Publisher’s Letter

We held up the printing of this edition until the vote onObamacare was decided. Unfortunately, the forces

seeking expansion of Government have won. As founder ofAMAC, let me tell you this; they may have won this battle but thewar has just begun! We will do everything possible to REPEALthis legislation. (See inside for a brief outline of some of the stepswe’ll take)

This issue of your AMAC Advantage magazine is full ofinformation that we hope will be useful for you in the monthsahead. Articles cover topics from Health Savings Accounts toTravel with some food info sandwiched in between.

The real “meat” is about politics however. Most Americans are not fully aware of the deep, deep

financial problem our nation is facing, a situation that the HealthCare bill only makes worse. Our rising debt, our increasedbudget deficit and the potential downgrading of the credit ratingon United States bonds all spell big trouble ahead. Inside we layout the details and tell you about AMAC’s response.

To help inform our members, AMAC has listed those Senateseats that are up for election in November. Remember, all themembers of the House are up for reelection. We’ll do our best tokeep you informed so when you cast your vote you know thefacts.

All across America, people are joining AMAC by thethousands. Help us become a powerful voice by telling yourfriends about us.

“Sound Off”Amac Health Care Proposal Wanda Seymour says:

The AMAC health plan makes much more sense thananything coming out of the Senate or House. The AMACplan is a sensible plan in line with the wishes of theAmerican public regarding reforms versus destruction ofour health system!

 Martin Leder says:

Wow, it’s refreshing to see an organization such as AMACactually listen to its members and come up with practicalsolutions that make sense. You can count on my support.

 Lee Knight says:

I really like the opt out addition to the plan. There is anincentive to join so I would suppose most people will buyin. This is America and each should take responsibility fortheir own actions.

 Ryan says:

Thanks for listening to us, AMAC, about (mandatory) beingunconstitutional, but the opt out can still be abused by thesystem. It's better than the first plan, but not there just yet. This is a complicated mess, and I think our focus should beon jobs, and spending, as this is all for naught if theeconomy fails and we hit hyperinflation! God Bless andkeep at it!!!

 D. Hersh of Ontario, CA says:

With all due respect, AMAC, compromising with ANY PARTof the progressive agenda is DANGEROUS capitulation toindividuals who interpret compromise as weakness, subsequently tantamount to acceptance of the possibilitythat there IS such a thing as “half pregnant”……This is why

I am commenting here ratherthan wasting time with AARP!

Lt. Colonel Allen West Rob Wolf says:Thank you for introducing meto Lt. Colonel Allen West. He ismaking the statements that wepatriots are thinking andwanting from our government. Iwant to support his efforts tokeep this great Nation FREE!

Marc Rubios CPAC Home Run Doug says:

A true Conservative would speak against amnesty for illegalimmigrants and would announce that all illegals, includingtheir unAmerican anchor babies, be deported to cut amassive burden on the taxpayers and national debt, and tofree up millions of jobs for American workers. This wasmissing from Rubio’s speech and much of CPAC. To saveAmerica we need a Conservative with guts; we need Pattonnot patent leather.

 Niel Young says:

I am extremely impressed with Marco Rubio. Principledconservatives will always get my vote. That does notinclude Mike Huckabee. He was a taxer and supporter of“illegal immigration.” This from a N.H. native, home of thefirst in the nation’s presidential primary.

Sarah Palin - They’veGot the Wrong Girl Dan says:

Sarah has and will continue to receivemy support in any way possible. Sheappears to be everything yousummarized in your article and mostof all, principled, a STRONG point, when it comes to today’s politicians.PALIN in 2012!!!

 Betty Davidson says:

If Sarah Palin registered as a Republianand says she is a conservative thenwhy isn’t she backing JD Haysworth in Arizona? Why is shebacking John McCain and Gov. Perry? Her Actions don’tmatch her Words. If she is going to back McCain why didn’tshe register as a Democratic? Yes ,she is a RINO.

 J.R. says:

Put me in the Sarah Palin camp–but not for President. Istand firmly behind her morals and convictions, but at thistime I see her strengths best used as a leading force inCongress. I think that for her to be electable, she still needsto quiet the “hockey mom” image and prove her leadershipabilities at the national level before stepping into the racefor President. She is doing a great job for the conservativemasses–just needs a little more political grooming.

Yes, the health care bill passed. Yes, it’s an atrocitythat will expand the entitlement bracket in this

country, inflict a barrage of new taxes upon hard-working families, and balloon our national debt, among many other disastrous consequences. Yes,you have a right to be angry. But chin up, folks. The2010 elections are just around the corner. Now isyour time to shine.

Seventeen House members running for re-election in 2010 voted for Obamacare and representdistricts carried by McCain/Palin in 2008. We mustsee to it that sound conservatives take their place. As a side note, Sarah Palin recently took heat frommany in the mainstream media for pointing outthose particular seats and writing, “Don’t Retreat,Instead — RELOAD!” She was blamed for incitingviolence. Of course, it’s a bunch of garbage in light ofthe fact that Palin has repeatedly condemnedviolence. But as we know, she is subject to a differentset of media-approved rules than the Washingtonelite. Let’s look on the bright side. It provided mewith new material to support the disorder I’msubmitting to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manualof Mental Disorders. It’s called OCPD: ObsessiveCompulsive Palin Disorder. Symptoms include fierceanxiety stemming from Palin’s mention of the wordslife, common-sense, drill, and those two particularlyterror-inspiring utterances—free market and youbetcha. Subjects are prone to arrogant, Olbermannicrants, a preoccupation with making unfunny jokes(see Letterman, Family Guy, and Maher for details),and an infatuation with Palin’s wardrobe, accent, andthe writing on her hand.

Okay, back to conservative triumph in the

upcoming elections. It’s time for us to help the GOPtake back the House and Senate, as well as place anauthentic conservative in the White House in 2012.Remember that it’s not just about Republicansdefeating Democrats. It’s also about conservativesdefeating RINOs (see the Rubio/Crist race in Floridafor details). With issues like cap-and-tax andimmigration soon to be coming down the pike, it isimperative that full-blooded conservatives make biggains in 2010. They will see to it that the tenets oflimited government and constitutional integritystand in the way of legislation that would crippleAmerican industry and give the government an eventighter grip over our liberty. Let’s make the FoundingFathers proud.

I sometimes include references in my columns toa grandparent or other individual with wisdombeyond my years. It’s not because I’ve always had afondness for older generations (although that’s true). It’s because they have seen this country go throughthe highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Theyknow what it takes to overcome impending disasterand bear the kind of courage and resiliency that Ienvy. So here is the latest from a ninety-somethingfamily friend:

“This is America, for heaven’s sake! Now stopfeeling sorry for yourself, splash some cold water onyour face, and woman up! I didn’t lose half of myfriends in wars to watch a bunch of snobbyWashington guys and gals sign away my freedom ontheir lunch breaks!”

She whipped me into shape pretty quickly. 2010elections, here we come.

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) were passed into lawin 2003 and became effective January 1, 2004. They

were created with the intent to give you more control overyour own healthcare decisions and lower your overall cost- without compromising quality and choice.

Simply put, an HSA is a tax favored savings accountdesigned to pay (or save for) medical and preventive expenses withtax free dollars. Plus HSAs can provide an additional tax-deferredretirement account with the option of investment opportunities. Assuch, it is commonly referred to as a medical IRA (without many of therestrictions and penalties).

To qualify for an HSA, you must have a High Deductible HealthPlan (HDHP). HDHPs offer a more affordable approach to healthinsurance while maintaining the protection and security in the event ofa catastrophic illness or injury. In short, you use tax free funds fromyour HSA to cover medical and preventive expenses until yourdeductible is met. Once your deductible is met, your insurance kicks inand pays according to your plan design.

The concept is simple: Lower your premiums; bank the money yousave into a privately owned, interest bearing HSA; pay for medical, preventive, and alternative healthcare with tax free dollars; and loweryour taxable income while saving for your retirement. In essence, thisstrategy allows you to choose your healthcare, pay yourself, and protectyour assets by paying less to the insurance companies and the IRS.

As a national independent H.S.A. administrator, American HealthValue can work with your agent (or help you find one) to ensurethat you find the HDHP in your state that offers the best plandesign for you at the lowest possible cost. For further information please contact American Health Value at 800-914-3248 and ask for Franor visit www.americanhealthvalue.com

AARP is greatly responsible for this assault onour individual rights. In fact, House SpeakerNancy Pelosi singled them out and gave themcredit in her speech just before the vote.

AARP sold out their 36 million members. They told the Congress older Americanssupported the bill. That’s a lie.

The truth is: AARP never polled theirmembers - in fact several independent pollsclearly showed their members were against it.

AMAC, the Association of Mature AmericanCitizens, is the conservative alternative to AARP.We’re committed to growing our membership tonumber in the millions. That is the only way wewill gain sufficient influence to counter AARP onCapitol Hill.

By joining AMAC and pooling ourstrength, conservatives over the age of 50 willhave the power to repeal this ill conceived HealthCare Plan. We will reinstate the greatest healthcare system in the world whileproviding expanded benefits and improvedcoverage, and we’ll do it through privateenterprise.

Government-controlled Health Care is now thelaw of the land. But first it must pass some tests! As this is being written, legal steps are being tak-en to stop it. There will be several challenges ondifferent aspects of the legislation, but most im-portant will be whether the Federal Government

has the power, under the Con-stitution, to inter-fere with the rightsof citizens by makingthem purchase a spe-cific product (health in-surance).

Regardless of the legaloutcome, AMAC willcommunicate with our membersto inform them of how best toprotect themselves from the negativeaspects of the legislation. The manner inwhich the law was created leaves a great dealunknown as the regulations to carry out the lawhave still not been written.

We will instruct our lobbyist to fight againstthe worst of the new regulations while at thesame time we are working to repeal the law.

In order to repeal the law and replace it witha common sense, free enterprise solution, we arein the process of organizing a grass roots effort tonotify voters which way their representativesvoted. AMAC will send questionnaires to all thecandidates, compile the answers, and share itwith our members prior to the Novemberelections.

We must act now to preserve our health caresystem before it is destroyed.

RepealObamacare!

It was late Sunday night, on March 21st, when theHouse of Representativesvoted to ignore the will ofthe American people. Theygave the government powerover our medical care.

A heart-healthy diet is one that limits saturat-ed fat, trans fat, salt and dietary cholesterolwhile adding fruits, vegetables and wholegrains. It is important to learn how using certainingredients and preparation methods can resultin meals that are beneficial to heart health. Thefollowing tips may help, and if you need someinspiration when it comes to preparing heart-healthy dishes, try these two delicious and“good for you” recipes. • Limit the amount of butter, margarine andshortening you use, by replacing these ingredi-ents with olive or canola oils. • Read labels and avoid foods that state “partiallyhydrogenated” on the ingredient list - this in-dicates trans fat.

• Cut fat and reduce calories when bakingquick breads or muffins by substituting

unsweetened applesauce for half ofthe oil or shortening. If a recipe calls

for 1 cup of oil, use ½ cup apple-sauce + ½ cup of oil instead.

• Choose lean meats, poultry, and beans instead of

higher fat meats. Theleanest options will be

labeled “loin” or“round”.

• Cold water fishsuch as salmon, tuna and macker-

alternative, as they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. • Ground meats should be at least 90%lean. • Reduced-fat or part-skim cheeses aretasty and good sources of calcium. Use fullfat cheeses sparingly.• Replace whole milk with 1% or fat-free varieties.• Prepare recipes or egg dishes with eggwhites, instead of egg yolks. Substitutetwo egg whites for each egg yolk.• Select colorful fruits and vegetables, suchas carrots, berries and spinach, as they tendto be higher in vitamins and minerals.• Increase whole grains in your diet by re-placing up to half of the all-purpose flourin recipes with whole wheat flour. Insteadof adding 2 cups of all-purpose flour, for example, use 1 cup of all-purpose flour plus1 cup of whole wheat flour.• Stir frying, roasting, grilling, poaching, broiling and steaming are all cooking methods that add little fat and are prefer-able to frying.• Season foods with herbs, spices, ginger, garlic, wine or lemon juice instead of salt

Our National

Debt$12.5

Trillion andgrowing!

14 | www.amac.us

Page 15: Volume_4-Issue_2

AMAC is fighting this grave threat withthe “Mother of All Petitions”, whichdemands we cut Federal spending by10% in the next budget. (More about that later)

How did we get into such a financial mess?Put simply, our government has spent and

continues to spend more money than it istaking in. When President Bush took office theNational Debt was $6.9 trillion. By the time heleft it was $9.6 trillion, a 39% increase. Underthe Obama administration the National debtwill increase by 40% in just the first two years!

We continue to increase the debt each yearby adding to the annual budget deficit. Thisyear, there will be a shortage of $1.6 trillion.

The annual interest payment alone ($350billion dollars) takes up 13% of our budget andsince we are not paying off any of theprincipal, next year it will be even worse.

How bad can it get? Just as General Motors, once the strongest and largest corporation inAmerica went bankrupt- so can America! Oneof the early warning signs will be when thecredit rating of our bonds is lowered. Moody’s,the rating agency who ranks the credit-worthiness of borrowers using a standardizedratings scale, recently warned that the AAArating is threatened because U.S. finances areextended and could be “overstretched”.

The United Nations and China have bothproposed replacing the U.S. dollar as thedefacto world currency because of ourweakened economy.

It’s easy to understand the deep trouble

our country faces today by comparing thenational debt to a typical family budget.Imagine a family who spends more than theyearn and therefore must borrow money andtake out loans to pay their bills. If the familyspends more each year than they did theprevious year, they soon will not be able toafford to pay their loans. Consequently, theymust take out another loan to pay for a loan!Eventually, this family will be unable tocontinue borrowing, and when that happens, disaster strikes.

Just as the management of General Motorsfailed to take corrective action to protect theircorporation, our political leaders have failedin their duty as fiduciaries to protect thefinancial well being of our country. We can nolonger tolerate their irresponsible actions.

For many years we elected people runningfor office who promised to give us something-if we voted for them.

They promised us “free” governmentprograms that would help the needy andmake our lives better. But that is not whathappened.

We created a Department of Energy toreduce our dependence on foreign oil, but 25years later, after spending billions of dollarswe’re no better off. Billions more were spentfor “education” but test scores have notimproved under the government programs. The public school systems in minority areashave failed to bring the children to anacceptable level of achievement, while manyof the parents of these children plead to gettheir kids into charter schools which are based

The National Debt is moredangerous to the United States thanany enemy our country faces today. It has the potential to bring our economy into a

massive depression. It allows foreign entities to

influence the policies of our government and it has

created a huge burden that must be paid for by our

children and future generations.

on the private education model. We now have a president and Congress who tells us

that the government will keep paying us money aslong as we are unemployed; that the government willpay our mortgages if we get behind and that ourchildren are “entitled “to a college education.

However the people have finally come tounderstand that these promises are not sensible orvalid. The people know that we shouldn’t be borrowingand spending more money to stimulate the economy, especially at a time like this when we need to reducedebt and get our fiscal house in order. This is not thetime to waste more of the taxpayers’ hard earnedmoney on questionable projects that the Federal

government has no business getting into in the first place.

Now is the time to fund only the barenecessities and tighten our fiscal belts.

To help bring more attention tothis looming threat AMAC has

begun circulating a petitiondemanding a 10% cut in

federal spending.

“I sincerelybelieve that

that theprinciple of

They are not Government insti-

She takes the crying baby into her arms, turns her back on

the hysterical mother, and walks off into the night. If she's

caught, she and the baby will die. "Promise me my child will

live!" the mother cries desperately after her. She turns for a

moment. "I can't promise that. But I can promise that if he

stays with you, he will die."

The life of Irena Sendler is not only remarkable, but also aninspirational story of heroism and selfless acts of humankindness. Irena Sendler, born in 1910, was raised by her Catholicparents to respect and love people regardless of their ethnicityor social status. Her father, a physician, died from typhus thathe contracted during an epidemic in 1917. He was the onlydoctor in his town near Warsaw who would treat the poor, mostly Jewish victims of this tragic disease. As he was dying, hetold 7-year-old Irena, “If you see someone drowning you musttry to rescue them, even if you cannot swim.” In 1939 the Nazisswept through Poland and imprisoned the Jews in ghettoswhere they were first starved to death and then systematicallymurdered in killing camps. Irena, by then a social worker inWarsaw, saw the Jewish people drowning and resolved to dowhat she could to rescue as many as possible, especially thechildren. Working with a network of other social workers andbrave Poles, mostly women, she smuggled 2,500 children out ofthe Warsaw ghetto and hid them safely until the end of the war.

Sendler took great risks –obtaining forged papers forthe children, disguisingherself as an infection controlnurse, diverting Germanoccupation funds for thesupport of children in hiding. She entered the Warsawghetto, sometimes two andthree times a day, and talkedJewish parents into giving uptheir children. Sendlerdrugged the babies withsedatives and smuggled thempast Nazi guards in gunnysacks, boxes and coffins.Infants were often smuggledout in the bottom of her toolbox or in a burlap sack.

She also had a dog that she trained to bark when the Nazisoldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers of coursewanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered thechildren’s noises. Shehelped the older onesescape through thesewers, through secretopenings in the wall, through the courthouse, through churches, anyclever way she and hernetwork could evade theNazis.

Mrs. Sendler listedthe name and newidentity of every rescuedchild on thin cigarette papers or tissue paper. She hid the list inglass jars and buried them under an apple tree in her friend'sbackyard.

In 1943 she was arrested by the Gestapo and sentenced todeath by firing squad. She withstood the torture and refused tobetray any of her associates or the children in hiding. Her feetand legs were broken but no one could break her spirit. Irenaspent three months in prison until her underground contactsbribed a guard to secure her freedom.

After the war, she dug up the jars containing the children'sidentities and attempted to find the children and return themto their parents. However, almost all of their parents had beenkilled at the Treblinka extermination camp or had otherwisegone missing.

Today's Warsaw still bears testimony to Mrs. Sendler'slifesaving work. The corner store where children were hidden inthe basement and the apple tree where the names of thechildren where buried still stand, all within sight of the Germanarmy barracks.

Irena Sendler’s selflessness and acts of human kindnessendure through the many lives she heroically saved.

With so many of today’s new homes constructed withgorgeous patio spaces, doesn’t it stand to reason that

with a little thought and pre-planning these spaces canbecome an exciting extension of your home’s indoor space? So, where do you begin, and how do you master the design ofusing your outdoor space to flow naturally with your indoorspace? Here are a few things to consider before creating theoutdoor space of your dreams.

It all starts with a plan! Begin by first noting all of the eventsyour family will want to plan outdoors. Large gatherings andfamily events will call for one type of plan. Conversely, anoutdoor space designed for two to relax and unwind willdictate a totally different set of priorities.

Once you consider the activities you want to accommodatein your new outdoor space, you may consider creating specificspaces for specific events. For example, activities such asoutdoor cooking, on a grill or a customized outdoor kitchen, might be best suited in one area, with casual dining inanother. Area rugs are a great way to help separate and definespaces. Today’s area rugs are available in many shapes, sizesand colors.

Secondly, creating the right landscape design to surroundyour outdoor space can make all the difference. Shrubbery, flowers, and architectural accents will play an important rolein the overall design. Give special consideration to the plantsyou chose to surround your space. Which plants are you mostfond of? Is your outdoor space facing North, South, East orWest? Be sure to choose the right plants based on how muchsun or lack thereof they need to thrive. You can create anaesthetically pleasing view that offers delicious scentsthroughout your outdoor space with the right plantings.

Furniture - Comfort andStyle are Key! Outdoorfurniture has evolveddramatically through theyears. Fabric choices arevirtually limitless, as fabricscan now be specially treatedto withstand the elements.Natural fibers such aswicker, rattan, teak andbamboo are among themany choices available inoutdoor furniture. Featuringa myriad of design styles, outdoor furnishings havenever been more stylish, chic or comfortable.

Comfort, of course, should rein supreme as youmake your furnitureselections. After all, you’re creating a relaxing and fun outdoorspace – one in which you can totally enjoy yourself. And, asalways, try to arrange your outdoor furniture just like youwould arrange your indoor furniture – with special care givento conversation and convenience!

Above all, remember to create a space that is perfect foryou and your family. Your newly created outdoor space isguaranteed to be one where memories are made. Take timefor careful planning, and you won’t be disappointed. That’s apromise!

North DakotaThe retirement of Byron

Dorgan (D) and the entrance ofGovernor John Hoeven (R ) intothe race have made a Republi-can pickup almost certain.

DelawareRepublicans will almost

certainly take Vice President JoeBiden’s old seat, now held byTed Kaufman (D). RepublicanMichael Castle (R) is a formergovernor, currently holds the at-large House seat, and is a mod-erate in tune with the state. Thestrength of his candidacy hasscared away Democrats’ topchoice to run, Beau Biden, theAttorney General and son of theVice President.

ArkansasSenator Blanche Lincoln

(D) has been in trouble formany months. Her approvalnumbers are dismal, as are Pres-ident Obama’s numbers inArkansas. The only potentialsaving grace for Lincoln hadbeen that she had not attracteda top-tier Republican opponent, although the Republicans in therace led her in matchup polls. Now Rep. John Boozman (R)has joined the race, and a recentpoll shows him up by 23 points.

NevadaIf the first three races are nearly slam dunks for

Republicans, Nevada ranks slightly lower but has a very goodchance for a Republican pickup. Senate Majority LeaderHarry Reid is in significant trouble. He has very low approvalnumbers. By these numbers alone, Reid should lose, but someweakness among his opponents and his prolific fundraisinggive him a shot of winning. Republican candidates SueLowden and Danny Tarkanian both poll ahead of Reid, so therace favors the Republicans.

ColoradoMichael Bennet (D) was appointed to this seat when Ken

Salazar joined the Obama cabinet. He had never held electiveoffice previously. He also has a primary challenge fromColorado’s Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff, whocould be a more formidable candidate. Republicans haveLieutenant Governor Jane Norton as their likely nominee, andshe polls favorably against Bennet and Romanoff.

PennsylvaniaArlen Specter was right to think that he had little chance

of winning reelection to his Senate seat as a Republican. PatToomey (R) would almost certainly have beaten him in theprimary. Now the irony runs deep, as Specter has a toughchallenge to win a Democratic primary with Rep. Joe Sestakopposing him. And Toomey polls well against both Specterand Sestak. Add to this a strong likely GOP gubernatorialcandidate in Attorney General Tom Corbett , that Toomey isunopposed in his primary and has moved a bit to the middle, and the wind blowing in the Republican direction, and theGOP has a better than even chance of winning here.

IllinoisMark Kirk (R) is a perfect candidate for Republicans to

take Barack Obama’s seat, now held by Roland Burris. Kirk isa moderate from suburban Chicago, conservative oneconomic and defense issues and with moderate social views. He will face Alexi Giannoulias, the state treasurer, who couldbe a strong candidate, but who has potential baggage with aninvestigation of his family’s bank and with his ties to formerDemocratic Governor Rod Blagojevich. Kirk has an evenchance of winning.

IndianaDemocratic Sen. Evan Bayh’s decision not to seek re-

election has given Republican hopefuls a decided advantagein the race for his Indiana seat. Two of the three topRepublican hopefuls for the U.S. Senate in Indiana continue

to hold double-digit leads over Democratic Congressman Brad Ellsworth.Ellsworth supported President Obama’s health care plan in a state whereopposition to the legislation is higher than it is nationally. Recent polls showCongressman John Hostettler with a 50% to 32% lead over Ellsworth and ex-Senator Dan Coats now posts a 49% to 34% lead over Ellsworth.

MissouriRepublican Roy Blunt continues to hold a slight lead over Democrat

Robin Carnahan in Missouri’s contest for the U.S. Senate. These findings andthe high level of opposition to the national health care plan in the stateperhaps help to explain why Carnahan wasn’t around when President Obamacame to Missouri to pitch his plan. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephonesurvey of likely voters in the state finds Blunt leading Carnahan 47% to 41%.Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and eight percent (8%) areundecided.

New Hampshire Two Republican hopefuls now post 10-point leads over likely Democratic

nominee Paul Hodes in New Hampshire’s U.S. Senate race. A new RasmussenReports telephone survey of likely voters in the state again finds formerAttorney General Kelly Ayotte leading Hodes, who has no major challengersfor his party’s Senate nomination. This time, she posts a 47% to 37% lead overHodes. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and 12% areundecided.

OhioNone of the top contenders for the U.S. Senate in Ohio are gaining

ground at this point, with Republican Rob Portman still holding a modestlead. The latest telephone survey of likely voters in the state finds Portmanleading Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher 44 percent to 39 percent. This isvirtually identical to the lead Portman posted last month. Five percent (5percent) prefer some other candidate, and 12 percent are undecided. Portmanholds a 43 percent to 37 percent lead over Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, and this, too, is little changed from the previous survey.

KentuckyThe two strongest Republican Senate hopefuls in Kentucky have edged

further ahead of their top Democrat challengers in the latest RasmussenReports telephone survey of voters in the state. Ophthalmologist Rand Paulleads Democratic Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo 51% to 34%.

New YorkSenator Kirsten Gillibrand is considered to be a relatively weak candidate

vulnerable to a challenge. Gillibrand was chosen by Governor Paterson toreplace Clinton but the former congresswoman has failed to solidify herposition. New Yorkers are waiting to see if former Republican Governor GeorgePataki enters the race. He leads Gillibrand in polls and would give Republicansa real shot of winning the seat. Also in the race for the GOP are New Yorkattorney Bruce Blakeman and Former Westchester congressman JoeDioGuardi.

Government Watch

Did you know the Obamaadministration is considering a novelway of financing trillion-dollarbudget deficits – demanding IRA and401(k) holders buy trillions of dollarsin Treasury bonds? The administration

is scrambling to find ways tosell government debtwithout having to raiseinterest rates.

Bloomberg reportedthat the U.S. TreasuryDepartment and theDepartment of Laborare planning to stage apublic-comment periodbefore implementingregulations that would

require private investors to structureIRA and 401(k) accounts into whatcould amount to a U.S. Treasury debt-backed government annuity.

But the agencies are getting seriouspushback from the mutual fundindustry, objecting to what somefinancial planners see as a governmentattempt to divert hundreds of billionsof dollars of private retirementaccounts into federal governmentdebt. Americans are also smarter thanthe administration seems to believe. Asurvey by the Investment CompanyInstitute found that more than 70% ofall households responding disagreedwith the idea of requiring a retiree tobuy an annuity with a portion of theirassets.

Let's hope the rhetoric theadministration is getting ready todeploy doesn't fool the averageinvestor. If the government succeeds, your IRA might end up in the samemess as Medicare and Social Security.

CPAC has become the most powerful national annualconvention for conservatives and this year’s conferencewas different than those of years past. More than ever,right-leaning Americans are looking towardconservatives for answers, and for the first time, themessage from CPAC speakers was one of confidence andreassurance.

Glenn Beck's speech was a call for Republicans toadmit the error of their ways and return to theirconservative roots. Other speakers focused on the coreaspects of the conservative movement: smallgovernment, free enterprise and a strong nationaldefense. The biggest speakers at CPAC provided a hint asto who will be the hottest conservative leaders over thenext couple of years. They were Marco Rubio, MikePence, Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, and Newt Gingrich.

The conference was a tremendous success, bringingvarious factions on the right together due to a commonaversion towards the current federal governmentbailouts, spending, and takeover of healthcare.

AMAC has revised its health care proposal based on thefeedback and suggestions of its members. We’re listening, andwe hear you loud and clear!

Because of the overwhelming response to the release ofAMAC’s Health Care proposal and the many suggestionsreceived, AMAC has removed the requirements that coveragewould be mandated.

In the original proposal, coverage would have beenrequired for individuals who have no coverage and foremployees eligible for group coverage but who were not in theplan. Under the revised proposal, both individuals andemployees may elect to opt out of the offered coverage.

According to Dan Weber, president of AMAC, ”The reasonthe coverage would have been mandated was to assurepreexisting illnesses would not be excluded.”

He said, “It won’t work if people choose not to pay apremium and when they get sick, buy insurance-and then goto the hospital and expect insurance to cover their bill. Thatwould be unfair to those who were paying into the plan allalong.”

The new proposal would allow a person to sign off agreeingthat they are not going to be covered for injuries or illness thatoccurred prior to the purchase of the policy. A waiting periodwould be put in place before illness is covered; the rates paidby someone who opted out of joining the plan when eligiblewould be increased for a period of 10 years after they join theplan.

Weber said, “The final details would have to be worked outwith the actuaries but we feel over 95% of those eligible wouldwant to participate. If that happens, we have got a plan that isfeasible.”

AMAC also announced that insurance coverage would beallowed to be purchased across state lines, pending theagreement of the various states. Tort reform would beexpanded under the new proposal with attorney’s fees beingcapped at 15% of any settlement payments.

The 9-12 Project ~ The Nine Principles1. America is good. 2. I believe in God and He is the center of my life. 3. I must always try to be a more honest person

than I was yesterday. 4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the

ultimate authority, not the government. 5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice

is blind and no one is above it. 6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of

happiness, but there is no guarantee of equalresults.

7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.

8. It is not un-American for me to disagree withauthority or to share my personal opinion.

9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

Parting Thought

“Never be bullied into silence. Neverallow yourself to be made a victim.Accept no one's definition of yourlife; define yourself.

Consult not your fears but yourhopes and your dreams.

Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilledpotential.

Concern yourself not with what youtried and failed in, but with what itis still possible for you to do.”
