1 GOVERNMENT COLLEGE MANANTHAVADY WALK WITH A SCHOLAR PROGRAMME 2018-19 ANNUAL REPORT Government College Mananthavady conducted various programmes for the academic year 2018-19. They involve internal and external mentoring, motivation visit, participation in various training programmes by internal mentors, participation in district and state camps by scholars, mock test etc . As there was flood and heavy rain in Wayanad district especially Mananthavady Taluk, mentoring could not be conducted properly up to October 2018. Most of the programmes were conducted since November 2018. There were 90 Mentees selected from the four departments of the college; that is, B.Com, B.A. English, B.A. Dev. Economics and B.Sc. Electronics. Their selection was based on screening of their Marks, Interests, Potentials and Capabilities. Each group was divided into five batches consisting of six mentees each. Each batch is aided by a mentor at a time. The mentees of this programme are benefited by two mentoring sessions, that is, internal mentoring session and external mentoring session. Each mentor took ten internal mentoring sessions. There were three external mentoring sessions which were handled by experts from various fields. The WWS activities of Government College Mananthavady are described below:

WALK WITH A SCHOLAR PROGRAMME 2018-19

ANNUAL REPORT

Government College Mananthavady conducted various programmes for the

academic year 2018-19. They involve internal and external mentoring, motivation

visit, participation in various training programmes by internal mentors,

participation in district and state camps by scholars, mock test etc . As there was

flood and heavy rain in Wayanad district especially Mananthavady Taluk,

mentoring could not be conducted properly up to October 2018. Most of the

programmes were conducted since November 2018.

There were 90 Mentees selected from the four departments of the college;

that is, B.Com, B.A. English, B.A. Dev. Economics and B.Sc. Electronics. Their

selection was based on screening of their Marks, Interests, Potentials and

each. Each batch is aided by a mentor at a time. The mentees of this programme

Sri Shoukathaly C.M., Assistant Professor of Commerce was nominated by the

College Council as the Coordinator of the Programme for the period 2018-19 in the

general meeting of Staff Council.

Internal Mentoring:

Internal mentoring of WWS scholars are conducted in the college properly. All

mentors had done mentoring more than 10 sessions (they need to take only 10

sessions). They understand the problems of mentees and help them to solve their

problems to achieve their goals. They motivate the mentees regularly and act as a

guide and friend.

District Level Orientation Programme

WWS co-ordinator six internal mentors participated in one day orientation

programme conducted by NMSM govt. College Kalpetta on 31/10/2018. The

programme was very effective and very useful for internal mentors.

Induction Prgramme for Internal Mentors

An induction programme was conducted by WWS unit in Government

College Mananthavady for internal mentors on 5th November, 2018. The class was

taken by Mr. Shoukathaly C.M., Co-ordinator, Walk With A Scholar Programme,

Government College Mananthavady. The internal mentors were given adequate

instructions and guidelines for proper functioning of internal mentoring. They were

also given files, notebooks, pens and stationeries.

Motivation Visit

Govt. College Mananthavady conducted a motivation visit for third and

second year scholars to Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode and Cochin

institute of Science and Technology on 14th, 15

th and 16

th January, 2019. The

proposal for the visit had been sanctioned by the state coordinator, New Initiatives

of WWS & SSP, Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Kerala and monitory

committee that is constituted in the college for monitoring WWS Programme and

SSP. The permission for the study tour had sanctioned by the principal, Govt.

College Mananthavady. Thirty scholars (23 girls and 7 boys) participated in the

visit. Three teachers (WWS coordinator and two lady teachers) accompanied the

students. The visit helped the students to understand the opportunities before them

for their higher education and research. The visit was very interesting and

motivating one for students. It was a first experience in IIM Kozhikode and

CUSAT for almost all the scholars. In this visit, students got opportunities for

interacting with faculties and students in these institutions. They could know

importance of IIM Kozhikode and CUSAT and their programmes.

District Motivation Camp

8 first year scholars participated in district level motivation camp conducted

by NMSM Govt. College Kalpetta on 15th

January 2019.

State Motivation Camp

Kumari Arya T.S, second year Scholar participated in the three day state

motivation camp held at University of Calicut on 4th

, 5th

and 6th February, 2019.

She had been selected as Chief Magazine Editor in the camp.

Mock Test for Final Year Scholars

A mock test on bank competitive test was conducted on 9th

February 2019.

The question paper had been prepared and conducted by Ms.Varsha Sasindran,

who got selection in IBPS Regional Rural Bank Probationary Assistant Mananger

2019.

Study Material and Stationery Kit to Scholars

In the November 2018, scholars were given stationery kit including note

book and pen. In the February 2019, various study materials which are useful for

realizing their dreams were purchased. They involve study material for competitive

examination like Bank test, PSC and civil service examination, UGC NET

examinations, MBA MAT etc.

External Mentoring

70 sessions of external mentoring wrer conducted for first, second and third

year scholars. The classes were taken by faculties who are in the list of external

mentors issued by Office of State Initiatives. The summery of external mentoring

It is concluded that the various programmes conducted by WWS unit in

Govt. College Mananthavady helped the students to improve their confidence and

to build a will power to achieve their goals.
