How do I add ENERGY AND EMPHASIS to my public speaking? 5. Adding ENERGY AND EMPHASIS Be energetic when you speak! Think about energetically reaching across space to your listeners- bringing your voice to them. EMPHASIS is the force, or stress you place on important ideas, concepts or feelings. Nothing turns off audiences more than straining to hear, or being aware of the distance between them and the speaker. 6. What is Pitch inflection? 7. About Pitch inflection: A pitch that doesnt change is a MONO- TONE. Monotonous is a synonym for BORING. Pitch inflection means to raise or lower your pitch on the musical scale. By inflecting your pitch, you will avoid monotony and exchange more meaning with the audience. 8. How can rhythm help you with public speaking? 9. Rhythm of Message Rhythm of Singing 1. Verse A 2. Chorus 3. Verse B 4. Chorus 5. Bridge 6. Verse C 7. Chorus Rhythm of Speaking 1. First Story in speech 2. Takeaway message 3. Second story in speech 4. Takeaway message 5. Change in message- ask a question, or discuss 6. Third story 7. Takeaway message 10. Why does pacing yourself during a speech matter to an audience? 11. PACE: GET IT JUST RIGHT TOO FAST! Adrenaline always kicks in when you speak in public. if you had a tendency to speak too quickly before, youll certainly do so in that important presentation! TOO SLOW! There are people who draw out their syllables, and add unnecessary pauses in their speech. The gaps in between words are not purposeful, so the audience loses interest quickly.
