The Great Thanksgiving... All baptized, believing Christians are welcome to the Lord’s Table. Come forward down the center aisle, pick up a glass and follow the directions of the ushers. Glasses of grape juice are available in the center of the tray. Gluten free wafers are available. If you are unable to come to the altar, please inform an usher so that the Eucharist may be brought to you.
For Children Ages 2—6: Busy Bags are available near the Growing in Faith Together (GIFT) Table in the back of the sanctuary. One bag per child, please, and return bags to the bin following worship. Nursery care: There will be no nursery care during the service.
Our re-creation in baptism is an image of the Genesis creation, where the Spirit/wind moved over the waters. Both Mark’s gospel and the story in Acts make clear that it is the Spirit’s movement that distinguishes Jesus’ baptism from John’s. The Spirit has come
upon us as upon Jesus and the Ephesians, calling us God’s beloved children and setting us on Jesus’ mission to re-create the world in the image of God’s vision of justice and peace.

Winter Coat (& Sock) Drive Do you have a winter coat that sits in your closet? Has your child outgrown a winter coat? On the weekend of January 13 and 14 we will be collecting winter coats. Adult’s coats will be donated to the Caring Center in Pemberton, where they will help out the homeless and less fortunate in our area. The children's coats will be donated to Bridge of Peace in Camden to help the needy children who accompany their parents at their Food Pantry who are in need of a coat. This year, we’d also like to add adult size socks to the drive. New socks are the number one most needed item of clothing for homeless people. Coats and socks can be placed in the box that will be in Narthex that weekend.
Martin Luther King Community Celebration
Every year, America pauses on the weekend closest to the birthday of the Reverend Doctor
Martin Luther King Jr. to remember his birthday. This year, the remembrance will be the weekend of January 13 through 15, 2018. The Rancocas valley Clergy Association will once again offer a community dinner at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Mount Holly on Saturday night, January 13. Using the theme “Martin Luther King – A Man for All People”, Dr. Chaz Howard, university chaplain at the University of Pennsylvania, will be the speaker at this dinner. He has chosen “Bridging the Gap” as the focus of his presentation. Music will be provided by the Wagner Alumni Choir of Philadelphia. Look to our FYI for further information about this dinner. The next day, we have the honor of hosting the community worship service, which will begin at 6:30 PM in our sanctuary. Rabbi Tiferet Berenbaum, newly appointed rabbi at Temple Har Zion, will be our keynote speaker for this service. She will bring us a unique perspective into her faith journey – an African American woman raised in the Baptist tradition, attended Catholic parochial school in her youth, converted to Judaism as an adult and is now a rabbi! The choir from Rancocas Valley Regional High School will be our music leaders for this service.
On Monday, Martin Luther King Day itself, the Friends Meeting House in Mount Holly will be offering an “open mic” session during the day for people to come and speak about the impact of Dr. King on their own lives. At the Saturday and Sunday events, a free will offering will be collected to assist the clergy association in its on-going social ministry efforts in all of the surrounding neighborhoods.
Church Snow Removal The Property Team is working to coordinate snow removal from the sidewalk and entryways to the church. While the parking lot will be plowed, we don’t have a service to perform sidewalk clearing. We need snow removal helpers. Please contact the church office if you are able to contribute to this important work during the snow season. Thanks for your willingness to serve!

Rev. Scott C. Schantzenbach Assistant to the Bishop for Stewardship, Generosity, and Excellence in Ministry
Office: 908-892-8299 [email protected]
Rev. Scott C. Schantzenbach has served in the Office of the Bishop since 2003. He shares responsibility for mission resourcing in the areas of stewardship, and transforming ministries, and currently directs the EMU program. In addition to these responsibilities he has served as an interim pastor among transitional congregations. He has written articles for the “Lutheran” magazine and served as a guest lecturer at the Lutheran Theological Seminaries in Philadelphia and Gettysburg, Virginia Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary and at ELCA Mission Developer Training venues. Pastor Schantzenbach believes the front-line of ministry is grounded in the congregation. He recently described his three-fold role as, “renewing hope, strengthening congregations, and exploring ministry pathways in a rapidly changing world.” Prior to assuming current responsibilities, he served the church as a parish pastor for 25 years, among congregations in Philadelphia, PA, and in Jersey City and Washington, NJ. Pastor Schantzenbach was ordained in 1978. He is a graduate of Moravian College and earned a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degree at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.
