By Harriet RosenbergThe meeting conducted at the
Dwight D. Eisenhower Club inDeer Park was packed with; in-formation via a question anddiscussion evening. Giving theanswers were: Legislator SydAskoff ; Councilman VincentManna ; Mr. Anthony Ceaser andClub President James Me-Donagh.
Mr. Manna stated that he hadno information pertaining to the500 acres of prime Pilgrim Stateproperty which is located on DeerPark land, but he did say that hewould like to see much of thisland used for recreation (aplanned community consisting ofan Industrial Park , GardenApartments and recreationfacilities for the people ofBabylon). He also said that therewasn't enough money at thepresent time to build a parkadjacent to Deer Park poolbecause of the loss of the BondIssue. There was a generaldiscussion afterwards , about thedesirability of an enclosed poolfor year round use and how thepeople of Deer Park could obtainsome. Mr. Ceaser suggested apool for Robert Frost Jr. HighSchool , which has ample land tohold same.
Mr. McDonagh discussed whatsteps could be taken to ease theburden of the Senior Citizens. Heasked for half-price bus fare andmovie admission. He stated thatmost movie houses are willing to
oblige the Citizens, but had mtbeen approached before, and fee;felt itfeit a town wide venturewould fee successful. Mr. Askoffgave i further informationregarding the matter. He saidthat the county was trying toadopt plans to help the Citizens;but that bus rates would be dif-ficult to reduce because they areInter-€6unty. and Tnter-ToWn ,and aft would ha ve to agree to beeffective. Mr. Askoff thendiscussed the widening of ComaeRoad, from Deer Park Ave. to theExpressway. He touched on theproposed new road running fromVeteran 's Highway through DeerPark (via Long Island Ave.) toHuntington , and stressed howimportant these roads are tothose who wanted them to showwhere the roads would extend to.Mr. Askoff also stated that therewas a new sewage bill inCongress and he had high hopesthat the bill would be passed. Itwould allow the Federal
Government to pay 60 per cent ofthe cost and he said that it wasthe best deal ever presented. Hesaid that the bill is approximatelyone year away and that thepeople should investigate the billthoroughly and get all the in-formation possible as it was toour benefit. The Eisenhower Clubmeetings will continuethroughout the summer and thepublic are invited to attend.
