This
past Sunday,
April 22, we
had our first
major philan-
thropy event,
Dodge ball for
Diabetes. The
event oc-
curred in the
Field House
and had 16
teams of 5
each and
many other
spectators. The event
was a huge success. An
estimated $1600 was
raised to send children
with type 1 diabetes to
day camps to learn
about their disease and
how to live with it.
The event was
organized by philanthro-
py committee chairmen
Mike Howard and Joe
Kim. They, with the help
of many other Delts,
raised donations from
local businesses and
organizations, such as
Associated Residence
Halls, United Slater As-
sociation, Hy-Vee, Jimmy
Johns, and Best Buy,
who also donated a Blu-
ray player for our raffle.
The tournament,
along with
the Blu-
Ray player,
was won
by one of
the two
teams that
Phi Delta
Theta Fra-
ternity
sent to
support
our philan-
thropy.
We have
received feedback from
multiple Fraternities and
Sororities compliment-
ing us on our well orga-
nized and fun philan-
thropy event, and we
cannot wait for our tour-
nament next spring.

ALUMNI NEWSLETTER
ALUM EV EN T This coming
football season, Fall of
2012, we are looking
into hosting an alumni
tailgate during the
Central Michigan
game. As a new colony
we want to build our
alumni relations as
best we can. A good
old fashioned tailgate
at the University of
Iowa should allow us
to get to know our
alumni better. It will
be essential to the
growth of our fraterni-
ty to have the support
of our alumni behind
us, which is why we
would hope to have a
big turn out with the
alumni at this event.
The event is in the
making and won’t be
finalized until mid-
summer. Look out for
more information re-
garding the tailgate.

During
the week of April
15th to the 21st,
the Greek commu-
nity at the Univer-
sity of Iowa held
daily events for
fraternity and so-
rority members to
show up at. The
events ranged
from Greek Olym-
pics to dancing to guest
speakers. The goal of this
week is to show the com-
munity what being Greek is
all about and to break the
stereotypes portrayed in
Old School or Animal
House.
The theme of the week
was Real Greeks of Iowa
City, and every event that
was held was worth points
and the team (which was
combined chapters) with
the most points was the
winners of Greek week. We
started the week off by
winning the ultimate Fris-
bee game by a land-slide
which was a good way to
start the week off at the
Olympics. After that events
started to get harder con-
sidering it helps a lot to
have big chapters and we
just did not have the num-
bers to keep up with every-
one else. Even though the
Delts came up short of
winning this time, the skit
we did at the famous fol-
lies event portrayed this
theme very well and re-
ceived many compliments
from various chapters at
Iowa as being one of the
best ones of the night.
The week was a good way
for the community to see
Delts in action and we real-
ly got our name out there
and made many friends
along the way, especially
with the Chi Omega’s, who
now love us. Next year the
Delts are going to accept
nothing less than first
place considering the guys
we are accumulating in our
colony.

A YEAR I N REV I EW
GR E E K WE E K
ended the year with no
tickets which we have
maintained through the
second semester and
we are working to main-
tain for as long as we
can. First semester end-
ed with a formal at Ta-
kanami, a sushi restau-
rant in Iowa City, which
was one of our first
events where we really
got to meet the rest of
the guys and start creat-
ing bonds between each
other. Second semester
we had around six so-
cials with sororities. We
had the socials with,
Alpha Xi Delta, Delta
Zeta, Alpha Chi Omega,
and Alpha Delta Pi.
Throughout the year we
have participated in
multiple community ser-
vice events and have
really helped not just
the Iowa City community
but we have been able
to help other communi-
ties around Iowa City.
For our first philanthro-
py, Dodge Ball for Dia-
betes, we raised over a
thousand dollars. To
really end our year we
had this semester’s for-
mal at Takanami again,
but this time there was
an entirely different at-
mosphere and it was
safe to say fun was had
by all. This was a great
way to end the semes-
ter. For the future we
are planning on getting
chartered as early as we
can next year. We are
not worried about re-
cruitment because we
continue have are good
reputation here on Iowa.

These past two se-
mesters at the Universi-
ty of Iowa have been a
very interesting time to
be a member of Delta
Tau Delta. At the begin-
ning of this school year
most of us were not sure
what we wanted out of
our college experience
some were considering
fraternities and some
planned on not ever
joining one. The people
from central office start-
ed to gather people into
the brotherhood that we
have now. We gained
and lost people over the
course of the first se-
mester. We passed our
by-laws and mapped out
our plan for the Omicron
Crescent Colony at the
University of Iowa. We

Meet Taylor
McPherson a fresh-
man here at the
University of Iowa.
He is 18 and from
Altoona, Iowa. He
is a finance major
who hopes to be-
come a financial
advisor after col-
lege. When asked
about his favorite
part of the fraterni-
ty so far he replied,
“the networking in-
volved with the
Greek community
and brotherhood.”
Currently he
is just a Joe Delt
and does not have
a position on the
administrative or
the executive
board, but he plans
on taking up the
Homecoming and
Greek Week chair
starting next se-
mester.
When asked
about his futures
goals for the
fraternity Taylor
replied, “I want
to see us as
one of the top
houses on cam-
pus. I want to
have a good
reputation.”

bar set as high as our
hopes.
Our primary goal is
to get chartered. This has
been the goal since the
colony started, but now it
becomes a tangible reality
in the coming months.
There were several things
we must accomplish be-
fore be considered for a
charter, with recruitment
in numbers standing as
the last obstacle. While it
is hard to put a date on
this great achievement,
we are optimistic for the
coming fall.
While
a charter
may be a
high priority,
we do not want to lose what
makes our colony great and
unique. We look to become
the house on campus with
the highest GPA as well as
raising the most philanthro-
py money of any house on
campus. We also look to
draw in many new pledges
and recruits, thus expanding
our relationship with this
campus and becoming more
prevalent in the Greek com-
munity.
With high hopes and
many good men to carry the
tall orders we are optimistic
and excited for the eventful
year ahead.

The past year culminat-
ed in the fact that a new
colony of Delts was in-
troduced at the Universi-
ty of Iowa. In October
2011, 40 men were
chosen to reinstate the
Omicron colony at the
University. The struggles
from the first semester
as a colony are hard to
exemplify. In reality, we
lost many men and mo-
rale hit an all time low.
But coming back in the
Spring, we were all
ready to make our chap-
ter the best on campus.
Through diligent work
we accomplished more
than we could have an-
ticipated and are looking
to the next year with a
