Walk Two Moons – Final assignments
Assignment 1 – “Postcard home” Postcard This is an individual assignment.
This assignment is due by Friday, 6-9, and is worth 10 points.
Directions
1. Review the map of the USA we created in class.
2. Choose any one of the places where Sal stops with Gram and Gramps on her
way to visit her Mom.
3. Use your notes from class and the Google Maps links Mr. Dines has provided
and write a brief postcard-note that includes a quote from the book and refers to
events in the book.
4. Get your postcard-note peer reviewed by two classmates and edit appropriately.
4. Bring your peer-review slips and final draft to Mr. D and receive a postcard
blank and the name of your mystery-addressee. Remember: students will receive
their postcards after school ends so don't reveal yourself or what you’ve written to
anyone.
5. Draw or download an image for the picture side of the postcard
6. Bring the completed postcard with image, note, and addressee’s name to Mr.
Dines - he’ll give you the address and a stamp – and file in the class in-box.

Assignment 2 – “Defining a character through art” This assignment is due by end of class on Tuesday, 6-13, and is worth 15 points.
Option 1: Collage This is an individual assignment.
Directions
1. Choose any character. 2. Using at least 10 different and separate pictures - either cut out or drawn -
create a collage of your character's face.
3. Include three or more brief excerpts from the book that supports your choices.
Put these excerpts anywhere on the collage that you'd like.
4. Put your name and class period on the upper right hand corner of the collage.
Option 2: Life-size silhouette This is a 2-3 person, team assignment.
Each team-mate receives the same grade.
Directions
1. Choose any character.
2. Draw or trace a silhouette - or outline - of the character on the paper Mr.
Dines has for you.
3. Use at least 15 different pictures or drawings or both to create a 'living
portrait' that shows, for instance:
• How your character thinks
• How your character feels
• What he or she holds in their heart
• What they hold in their hand
• The ground they stand on. In other words, what they believe, even if their
beliefs change or turn out to be wrong.
• Their dreams; their hopes
• What might 'stick in their throat' - in other words, what they want to say but don't
• What brings them joy; what gives them sorrow
• What he or she most desires
• What's in their muscles - what makes them strong
• What he or she might smell, taste, touch and hear
4. Include six or more brief excerpts from the book that support your choices.
• Put them anywhere you'd like on the collage
5. Put your name and period on the upper right -hand corner.
