Grade 3-4 Human Body Unit of Work – Next week the Grade 3/4’s will start a unit of work on the human body. As a part of this unit of work teachers will be using the correct terms for all body parts. Students will be drawing a human body and labelling body parts using the correct names. If you feel you would like to discuss this with your child in advance we encourage you to do so. Please come and see the staff if you have any concerns in relation to this unit of work. Earn and Learn – A reminder to keep sending in the Earn and Learn stickers, there is only a few weeks left! A big thank-you to those who have already sent their stickers in. Thankyou—Father’s Day Breakfast A big thank-you to those families who kindly donated milk, cereal, juice, bacon, eggs and pastry etc for our Father’s Day breakfast. Your donations were greatly appreciated. Student Helpers in the Office It is with a sense of sadness that we are no longer able to have our wonderful student helpers answering phone calls during recess and lunch times. Changes to Child Safe laws has meant that we are not allowed to have students talk on the phone unless we can ensure that the person on the other end of the phone holds a Working With Children’s Check. We are disappointed that we can no longer offer this opportunity to our students, however we understand the need to comply with this rule. We are looking at other ways we can encourage students helpers in the office as we know how much our students enjoy this role and how valuable our staff have found their help. Colds and Flu / Sick Children – As most of you would be well aware there has certainly been a spike in the number of cold and flu viruses affecting people in the community at the moment. The school has certainly seen a rise in student absences over the last few weeks and in particular over the last 2 weeks. This has also included some of our staff who have been struck down with the same virus and we have had to employ a larger than normal number of Casual Relief Teachers to replace them while they recover. We are asking parents to be vigilant and help the school to control the spread of these nasty viruses by ensuring that you keep your children home when they are sick. While we are all about increasing attendance at school, we also understand and support the need to keep your child at home when unwell. Please just remember to contact the office to let us know that your child is absent. Regards Maree Moyle Acting Principal

Music Count Us In exists to advocate for and celebrate music in Australian Schools. Each year, MCUI brings more than half a million people together in song, with a Celebration Day that reaches into every corner of the country. The song is written by student songwriters from across Australia, collaborating with MCUI’s celebrity mentors. This week, I introduced the song to students. They may practise at home by looking up Music Count Us In Shine Together on You Tube. Our celebration this year will include a whole school sing along in the BER building as well as the choir going to the Town Square to sing with other schools for the community.

Celebration Day is November 2nd with sing time at 12.30pm.
