or the last two years, Aldersgate residents at Wesley Manor have enjoyed seeing the friendly face of

19-year-old Brandon Warren. Despite being born with significant disabilities, Brandon lovingly helps serve supper to our residents every Tuesday afternoon.

Brandon openly described his disabilities. He suffered a stroke at birth, which dislocated half of his brain. This resulted in being paralyzed on one side of his body. Amazingly, he is now able to walk, carry a good conversation and has strong use of his left hand. He was in the Best Buddies program as a student at Manual High School, and just transferred to Ahrens Educational Resource Center to learn a trade.

His dream job is to work with people, especially if it involves NASCAR—he’s a major fan. “I love going to Kentucky Motor Speedway,”

he said. “I know Ben Rhodes, a professional driver from Louisville.”

Brandon lives near Wesley Manor with his parents and brother. “We looked at different places (to volunteer),” he said. “I wanted to go to Wesley Manor, since I like working with people. I enjoy helping the residents and getting to know them.”

Besides following NASCAR, Brandon loves to watch U of L, UK, Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Pelicans games. He’s particularly fond of UK football. “If Kentucky starts losing a game, I’ll go down there and jump in to play,” he enthusiastically offered. “I can throw a football pretty far with my good hand!”

In addition to watching sports, he also enjoys playing video games on his Xbox—one-handed.

It’s obvious Brandon has overcome his disabilities and enjoys serving others. We appreciate Brandon, and so many other volunteers, for giving their time and talents to help Wesley Manor residents. Y

Thank you 2018 Wesley Manor volunteers(continued from page 1)

Once our vision ... now our reality!

The Aldersgate Wing is home to our Personal Care and early-mid-stage memory support residents. This area had not been refurbished in over 25 years, but – thanks to the substantial support of many generous donors like YOU – renovations of all resident hallways, common and gathering areas were completed late in 2018. … And because pictures speak more loudly than words, we are delighted to share a few of our new photos with you! Thank you for helping us to make our dreams come true! Y

The future is unwritten, but it’s good to have a plan Wesley Manor is pleased to offer individual, personalized values-based estate planning services designed around your individual beliefs, needs and interests - at no charge to you. If you have been thinking about updating your will…creating or re-evaluating your estate plan…learning more about estate gift techniques that minimize taxes and allow you to support causes in which you believe, we invite you to meet privately with Brian Cohoon of Thompson & Associates. Brian is a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor and Accredited Investment Fiduciary (“CFP, CRPC, AIF”). Your meeting with Brian is strictly confidential. He will not share information with Wesley Manor, nor will you be asked to give a gift to Wesley Manor. Brian is available for one-on-one appointments at Wesley Manor once a month, or Brian will meet with you at your location. The initial appointment takes about an hour. Please call Anita Kuvin, VP of Development, (502) 964-3959 to learn more or to make an appointment. Y

Everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy their retirement years in a

community where they feel safe, secure and well-cared for. Wesley Manor does not

receive apportionments from the KY Conference of the United Methodist Church, but

the Conference has set February 24 as “Have a Heart for Seniors” Love Offering Sunday in all our Kentucky United Methodist

Churches. Please give generously to our Charitable Care Program through

the “Have a Heart for Seniors” appeal.

Wesley Manor’s Charitable Care Program provides aid for:• Assisted Living, Personal Care and Memory Support

residents who have outlived their resources and don’t qualify for government assistance.

• Nursing home residents who qualify for Medicaid, because the money the government pays us for their care is less than the cost of providing the quality of care they need and deserve.

Last year alone, Wesley Manor’s charitable and subsidized care totaled more than $1.5 million in direct resident financial assistance and unreimbursed nursing services!

Please listen to your heart ~ Your

generosity will brighten the lives of older adults &

guarantee them a home for life!

Our LEGACY SOCIETY– The Heart and Soul of Giving! Have you thoughtfully provided a gift by will or estate plan to sustain Wesley Manor’s mission into the future? If so, we would love to know about it! Or if you have done so, but choose not to be recognized, we understand and respect your desire for confidentiality– but we would like to hear from you either way. Please contact Anita Kuvin, (502) 964-3959 or email her at [email protected]. A special Gratitude Event is being planned for April 11, and we want to share an invitation with you. And … as you write your will – after you have provided for all your heirs – please consider including Wesley Manor in your estate planning. Y
