governments, and local business organizations in the region with roads, technology, water-energy devel-opment, and U.S. entrepreneurship.

Honduras is a fascinating country with great potential to do business; howev-er, poverty weakens the productivity sector in the country – the engine of Honduran economic growth. MCC is endeavoring to encourage infrastruc-ture development and summon the attention of U.S entrepreneurs to sup-port small producers of coffee, fruit, vegetables, cheese, and meat among many other local products and com-modities. Honduran imports to the U.S. could be significantly enhanced if only am-ple infrastructure were in place, in-

cluding quality roads, water, and en-ergy. This segment of the economy could have great purchasing power with workforce contributions that would increase economic growth and productivity in Honduras, create jobs, and reduce illegal immigration to the U.S. The rising volume of Hondurans in poverty puts downward pressure on family incomes. Additionally, pro-longed periods of poverty produce downward effects on human-capital development by limiting access to ed-ucation and training and proper busi-ness development.

Nearly 120 local producers and entrepreneurs are trained by the Minority Chamber to improve their production and trade with large minority-based

    companies in the U.S.

Agricultural leaders and Mayors from the Department of Lempiras in Honduras.

The Mission: Facilitate exchange between the U.S. and rural municipalities, improving international cooperation, and assisting with global business and economic growth to cities with business culture of the United States, create new businesses, jobs and development. History demonstrates politi-cal issues take second place for countries when U.S Entrepreneurship and Solidarity get involved.

Conclusion: Members and Partners of the Minority Chamber often ask me “What can I do in Central America?” in terms of business or investment. I tell them Central America is an under developed group of countries, so everything needs develop-ment, there is opportunity everywhere for the entrepreneur at every level especially, in hotel “boutique” projects and coffee de-velopment center. Costa Rica is a leader.

    PUT AMERICA FIRST!

The business empowerment of women across the corporate world is one of the most remarkable revolutions of the past 50 years. It is remarkable because of the extent of the change: millions of peo-ple who were once dependent on men have taken control of their own economic fates. It is remarkable also because it has produced so little friction: a change that affects the most intimate aspects of people’s identities has been widely welcomed by men as well as women.

A perfect example is Delia Grullon, from Dominican Republic and living in the Uni-ted States since 1993. She is the Minority CEO’s guest of June Edition, is a time to note women in the business history here in South Florida. Here is my interview with one such woman, Ms. Delia Grullon the CEO of the Consortium of USA Special Aviation Se-curity company based in Miami, and global service at the Atlanta International Airport. Recently expanding a new division, “Maxi-mus Global Security”.

CEO, Ms. Grullon, migrated to the United States at the young age of sixteen from the Dominican Republic. It was on this journey where she was introduced to an entirely new industry that would soon become her passion; the airline industry. Ms. Grullon began her career in the airline industry with Eastern Airlines as a customer service and

reservation agent, but her passion for the service industry was quickly recognized, and she was soon granted the opportuni-ty to transition found herself as one of the new managers for the largest airline in the Central and South American region, Taca Airlines. Grullon would spend the next 18 years with Taca, helping the airline become a dominant staple in the airline industry.

As a part of our mission at the Minority News to help women advance in the cor-porate world, both for themselves and the greater good. The purpose of the interview with Ms. Grullon is to strive to change the culture of business from the inside out - by investing in women.

How would you describe yourself in one word? Dedicated

You come home one day as president of the company, would you tell that story?“I would like to say that my position in this company happened from one day to the next, but the reality is, it took a lot of hard work to get to this point in my life. I had been in the airline industry ever since I can remember and have worked every position from the bottom up until my last position as the duty manager of Avianca/Taca for the past 18 years. I believe this experience and lengthy track record of being in the airline industry is what allowed me to use my ex-

pertise and knowledge I’ve gain to become the CEO of an airline service company. From being on the airline side for so many years, I knew exactly the kind of service the airlines would be expecting and how to manage such a complex operation. This has been an interesting enjoyable experi-ence for me. More important than anything, USA Special Aviation is a family owned business and I am grateful for everyday that I get to work alongside my family”.

Recently you create a new expansion with Maximus Global Services, tell us about it? “This new division is very sophisticated re-lated to security and protection and offers experienced unarmed security officers, trained armed security guards, or off-du-ty police officers. We provide integrated security featuring the latest in commercial protection with advanced technology and meticulous planning for all kind of industry and governments”

Your challenge in this division? “Our current high-profile client base is a tes-tament to our capacity to provide the most reliable and efficient security services, we have the best infrastructure to response any project. Our company is owned and op-erated by executives with 20+ years of ex-perience in aviation and security services. We are ready at a moment’s notice to take care of your aviation, commercial and pri-vate security needs”.

What was the greatest lesson you learned from your company that has helped you succeed in the business in Miami Dade County?“I believe the greatest lesson that I have learned from my company thus far, is that without persistence and consistency you will have a tough time succeeding in any business, service industries especially. The core of my business relies on service; ser-vice to the airline, passengers, and airport. With over 100 employees representing your company daily it is important to instill the right culture in your company. I make sure that every one of my employees feels like part of the family because after all that is what we are, a family business. I think it is extremely crucial to maintain a healthy relationship with your employees no matter how big your company is, you must keep the company culture consistent. At the end of the day, your employees are in the front lines of building your company’s reputation and if they’re not happy you can’t expect

them to provide the highest quality of cus-tomer service”

What’s your opinion about whether women can have it all?“I don’t believe it is a matter of opinion as to whether a woman can have it “all”. It is a proven fact, as we’ve seen throughout his-tory and with all the great female leaders and entrepreneurs that have come before us and those who are living it today, that women are just as capable as men to at-tain success. I would be naïve to say that a women’s path to success is as easy as a man’s, but the challenge is what drives me. It drives me to prove to myself and the world that we are not limited, and that the skills that I have learned are not specific to gender, so yes, women can have it ALL!

You are in the industry where Men are owners at the average. Is a real chal-lenge for you?I’ve never felt that being a woman limits me in any way. I must admit that I am privileged to live in a society where women have rights. That said, I want to tell you that I tru-ly believe change starts in our minds. We must change our chips that tells us that so-ciety generally associates successful lead-ership with stereotypically masculine traits, because feminine traits are equally effec-tive and are the base of transformational leadership. Both men and women, need to develop skills and work smartly (not hard), so if you add passion and confidence, you’ll give that little extra required to achieve your goals regardless of your gender. Ladies, being a woman is a gift not a restriction, so let’s trust in our value and let’s aim for the stars!

What have you learned about leader-ship, entrepreneurship and mentoring others?“My favorite thing about being a leader is the ability to teach and motivate those be-hind me. As a single mother, raising three boys, I have learned to become strong, in-dependent, and ambitious. These are just some of the many traits I think any leader, male or female, should possess. Being a leader has taught me that it is not about just delegating and “bossing” people around; instead it is about knowing how to develop those around you to the point where there are no longer following you, but instead leading with you. I am a firm believer in col-laborating and team efforts, so whenever a decision must be made, I always try to give my team an opportunity to offer their inputs and ideas”.

After all this success, what do you strug-gle with now?“I believe everyone has their own definition for what success is. As for me, succeeding is knowing I’ve done everything in my pow-er to be the best version of myself every

day and still knowing there is always more to learn and room for improvement”.

All month long we are celebrating Wom-en’s Entrepreneurship History, who do you admire most and why?“There are so many powerful, influential, and all around great women in this world, some of whom I’ve met personally, but the one person I admire the most in this world is my mother. My mother has been the big-gest influence in my life and I’d like to be-lieve a lot of the qualities I possess today can be attributed to her. She has been a great example for my siblings and I on how to be independent, strong, family-oriented, and ambitious”.

What advice would you give to young women who want to succeed in the workplace?“My one advice for women who want to succeed in the workplace is to be persistent and most of all have integrity. Find you pas-sion and do not let anyone or anything deter you from your goals. Women have the pow-er to accomplish whatever it is they desire, so do not let anyone tell you otherwise”. How do you achieve work-life balance?“I am very family-oriented. Everything I do, I do for my kids and my family. So, to me it is a matter of knowing how to prioritize. Being a business owner can be very demanding but my kids and their happiness has always been my number one priority. When you have your priorities in line, I believe it is a lot easier to manage that work-life balance”.

What has been the role of luck in your success?I’ve never considered luck or relied on luck to play a role in my life. Faith, hard-work and consistency are what I teach my kids to rely on. If we do our part, God will take care of the rest. So, no I haven’t been ‘lucky’, but yes, I’ve been blessed.”

    What’s your biggest strength?

“My biggest strength would have to be my dedication and my passion to succeed for my children and my family. I have a very strong work ethic, I like to get things done as soon as possible rather than procrasti-nating”.

What’s your biggest weakness?“My biggest weakness as a CEO is learning how to say no. I’ve always hated any sort of confrontation and there have been times where I have let opportunities slip by for the sake of keeping the peace. So, I guess the biggest aspect of my new role is learning to be a bit more assertive. I’m very keen on being a team player and allowing everyone to offer their inputs, but I have learned there are times where I need to make decisions on my own for the benefit of my company.”

What is your favorite quote?“Balance, peace, and joy are the fruit of a successful life. It starts with recognizing your talents and finding ways to serve oth-ers by using them”.

circuit that provides many op-tions to choose from such as stores, brand names and dis-counts. It even offers the option to obtain credit cards, receive and store merchandise at a lo-cal address in Miami – assigned by KING CLUB – and then it sends the goods to their final destination in a reliable, fast and secure manner.“We are sure that KING CLUB EXPRESS is going to be very useful for our Hispanic com-munities inside and outside the United States because we are the first parcel ecosystem that is fast and reliable that comes

with a 100% guarantee. We are also the only one to offer the ability to buy from stores both online and in person. It also lets the members manage currency exchange from one country to another, a service that until now it has been very limited for His-panics”, said Aguilera.During the first month of ope- rations, the KING CLUB EX-PRESS membership will be free; however, a monthly main-tenance fee will be applied to keep active accounts that do not have a contract. As a businessman from Para-guay, René Aguilera, president of King Courier Express, is well aware of the limitations many Latin American communities experience when entering global commercial and financial systems in order to purchase or sell goods not available in their countries, or when exchanging foreign currency to help their families.

Thus he created KING CLUB EXPRESS, an innovative pro-gram that provides its members with extraordinary commercial benefits from anywhere in the world.
