Assessment

Students are assessed continuously throughout the semester by theory examinations, lab

evaluations, assignments, quizzes, project work etc. In order to enhance the higher order

thinking capability of the students and to test their knowledge in applying the concepts learned,

the theory examinations are usually conducted as open note book exams. The lab experiments

are also made challenging and innovative. Students also execute inter disciplinary team projects

called Engineering Clinics every semester. The evaluation of these projects are also done

continuously through student presentations and the final evaluation is done by industry experts

during an expo.

The examination system of the University

Every faculty member is trained to set high-order-thinking (HOT) questions which are

challenging. Invigilation and evaluation of answers scripts is also a part of faculty academic

assignment. The examination system of the University is designed to test systematically the

student's progress in class and laboratory through continuous evaluation system. Students are

given three periodical Continuous Assessment Tests (CAT), short quizzes, home assignments,

seminars and tutorials. The final result in each course is calculated on the basis of this

continuous assessment and performance throughout semester.

The weightage for theory and practical varies from course to course. All theory exams are open

note book exams where all the questions are application oriented and higher order thinking.

Continuous evaluation is carried out in all labs for a particular subject. Every student needs to

solve the given problems/ programs in the lab period and assessed by faculty by the end of

each lab. All lab experiments are based on design and application of concepts learned in the

theory classes. The students handle state of the art equipment to solve real world problems.

For each course a set of question papers are prepared by individual faculty. These question

papers are put through a moderation panel consisting of senior faculty in that domain. On the

examination day any of the moderated paper can be picked randomly by the examination

department. Similarly, the evaluation is done by faculty who are allotted answer scripts of the

same course randomly to maintain anonymity. Revaluation and grade sheet generation are all

facilitated by our in-house online software VTOP. This provides additional anonymity between

student and faculty.
