t’s FUN to be GREEN! The annual
Cavite Economic Zone (CEZ) FUNRUN
was held last November 8, 2015. It aims to
create camaraderie among CEZ people by
engaging them in a fitness activity that is
environmental friendly.
The Warehouse Management Inc. family
did not miss this significant event. Pres.
Robert Lester Aranton, led the team in
reaching the goal of finishing a 3-kilome-
ters and 6-kilometers run.
Before the actual run begun, a warm-up
excercise was performed in Touch Com-
pound administered by Alvin Arcala,
Warehouse Management Inc.- IT Staff.
Afterwhich, the entire family went to CEZ
football field where the FUNRUN will of-
ficially start. A short program was held and
CEZ Administrator Atty. Norma Cajulis-
Tañag delivered her welcome remarks that
inspired everyone to be healthy and fit
physically and mentally. Followed by an
opening message given by Cavite Eco-
nomic Zone Investors Association
(CEZIA) President- Mr. Takashi
Kawano.
Medals were given to the first 10 runners
who made it first to the finish line.
As all participants struggled to RUN to the
finish line, it is still the FUN that mandated
the entire event. After all it is a
‘FUNRUN.’
Proceeds of the CEZ FUNRUN 2015 will
be used for the environmental programs of
the Zone like tree planting, improve waste
management system and conversion of all
street lightning to LED lights. ***

Green Logistics and Sustainable Management
reen logistics in general terms
describes all of the initiatives being
undertaken by our companies in mini-
mizing the impact of our logistics op-
erations as far as the environment is
concerned. The Warehouse Manage-
ment and Trade Development Services
Inc. (WMDTSI) for warehousing ser-
vices, Primestar International Forward-
ing and Trading Corporation (PIFTC)
for multimodal transport operator/bro-
kerage, PMA Transport Co. for trans-
port services and Primestar
Translogistics Corporation (PTC) for
Ecozone facilities and development.
In the mid-1980s, the concept of green
logistics started and evolved so fast
in the advent of new and advance tech-
nology. The activities comprise the
whole chain of the forward and reverse
logistics from the origin to the end us-
ers, i.e. from factories of raw materials
across the warehouses, transport to
the final consumers and the accompa-
nying information embedded in the
supply chain.
There are three main sections of green
logistics namely: Economy, Society
and Environment.
G
Our organization is confronted with
challenges through the years. In
addition to increasing diversity and
dynamics, environmental issues be-
come more important.
The interaction across our companies
form a strong synergy that will be able
to face the challenges squarely in the
future. The segmentation of our busi-
ness line for example will force us to
focus on core activities in the supply
chain.
The “ecological concern” in logistics
determines how far the logistics or
supply chain of a company is faced
with the issue of environmental pro-
tection and resource conservation.
Sustainable warehouse is about in-
tegrating, balancing and managing the
economic, environmental and social
inputs and outputs of the warehouse
operations. Sustainability is part of
the integral part of our corporate val-
ues: Customer Focus, Integrity, Team-
work, Excellence and Dependability.
The lack of consideration and poor
execution is mainly due to the lack of
frameworks and tools which can fos-
ter a real understanding that each of
the three dimensions are inter-related
Social, political and economic demands
for sustainable development force
organizations to reduce the impact on
the environment of their supply chains
and to develop sustainable transport
and supply chain strategies. (Wikipedia,
Green Logistics)
and demonstrate the dynamic rela-
tionships with each other.
Warehouse management involves
process such as recycled packaging,
moving goods into warehouse, tramp
transporting of goods. It has trans-
mission plan that will help reduce
double handling and may result to re-
duce fuel and energy. Distribution
center development is formulated not
only to reduce warehousing cost but
also reduce transportation cost and
further will reduce environmental ef-
fects. As support to green logistics,
Warehouse Management Inc. group
of companies, started using environ-
mental friendly devices that will
lessen the effects of global warming
and environment stress. The use of
LED lighting, proper disposal of
waste - segragation of Bio and Non-
Biodegradable waste, recycling plas-
tic materials and conservation of en-
ergy and water are some of the prac-
tices that warehouse management is
implementing.
We can all be ambassadors of Mother
Earth, by demonstrating in our own
simple way the love and care we have
for it. Afterall, this is the only HOME
that we have in the UNIVERSE. ***

“GLOBAL WARMING”“GLOBAL WARMING”“GLOBAL WARMING”“GLOBAL WARMING”“GLOBAL WARMING”
Ang Global Warming ay ang
pagtukoy sa pagbabago ng
panahon kabilang na ang pagtaas
ng temperature ng Atmospera ng
mundo at ng mga karagatan. Ito
ay matagal ng nangyayari sa ating
mundo at hanggang ngayon
patuloy pa rin ito sa paglala. Ayon
sa mga Internasyonal na
pagsasaliksik hinggil sa panahon,
ang temperatura ay patuloy na
tataas mula 1.1 hanggang 6.4
sentigrado sa pagitan ng taong
1990 hanggang 2100. Maraming
bagay ang dahilan ng pagtaas na
ito. Nariyan ang “greenhouse ef-
fect” na may pinakamalaking
epekto sa pagbabago ng tem-
perature ng mundo. Ito ay ang
pagtaas ng “greenhouse gas” na
nakapagdudulot ng patuloy na
pag-init ng bumabalot sa mundo
at ng ibabang atmospera nito. Ito
ay kinabibilangan ng mga gas na
nangagaling sa mga pabrika,
tambutso ng sasakyan,
pagsusunog ng mga plastic at
pagkakaingin. Nariyan rin ang
ibang aspeto tulad ng pagiging
sensitibo ng ating atmospera at
ganon din ang pagiging aktibo ng
mga bulkan.
Kapag nagpatuloy ang paglala ng
“global warming”, maaari itong
humantong sa pagkakaroon ng
epekto sa ating klima, sa
pagdalang ng pag-ulan, at
mahahabang araw ng tag-init.
Nariyan rin na magiging madalas
na ang mga pagbabago sa
panahon tulad ng baha, heat
wave, el niño o tagtuyot, buhawi
o maging ipo-ipo. Maaari rin itong
makaapekto sa ating agrikultura
na tila makakapagpahirap hindi
lamang sa mga kapatid nating
magsasaka kundi pati na rin sa
atin na mga nakikinabang sa
produktong pang-agrikultura.
Gayon din ang pagiging “extinct”
ng ilang mga piling hayop dahil na
rin sa magiging pagbabago sa
panahon. Maaari ring dumami at
kumalat ang mga epidemya sa
mundo. Malaki rin ang nagiging
epekto nito sa ating karagatan dahil
sa ang “Carbon Dioxide“ ay acid
na nahihigop ng ating karagatan,
sa paraang ito nagkakaroon ng
reaksyon sa tubig ang asido na
malaki ang nagiging epekto sa ating
sa karagatan.
Ayon na rin sa ilang pagsasaliksik
ng mga dalubhasa sa panahon
maraming mga bansa ang
mabubura sa mapa kapag ito ay
nagtuloy-tuloy. Dahil na rin sa
mainit na panahon mabilis na
matutunaw ang mga yelo sa mga
karatig kontinente at tataas ang
level ng mga yamang-tubig na
maaaring bumara sa ilang mga
bansa sa ating mundo. Dahil dito
hindi malayong mapabilang ang
ating bansang Pilipinas sa mga
babahain dahil tayo ay
napapaligiran ng mga yamang-
tubig.
Maaari nating sugpuin ang bagay
na ito kung tayo ay magkakaroon
ng pagtutulungan sa ibat-ibang
nasyon sa ating mundo. Sa mga
simpleng paraan, tayong mga
Pilipino ay maaari ding tumugon sa
“... pagbabago
tulad ng baha,
heat wave, el
niño, buhawi o
maging ipo-
ipo.”
mga programang isinusulong para
sugpuin ang “global warming”. Sa
mga kababayan nating may mga
sasakyan, sana ay ipalinis na nila
ang mga tambutso ng sasakyan
nila o dili kaya’y gumamit ng ibang
alternatibong paraan para
mabawasan ang “smoke
belchers”. Kailangan din tayong
magtanim ng maraming puno lalo
na sa mga lungsod na hindi puro
gusali na lamang ang nakikita sa
mga lugar na ito. Dapat din na
hindi tayo magsunog ng mga plas-
tic sa ating mga bakuran, hanggat
maaari ay magrecycle tayo para
maiwasan ang pagsusunog. Sana
rin ang mga kababayan nating
nagmamay-ari ng mga pabrika ay
panatilihin nilang malinis at huwag
magbuga ng maiiitim na usok sa
ating kalangitan.
Sana rin ay mas lalong paigtingin
at dagdagan ng ating pamahalaan
ang mga programa para sugpuin
ang suliraning ito. Maghigpit sa
pagbabawal sa mga “smoke
belchers” sa kalsada, paglulunsad
ng maraming programa sa
pagtatanim ng mga puno, at lalong
palawigin ang mga programa sa
pagre-recycle. ***

The TRUTH about LED Lighting
EFFICIENCY
LEDs are extremely energy efficient and consume
up to 90% less power than incandescent bulbs.
Since LEDs use only a fraction of the energy of
an incandescent light bulb there is a dramatic de-
crease in power costs. Also, money and energy is
saved in maintenance and replacement costs due
to the long LED lifespan.
Because of the low power usage of LEDs, they
are becoming extremely popular for light sources
in remote areas that use solar panels.
Although LEDs have a higher initial cost than in-
candescent and compact fluorescent light bulbs,
the cost is quickly recouped over time in lower
electricity costs.
LONGEVITY
LEDs have a lifespan of up to 60,000 hours com-
pared to 1,500 hours for incandescent bulbs. An
LED light will last over 7 years (constant use)
before needing replacement. On average, LED
bulbs last 10 times as long as compact fluorescent
bulbs, and 133 times longer than typical incandes-
cent bulbs. Long lifespan of LEDs will dramati-
cally reduce maintenance costs and lower long-
term operating costs compared to traditional in-
candescent and fluorescent tubes.
LED lifespan scenarios:
-50,000 hours powered 4 hours/day = 34 year lifespan
-50,000 hours powered 8 hours/day = 17 year lifespan
-50,000 hours powered 24 hours/day = 6 year lifespan
DURABILITY
LEDs are solid state lighting devices that utilize
semiconductor material instead of a filament or
LED (Light Emitting Diodes) are the latest and most exciting technological advancement in the lighting
industry. LEDs are small, solid light bulbs which are extremely energy efficient and long lasting. LEDs
operate differently than traditional incandescent light bulbs. This makes LEDs far more rugged and durable
than traditional incandescent light bulbs. LED technology also offers many additional advantages over
incandescent, neon and compact fluorescent lighting devices - such as exceptionally longer life span
(60,000 hours), enormously lower energy usage (90% more efficient), reduced maintenance costs and
higher safety. LEDs are currently being used for a wide variety of applications such as: residential lighting,
aerospace, architectural lighting, automotive, aviation, broadcasting, electronic instrumentation, enter-
tainment and gaming, industrial automation and controls, the military, traffic and safety & transportation.
(Cont...)
neon gas. An LED light is a tiny chip encapsulated
in an epoxy resin enclosure, which makes LEDs
far sturdier than traditional incandescent light bulbs
or fluorescent tubes. Since LEDs don't use fragile
components such as glass and filaments, LEDs
are able to withstand shock, vibration and extreme
temperature.
ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY
LEDs are made from non toxic materials, unlike
fluorescent lighting that uses mercury that may
pose a danger to the environment. LED’s are also
recyclable and considered “green” or Earth-
Friendly.
SAFETY
Improved safety may be LED's most important
benefit.
LED lights generate virtually no heat therefore
they are cool to the touch and can be left on for
hours without incident or consequence if touched.
LED's produce 3.4 btu's/hour, compared to 85 for
incandescent bulbs. In comparison, incandescent
lighting expels 90% of the energy it consumes via
heat, making the bulbs hot to the touch. LEDs re-
duce the potential for safety risks such as burns
and fires.
FUTURE
LEDs are poised to replace traditional incandescent light
bulbs. LEDs are rapidly becoming the preferred light-
ing solution of both professionals and residential us-
ers. LED technology is continually advancing - pro-
ducing brighter LED bulbs. ***

“RESIDUAL WASTE MANAGEMENT”
The Warehouse Way
t Warehouse Management Inc. we value clean-
liness next to safeness. We have formulated Waste
Management Program that will be a great help in
reducing the threat of Global Warming.
Separation of biodegradable and non-biodegrad-
able waste, recycling of reusable materials and al-
location of budget for proper waste disposal are
some of the practices that are implemented by the
company. Waste that are residual, those that are
not able to be recycled, re-used or composted are
being collected by an accredited establishment that
are equipped to manage and process it.
A waste free environment produces healthy and
safe workplace and creates efficient employees. ***

“Safety First” is a valuable slogan. It
is partly a philosophy of life. It is not a
purpose but rather an attitude and
means of living. Think SAFETY and
live SAFETY, it goes hand in hand with
every second of one’s life. Live your
life safely and let “Safety first” guide
you through.
However, the management cannot do
the whole safety job alone. Every
worker must do their part to keep them-
selves out, from getting hurt and meet-
ing accidents. Listed below are some
ways in promoting safety in the work-
place or even at home:
a. Use of safeguards provided.
b. Understanding and following safety
rules and safety instructions (no short-
cut for safety).
c. Seeking always for the safe way of
working on each job or activity.
d. Being watchful for any possible near
miss-end accidents.
e. Working earnestly on safety com-
mittee or other safety activities to
which you may be assigned.
f. Reporting /fixing all hazardous con-
ditions.
