New Formation Director Sister Pat LeonardSister Patricia Leon-ard, OP, has served in a variety of ministries. In her latest ministry as Director of Formation, she guides candidates and novices through the discern-ment process and prepares the sisters under temporary vows for renewal or perpetual profession of vows.

Sister Pat met the Adrian Do-minicans as a student at St. James School in Miami. At 18, she entered the Congregation and taught in Tole-do and Florida. She served as dean of residents for the boarding school at Rosarian Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida and worked for 10 years in the Finance Office at the Motherhouse.

While at St. Leonard’s Ministries, a Chicago-based residential program for former prison inmates, Sister Pat served first as finance director and then at St. Andrew’s Court, a second-stage apartment building for former St. Leonard’s residents. While there, she earned her degree in social work through the University of Illinois-Chicago. She also served in Chicago’s Office of Catholic Schools and was a guidance counselor at Maria High School in Chicago. In June, 2008, she was invited to con-sider serving as formation director.

Success StoryThe Michael Barlow Center (MBC), the education and training component of St. Leonard’s Ministries, has logged a number of success stories since its opening in 2005.

Willy came to the MBC with an eighth-grade education and no knowledge of computers, Willy started coming to the MBC’s computer lab, where he earned all five certificates in such areas as the Internet and word processing. From there, he graduated from the building maintenance class in October and the high school completion program in December. While still involved in those courses, he took part in the transitional job program, attending classes in the morning and working from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Willy plans to become a youth counselor, and has already started college applications. He credits the Michael Barlow Center with his success. “I got excited about learning,” he said. “This is a great place to learn.”

Welcome New Associates

Mary Lach, an Adri-an Dominican asso-ciate since 2000, be-came the Director of Associate Life July 1, 2009. She oversees

a program that includes about 185 associates; women and men who make a non-vowed com-mitment to the Congregation’s Mission and Ministry.

Active in Associate Life, Mary is well-prepared for her new posi-tion. She served as an at-large member of the Associate Ad-visory Board and, along with others, worked on the Associate Scholarship Fund. She serves as the secretary for her mis-sion group, Peacemakers, in the Great Lakes Mission Chapter.

Mary has served as a pastoral minister at St. Ephrem Parish in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and at St. Paul of Tarsus Parish in Clinton Township, Michigan. Mary graduated magna cum laude from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.

She and her husband, Theirry Lach, have two children, Laura and Andrew, both young adults.
