Allusion- An indirect reference, often to another text or an historic event.Analogy- An extended comparison between two seemingly dissimilar things.

Annotation- Explanatory or critical notes added to a text.Antonym-. A word having a meaning opposite to that of another word
Audience- Ones listeners or readership; those to whom a speech or piece of writing is addressed

Chronological Order-presents ideas according to the time in which they occurredClich- A tired expression.Classification- You put an object with a group of like things.
Concrete- Something that can be perceived through any of five senses.Denotation- The literal meaning of word; its dictionary definition.
Connotation- That which is implied by a word, as opposed to the words literal meaning. Diction- Word Choice.Colloquialisms- An informal or conversation use of language.
Contributory Cause- something less important that speeds up an effect. Digression-The use of material unrelated to the subject of a workDominant impression-in descriptive writing is the principal effect the author wishes to create for the

Euphemism- From the Greek for good speech, when referring to something unpleasant orembarrassing) a mild or less direct word used rather than one that is blunt or may be consideredoffensive.
Exemplification- to show or illustrate by example.
Etymology- an account of the origins and the developments in meaning of a word.
Exposition- a detailed description and explanation of a theory.
Ethos- A Greek term referring to the character of a person; one of Aristotles three rhetorical appeals
Pathos- A Greek term that refers to suffering but has come to be associated with broader appeals toemotion ; one of Aristotles three rhetorical appeals.
Logos- A Greek term that means; an appeal to logic; one of Aristotles three rhetorical appeals.
