VANGUARD™ PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE APPLICATION TESTING FOR OPTIMIZED POWER
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (March 7, 2017) – Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power offers
application-specific engine testing through its Global Power Application Centers. This
exclusive approach to engine development and integration maximizes power and
productivity for each application leading to a better performing piece of equipment for the
OEM and enhanced productivity for the contractor. Briggs & Stratton operates three
Power Application Centers globally with locations in the United States, Germany and
China. In addition to application testing, application engineers assist in selecting ideal
power sources for OEM equipment, support OEM product development and assist with
post-production troubleshooting.
Vanguard™ representatives will be at booth B7316 during CONEXPO-CON/AGG,
March 7-11, in Las Vegas, to discuss Power Application Center opportunities.
“Our Power Application Center testing is the most comprehensive in the industry and
plays an important role in Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power’s approach to providing
industry-leading service and support,” said Dennis Steinhardt, product support director,
Briggs & Stratton Engine Division. “By working directly with OEMs, before equipment
designs are finalized and before our engines have shipped, we’re able to ensure OEMs
deliver more dependable, user-friendly products that improve job site productivity.”
Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power’s approach to engine integration is a
comprehensive process that includes a variety of tests from heat and extreme cold to
fuel system and vibration testing. The objective is to ensure dependable power system
performance in customer applications, which results in meeting globally certified quality
standards, reduces warranty costs and increases user satisfaction. The process begins
with the Power Source Installation Review which analyzes how a power source is
applied and determines which comprehensive follow-up tests are required.
Heat testing introduces the equipment to temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit
while monitoring engine temperature, air/fuel rations and fuel evaporating pressure.
These tests help diagnose any factors at risk to compromise the engine performance in
high heat or enclosed engine compartment applications.
Just as critical to long-term performance and reliability is the cold weather test. A cold
test chamber capable of subjecting the engine and application to 20 degrees below zero
Fahrenheit (29 degrees below zero Celsius), helps predict and optimize cold-weather
starting and performance.
Fuel system testing examines the evaporative fuel system, electronic fuel injection,
gaseous fuel system, and carburetor and governor performance, regulation and speed
settings. Results allow the engine and fuel delivery system to be adjusted to improve fuel
efficiency, productivity and starting. Additionally, the PACs test all fuel systems to ensure
emission regulation compliance.
Vibration testing uses a Human Vibration Meter system to test hand-arm vibration levels
along with operational deflection shapes and vibration levels at contact points. That data
is then used to limit engine and equipment vibration which in turn reduces noise levels
and provides for a more comfortable and productive operator experience.
Additionally, the Power Application Centers play a major role in safety and compliance
by conducting ISO/ANSI reviews, EMC consultation and safety reviews.
“We frequently hear from OEMs that our testing and support helps elevate their
equipment to the highest levels of productivity,” said Matt Anderson, OEM sales
manager, Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power. “And by working with a wide array of
manufacturers our engineers develop in-depth knowledge of numerous commercial
applications, from landscape to construction, helping hone our designs to improve
productivity across all applications and OEMs.”
To maximize the effectiveness of the application testing process, in-depth collaboration
with OEMs is required. Each Power Application Center operates as a discrete, secure
facility with restricted access, even to Briggs & Stratton employees. All test results and
equipment designs are kept completely confidential.
