At the forefront of revolutionary change using digital technologies
Virtual reality is the term used to describe a three-dimensional, computer generated environment which can be explored and interacted with by a person.
That person becomes part of this virtual world or is immersed within this environment and whilst there, is able to manipulate objects or perform a series of actions.
The person wears a head-mounted display (HMD) or glasses which displays three-dimensional images as part of their experience

What is Virtual Reality
Committed to providing the bestlearning and teaching experience through innovative technology
The possibilities of VR and education are endless and bring many advantages to pupils of all ages.
However very few are creating content that may be used for educational purposes-VR has up until now been seen as a very expensive medium.
Advantage of VR is that it enables large groups of students to interact with each other as well as within a three dimensional environment
It is able to present complex data in an accessible way to students which is both fun and easy to learn
Plus these students can interact with the objects in that environment in order to discover more about them

Reasons and Benefits of VR?
We live in a technological society and South Staffordshire College can be at the forefront of this new emerging area
Education has moved on from books, pencils and pens to the use of interactive technologies to help impart knowledge and understanding
AR was seen as a gimmick three years ago when we introduced it at South Staffs, but is now recognised by funders and Ofsted as an innovative educational medium
It makes sense to implement virtual reality as one of several forms of technology in order to educate tomorrow‘s technological elite and it utilises google software technology

Create interactive engaging learning for all our curriculum
There has been significant interest in virtual reality as the hardware and software has evolved in leaps and bounds. With the upcoming launch of Sony’s Project Morpheus, the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive and Microsoft’s HoloLens amongst others, virtual reality is becoming an accessible medium for education.
The most cost effective virtual reality solution available to everybody right now is Google Cardboard. It requires nothing more than your existing smartphone and a cardboard frame with a couple of cheap lenses inside.
Google have released the design as open source so you can make your own or buy one online for less than £5. Not only is the hardware cheap for consumers but developing applications which support it is low cost and the results can be amazing.
BUT AT WHAT COST? – Google apps ,an Idea, a Free App and ……….

War Of Words
‘War Of Words: VR’ uses virtual reality to take you back to 1916, and into a mind-set captured by Siegfried Sassoon in his controversial poem ‘The Kiss’.The poet describes preparing a rifle for battle. Following the bullet fired from the rifle will lead the viewer to the second part of the poem. The 'kiss' described by the writer is a metaphor for the act of bayoneting an enemy soldier.
