    1 Task, Function and Design

The LP main steam piping system feeds the LP part of the ST with superheated LP steam produced in the HRSGs. The superheated LP steam of the HRSGs is released to the LP main steam lines which are routed to a common header. The LP main steam line from each HRSG can be isolated by a motorized main steam shutoff valve. From the header the steam is routed via a strainer to the emergency stop valve/control valve combination of the ST. The strainer in the LP main steam line protects the steam turbine. The line to the common LP bypass station taps off from the common header up-stream of the strainer. The strainer drain line is equipped with a motor-operated shutoff valve for removal of condensate and a sludge trap for the reception of deposits. The drain and warm up line upstream ST is equipped with a motor-operated shutoff valve for warming-up. Drain and warm-up line which is routed to the HRSG start-up and shutdown system LBH is equipped with a motor-operated isolating valve for warming-up, a steam trap for removal of condensate during shutdown and a sludge trap for the reception of de-posits. Pressure and temperature measuring points are arranged on the steam line.

2 Modes of Operation 2.1 Preparations

The ST condensing system MAG, the circulating water system PAB and the boiler start-up and shutdown system LBH have to be in operation. The LP bypass control has to be on AUTO mode. 2.2 Start-up and Shutdown

Start-up The start-up of the LP main steam piping system consists mainly of the material warm-up to avoid condensed water drops entering the turbine. A controlled warm-up of the ST emergency stop valve/control valve is not necessary owing to their low wall thickness. The HRSGs have to be taken into operation one after the other. The LP main steam shutoff valve of the steam line referring to the HRSG which shall be taken into opera-tion is opened in two steps for pressure equalization. The LP MS shutoff valve of the second HRSG stays closed. The controls of the drain and warm-up valves in the LP main steam lines are acti-vated. This means water and steam are dumped until the LP steam is sufficiently su-perheated. As soon as the steam generation commences in the LP evaporator, the pressure in the LP system increases. The LP bypass control valve begins to open under pressure control once the operating pressure is achieved. The turbine emergency stop valve opens according to the ST start-up program. The LP steam supply to the steam turbine can be started by opening of the ST control valve if the requirements for steam quality and quantity are fulfilled and the ST has been loaded to a minimum load via HP and IP main steam system. Then the turbine bypass-station closes subsequently. For start-up of the second HRSG the motorized LP main steam shutoff valve is kept closed until the target pressure of the first HRSG is met. Then the LP main steam shutoff valve of the second HRSG is opened. If the ST requirements for LP steam quality are not fulfilled before reaching the operating pressure of the first HRSG both HRSGs are taken temporarily to LP bypass operation again by reducing the LP by-pass pressure setpoint below the setpoint of the LP ST control valves until the LP steam quality requirements are met again.

Shutdown For the shutdown of the ST, the LP turbine valves are closed. The steam that is still produced in the LP part of the HRSGs is routed via the common LP bypass station to the condenser. In case of a ST trip the LP turbine emergency stop valve is closed and the LP bypass station is opened immediately to avoid lifting of safety valves. If the LP bypass station does not open, the pressure increase is limited by safety valves in the LP part of the HRSGs. If a HRSG trips or the corresponding LP main steam shutoff valve is closed the shut-down program of the SGC LP STEAM SYSTEM will be initiated by protection signal. For isolating of one HRSG from the running power plant for repair or maintenance, the LP main steam shutoff valve and the manual HRSG isolating valve are closed, the visible drain valve between both valves has to be opened. 2.3 Operation, Closed and Open Loop Controls During normal plant operation the steam produced in the HRSGs is routed to the ST by the LP main steam piping system. Main steam piping warm-up prior to ST start-up is controlled by opening and closing of the warm-up and drain valves. Drain and Warm-up Valve Control in the LP Main Steam Piping System: The drain and warm-up valves in the LP main piping system open if the superheating drops below 15K to warm-up the LP main steam piping. The drain and warm-up valves close if the steam superheating is higher than 20K. The superheating is the difference between the actual temperature and the saturation temperature at the ac-tual pressure. These values comply to the HEI-requirements. The drain and warm-up valves are kept closed during HRSG shutdown in order to maintain the LP steam pressure and due to not allowance to lead condensate to the not evacuated condenser (MAG). Arising condensate during shutdown is removed by the steam trap in the bypass line of the motorized drain and warm-up valve (only applied for the drain- and warm-up lines which are routed to the boiler start-up and shutdown system LBH). Protection Closing of the Drain and Warm-up Valves upstream of the ST: Protection closing of the warm-up valve is performed if the superheating exceeds 30K or in case of insufficient condenser vacuum or inoperable condenser cooling. The superheating is the difference between the actual temperature and the saturation temperature of the actual pressure. Protection Closing of the LP Main Steam Shutoff Valves: If the water level of the LP drum exceeds the High High level the LP main steam shutoff valve in the referring steam line will be closed to protect the ST against water ingress.
